My main hope is that nature gets the job done right the first time.
I'm not sure I appreciate you wishing I was dead.

Anyway, I'd say our greatest accomplishment is the scientific method. Such a simple philosophy, but has done countless wonders for humankind.

Landing on the moon and taking a picture of our planet from it.

Nothing puts things in to perspective more than that picture while maintaining the perfect level of beauty and fear.

I don't think anything can match it. Maybe the deep space pictures... or art (music included).

Civilisation itself. It's one thing to achieve great feats, but it's another whole thing to unite millions of people in a world full of diversity.

Indoor Plumbing and Toilet tissue. Because in my humble opinion putting a man on the moons nothing if your still shiting in a hole in the ground and wiping your ass with leaves.

The fact that we somehow haven't killed each other off by now amazes me to no end.
I'll get around to it when there are no good threads to post in.

In terms of technology? Integrated circuitry.

In general? Agriculture, labor specialization, written language, the Scientific Method...I don't know, something like that.

Putting a Man on the Moon, no contest.
And given the growing ignorance (63% of America thinks Noah's ark actually happened, 53% dont believe in evolution, and 50% dont realize it takes the earth a year to go around the sun), it will probably be the greatest thing mankind ever does, we might be on the downhill slope.

There are so many great accomplishments that I can't decide... Maybe the extinction of a number of other species. x_x

Language.
/thread

If it wasn't for language, we wouldn't be anywhere near as advanced as we are now.
1) Is that really an accomplishment? Or a (bi?)product of evolution?
2) "If it wasn't for _______, we wouldn't be anywhere near as advanced as we are now."
The problem with this is that you can fill in many things here: opposible thumbs, eyes, agriculture, tools, etc
3) Unless you include the language of the universe (mathematics) I dont think I really can agree.
