Recently I have been reading both Naruto and Fullmetal alchemist series and enjoying them. I want to know some good manga series that you people would recommend, I know there would be plenty of good series I would not have heard of.

Well when it comes to manga the two you said are 2 of the 4 I have in mind.
The two other are Fairy Tail and Bleach, well Bleach is getting more and more "meh" but it's on it's final arch now so then it should be over.
I also like 07 Ghost but the pace on that series is really slow and Soul Eater I think the manga is a bit confusing and so but the story it self is interesting, that's one case were I'd actually reccommend the anime (51 eps) instead.

I take it you want a long running series? Well despite that this manga isn't long running (12 volume) but I highly reccomend Death Note. Well if you want a long running series then I guess that would be Soul Eater.

I've only read/started reading 3 but I think they're good.

1.KissxSis
2.Omamori Himari
3.Rosario Vampire

They're all harem romance ecchi fantasies.

But if these aren't your style then go to MangaReader.com and use advanced search to choose your favourite categories.

Hope this helps.

Nausicca of the Valley of the Winds - basically Miyazaki's magnum opus
Vinland Saga - Game of Thrones with Vikings and as good as it sounds
Monster - Silence of The Lambs meets The Fugitive
Pluto - Astroboy for adults
20th Century Boys - A cross between the Watchmen and Heroes.

That should do it

I'm not an active manga reader, but there are a few I really liked.

Ranma 1/2. Even though it has its lows and runs out of steam at the end it's still hilarious and the insanity is just wonderful.

Hellsing, if you have a taste for absurdity, gore and pitch-black humor.

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Although it's based on the anime (and hasn't even finished yet, despite running for like 17 years) I consider it vastly superior in every sense. It gives more insight into the characters and the story doesn't feel so ridiculous. It also really captures the chokingly depressing atmosphere towards the end.

Berserk

This isn't just one of the best manga out there, it's one of the best stories of the 20th century, period. It can stand its own against both Lord of the Rings and Watchmen.

If you're in the mood for a merciless, blood soaked epic poem about demons and revenge, you can't do any better.

Seriously, go read this masterpiece.

Can you be more specific? Are you looking for shounen stuff similar to Naruto and FMA?

Oh, there are several I would recommend. Let's see...

- Silver Spoon: by the same author as Fullmetal Alchemist, Silver Spoon is a slice-of-life manga about a city boy coming to a farm college, and his struggles with trying to grasp what most other students on the school finds natural.

- Psyren: a very interesting action manga, with a story that is more complex than just "beat up the next bad guy", involving a number of people trying to stop the apocalypse.

- Rave Master: a really good adventure manga by Hiro Mashima, the same guy who's the author of Fairy Tail (which I can also recommend, by the way). It is your typical story of Good vs. Evil, but with a fair amount of twists and major villians who actually have reasons for what they do.

- Beelzebub: this is my favorite manga at the moment, containing a liberal mix of action, comedy and (recently) some hints at romance, and a lot of enjoyable characters. The story follows a rather unpleasant young man as he accidentaly picks up a baby on his way home. It soon turns out the baby is the Demon King's son, and by picking him up this young man has been chosen as his foster parent. And that is when things start to get weird...

- Green Blood: a very new manga, with only 11 chapters translated so far. It chronicles the tale of two brothers trying to survive in New York circa 1870, and the troubles the older brother runs into as he tries to hide his nature as a killer-for-hire from his younger brother. Not very much to say at the moment, except that it shows a lot of promise.

Also, I second both Ranma ½, Vinland Saga, and Bio-Meat: Nectar. And if you enjoy Ranma ½, I suggest you check out Urusei Yatsura, the authors previous work.

I'll be back if I can think of some more...

This maginificent man right here is absolutely correct: GO READ BERSERK! This cannot be stressed enough. Strong characters, excellent character development, and enough nightmare fuel you can poke a stick at. Hell, the Golden Age Arc itself is easily one of the greatest things ever created in the media and the series has been going strong ever since with only a few moments where it's slipped in quality.

Word of Warning though, the author updates this series essentially whenever the fuck he feels like it so he can avoid having a mental breakdown. So while this series is 95 flavors of epic all blended into one, do realise you have to be patient with it.

Not on topic, but does it get better as it progresses? I read the first 3-4 volumes and found it something between hilariously over the top and insultingly juvenile (the main protagonist is, like, a HUGE BADASS and he has a sword that's like 2 METERS LONG and he, like, swings it with ONE HAND and KILLS EVERYBODY!!!!), but nothing I would ever try to take seriously. It does seem somewhat interesting and I'd like to know if it's worth reading.

What makes the Golden Age arc so fucking brilliant is that you know how it's going to end before it even begins, yet it's still so engaging. It even tells the story with the knowledge that the audience is aware of the outcome, by showing you the Behelit, Nosferatu Zod, and the Skull Knight. The long slow build up to the ultimate hellish despair that is the ending of that arc is masterful.

[sub]Aaargh, I love talking about Berserk![/sub]

Well, if you don't like the first 4 volumes at all, then it's probably not for you.

Just for the record, Berserk was the first to have the "giant buster sword", and probably the only one to make a point with it. Everytime Guts pulls it out the general reaction from opponents and onlookers is 'WTF!!!'. It's supposed to indicate that Guts isn't just a normal dude, he's an insane rage monster that will stop at nothing to achieve victory. This all harkens back to "that event" from Guts' childhood, which I assumed you read.

Anyway, yes, it does get better. But if you found what happens in the first 4 volumes hilariously over the top and insultingly juvenile, then I don't recon you'll like the rest of the series that much either.
