the waiting system is so stupid, me and my friend can never get in a match, when we do it either disconnect us or says its an older version something like that, normally we have to wait 30 minutes, then when it gets to 1 it changes to 15 etc.
Use the server browser, you'll find a server there much quicker than you would queueing for it.

I bloody love it but the matchmaking system is so broken it makes me want to cry, also the manual servers don't seem to stick by the 'only 6 people in a team rule' which makes me think it will be too easy.

As I never bothered to touch the match making system as it didn't work for L4D2 I played with friends. It was great. It keeps a great game fresh.

I'm kind of pissed at valve to be honest. The ticket system/item system is broken. I and a bunch of other people are constantly reporting issues with it and valve isn't saying jack shit about it nor answering tickets. For those unaware in Man Up Mode you can essentially buy a "squad surplus ticket" which grants you and everyone else an extra item. Very handy for those hunting down the hats and weapons from MvM. However, the system more often than not refuses to accept the tickets. I personally have gone 3 games with the system refusing to reward me an extra item. This essentially makes the item useless and in my book I would chalk it up to fraud because they've basically sold me an item that doesn't work. And worse off is the times when you finish a map and you get no items at all. Congratulations you lost your ticket, spent time and effort to win, and you get nothing.

Then there is the ever fun, oh the item severs went kaput, you all get reverted to basic items on respawn. Oh what's that in man vs machine your upgrades are bound to your weapon? Sorry but you basically have to restart because if you were using a non basic weapon all your upgrades are gone.

Matchmaking is atrocious, if people leave your match the odds of you getting someone to fill in is obscenely low, I seriously waited 30 minutes for a single person to join our final wave on a map because 5 of us had surplus tickets, no luck.

Bot Medics are broken, period. When you get a pack of them and they basically transverse half the map to have the giant robot carry the bomb and jump into the pit while ubered it basically feels like you're being cheated because there is very little you can do about it.

Don't get me wrong I'm having a lot of fun when I actually get to play the thing and it works, I'm just frustrated that they launched it with so many bugs and haven't addressed them. If it was any other company I feel like people would throw it completely out the window.

Great fun, though there's still a lot of tweaks to be made. Like resetting upgrades, making some classes more useful and fixing bugs.

It's all SORTS of awesome. I love how I can generally do something silly (Attack Speed and Heal on Kill Eviction Notice) and still be productive. Seriously. Eviction Notice with maxed Attack Speed upgrade? It's SILLY.

It's brilliant fun but...

[HEADING=2]Good gods it's hard.[/HEADING]

It probably doesn't help that I played with total TF2 noobs so far, but still... Especially Rapid Fire Demomen give me nightmares. Even as a Sniper. Their range is just...insane.

But the rather broken matchmaking makes me sad.

No problem here, I rip through them as a Sniper. Some damage upgrades and I don't even need to pop their heads.

Well, I usually play one game a day because I don't like playing a set mode for too long. That's why I play the Snack Shack server; It's so random. From what I've played it's fun though.

I had some really good games with a sniper equipped with a huntsman(with penetrate, damage boost and sometimes bleed on contact this has been really effective for me) and jarate maxed out for regen and with slow is an absolute must. There are some rounds where I just end up throwing jarate constantly and letting the heavies and other damage dealing classes mop up my victims.

I have completed MANN UP in Coal Town, the Ctrl+Alt+Destruction mission. It was fucking hard, but it was worth it. Seriously it was amazingly hard and amazingly fun. It took 4 hours.

There are better wave survival games. Much better ones.
Also I was semi excited for red and blue teaming up but that was taken out.
I was told it was because the playtesters complained about constantly shooting each other but I have no idea if its true.

The Beginner maps are boring as because they are so easy but when you get in an advanced game with a group of people trying to beat it and it's tense as it is so much fun!

However it seems pretty buggy still where I have had times where I insta-spawn as any class and other times when I lose my upgrades (and therefore credits). I have also unlocked like 10 achievements without actually having achieved them...

I seem to get more drops from MvM than in regular TF2 but overall I think regular TF2 is more fun and will last longer (unless they keep mixing things up in MvM by adding new maps, gametypes and/or enemies etc.)

It's fun, replayable, you never go through the same strategies and power-ups, very centered around teamwork, mildly frustrating compared to its difficulty.

I don't like the limitation and weaknesses of certain classes and weapons, and the inability to remove powerups. Unless you have class X, you aren't going to win; if class Y doesn't have weapon A equipped, they're pissing in the wind; if class Z thinks about buying upgrade A, they're wasting money. Buy health on kill, more ammo, bigger clip sizes, more damage, faster reload on ONLY your primary weapon. Never upgrade your melee unless you're a Scout using the Sandman or Wrap Assassin. Demoknights, fat Scout, Sniper in general, Axetinguisher Pyro, Gunslinger Engineer aren't worth shit and will die quickly. If you start the game as this class, you have to stay that class, because you can't remove your $1500 worth of upgrades for the wave is too beefy for a Pyro.

