While not a manga, a manwha, Breaker and its sequel Breaker the New Wave are good ones

They are a martial arts manwha and both the original and the sequel are great

Beyond that a lot of what I would name has already been tossed out by others in this thread

Battle Royale- It's more than just children killing each other. It's a story about the futile-ness of rebelling against a police state, and also a very sincere love story.

Depending on what kind of stuff you're into, I've got one you should look at. It's called Franken Furan (Fran).

Warning though, only read it if you can handle gore and EXTREMELY dark humor.

The basic premise is this: Fran is a sort of super-amazing teenage surgeon girl. So amazing, in fact, that her operations are nothing short of miracles... or slaps in the face of God. Depends on your perspective.

Each story usually begins with Fran being presented with some sort of opportunity to use her amazing talents. But... things never go quite right. Oh, the operations are successful... but the patients usually get MORE than they bargained for.

For example, in one story, she finds a girl who's just been gravely injured. She saves her life, but... well...

WARNING, SPOILED FOR "OH MY GOD"

So, yeah, if you looked at that, you've got a pretty good idea what this manga's about. Highly recommended, if you're into this sort of thing.
Just finished reading that. Definitely a series who's motto is "It Get Worse".

Try out Great Teacher Onizuka aka GTO. It's about a "former" delinquent who decides to be a teacher so he can hook up with high school girls. It falls apart immediately and hilariously. Suffers from cerebus syndrome near the end though, not bad just it's kinda sudden.

There's quite a few I would recommend everything from romance to action. Things like Suzuka, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Pet Shop of Horrors, Mirai Nikki, Mahou Negima Sensei, Love Hina, Cage of Eden, The World God Only Knows, Medaka Box, Denpa Kyoshi, Love Collage, Fairy Tail. The list goes on and on.

I'd recommend One Piece, but a bunch of the other Escapists have done that for me.

So instead I'll recommend Love Hina, and enjoyably funny harem series with great characters, excellent story, and enough good slapstick to make the Looney Tunes blush (in more ways than one).

In fact, I think the best description I can give Love Hina is 'The Simpsons meets Tenchi Muyo.'

(feel free to give out a better description if you can)

...Vinland Saga - Game of Thrones with Vikings and as good as it sounds...
Barciad summed up it up well. Only thing I can add is that, for reasons that escape me, the author did a damned good job on research - the story thus far has kept a fairly good grasp on ACTUAL Nordic culture for the viking time period. There are even some interesting cameos by actual famous viking characters if you keep an eye open (icing on the cake for viking buffs like me). Otherwise, good story, interesting premise, and an all around good read.

Hope that helps ^_^
Regarding the research, the author spent a month in Iceland studying the history and culture. Now, speaking as someone that did a module on Early Medieval History at University, I found the results to be spot on. Except for one big error.
Massive Spoilers warning.
In book 3, I believe, Askelad and Thorfinn, having rescued Canute from Thorkell, they seek to make for the border between Danelaw and The Kingdom of Wessex. This border was laid down in the Treaty of Chippenham in 878AD. This was an agreement between King Alfred The Great of Wessex and Guthrum of the Vikings. This effectively split the English lands in two between The Danes and the English. It ran diagonally from The Wirrell in the North-West to the Thames Estuary in the South East.
However, Danelaw was gradually overrun by King Alfred's successors during the 10th Century. By 954, York is retaken, thus creating a united English state under the control of The House of Wessex. Therefore, the dividing line between Wessex and Danelaw that Askelad sought to cross, no longer existed, and hadn't done for many years.
As for an actual dividing line between areas still under the control of Æthelred the Unready and those now ruled by Swyen Forkbeard, I could not say. Just that the line claimed by the author is an accidental anachronism.
Yet, like I said, the rest of the history has been spot on. Æthelred's massacres, the conflict between Christianity and the old pagan Norse religions, the murders of Æthelred and his son Edmund Ironside etc. Its been great.