But yeah. Lots of fun. Thought I bet you in a few weeks, I'll be back to almost 24/7 CP maps.
Axstinguisher Pyro is useless? REALLY? +40% movement speed, +40% Melee attack speed, +75% resistant to blast/bullet/fire/crit damage. With this your charging around the map hacking everything up with constant crits (all it takes is a little degreaser puff). Also, because your using the axe as your primary source of damage instead of the flamethrower, that leaves you with plenty of ammo to airblast the bomb carrier down a pit or off a bridge.

But, yeah, I really love this new gamemode. There are a couple of things that make me sad however. Most people seem to completely neglect the resistances. A heavy with 75% bullet resistance and a medic is basically invincible vs other heavy bots.

Also, teams that completely flip their shit when a player picks sniper at the start. yes, Sniper does start off pretty crap. But upgrade the zoomed charge speed, the damage and explosive headshots and also piss recharge rate. You have someone who is capable of inflicting huge damage (over 1000 damage in one shot) and enables the entire team to almost constantly inflict mini-crits due to rapidly recharging piss.

Playing sniper really is a lot of fun on MvM. Its just a pain because people auto-assume its useless and will try to kick you for picking it and refusing to change class. (I would change class if the team really couldn't get past the first wave after a few attempts)

Gee, was that a rant? I dunno...

tl;dr I really really like this gamemode.

This.
I've always hated it when a game with endless possibilities starts restricting the player, and the MvM upgrade system is a particularly bad example. They really need to patch in some sort of respec system. And/or make the upgrades cheaper - because where is the fun in being "fully" upgraded for the last 2 minutes of the final wave?
I mean, trying out each class, maybe multiple loadouts, is fun I guess, but then you run into the danger of playing - and being stuck with - the "wrong" class.

The other day I was on coaltown, Soldier, doing damage, and we kept losing. One guy was whining we needed more engis, but it was the final wave, what good is switching to Engi now? I tried for one attempt, but that meant we lost a well-upgraded Soldier.

At the very least, MvM needs a respec option. For like 50 monies. Any more expensive than that and you lose too much money that needs to go into upgrades.

I'm liking it a lot. I'm trying to complete a tour of duty in Mann Up mode, so far I completed the basic machine massacre mode for all current maps and need to get started on endurance.

But. It is kinda sorta insanely fucking hard at times, and Mann Up is a bit too much to expect for random pubs sometimes. Although I have had the good luck of having some pretty great teams for 2 of the 3 maps. Which took around 1 hour to beat, each. The last Mann Up game I played yesterday in Mannworks was brutal, and my team was mostly shit. In the end, the game went on for over 2 hours after almost all my original team members quit, and were replaced with better more competent players.

Everyone is still developing tactics and optimal upgrade builds since the mode is still new. But it seems to me that every single class is useful in MvM, even on advanced difficulties. The giant robots are a goddamn nightmare sometimes....

I agree. There are times when switching classes is a necessity to greatly improve your odds for success. It's pretty frustrating to get late in the game since the start, repeatedly failing the final wave and not having any ability to refund any upgrade you've purchased in earlier waves is a bit harsh and frustrating.

The mode is pretty awesome, and yes there are better horde modes out there, but I am quite surprised by how good this mode is regardless, it's much better than I thought it could be. But it does need some work.

I do want my botkiller weapon though... I underestimated how long some of these games could possibly carry on. It might take me all week to finish up the rest of the maps on Mann Up. Gah.

It's pretty tough. Considering as I have about much skill in Team Fortress 2 as your mother, I'm finding it a competent challenge. But that ay be because I was matched into one of the hardest missions on my first round.

Edit: The lack of usefulness of the Demoknight makes me sad.

I have a lot of fun with it whenever I can finally get into a game. Even our user group seems to have dried up a bit.
Regardless, I really have a fun time playing it and has quickly become one of my favorite game modes alongside Prophunt, Payload Race and VS. Saxton Hale. Been meaning to try one of the advanced mission maps but it's hard to find a team that'll stay on without ragequitting after losing a couple of times.

I'm just wondering: What is your opinion on Mann VS Machine? Me, I find it's fun to blow my way through armies of robots with my rocket launcher, or rip them to shreds with my mini-gun.
My friends and I use a private server to play it and we still get server crashes occasionally. In fact I have never actually completed a single level because we can never get through all of the rounds before we lose, server crashes, or the server decides to randomly change levels because we suck so bad. If you didn't have to wait forever to get into the official servers, I would say Mann Vs Machine is awesome, but honestly I think it's a huge letdown. The game mode is fun, but the matchmaking system sucks.
