March Mayhem 2013?

Every year since I've been here, the Escapist has had March Mayhem, a bracket-style contest between game developers. Most years, Valve has won with Bioware taking second every single time.

Anyway, where is March Mayhem 2013? I always loved March Mayhem and I've been looking forward to it for a while, but it's now March and there's no sign of it anywhere. Has there been any official word that it's been cancelled? Or is it still coming?

I figured I should make a thread so there can be somewhere for people who, like me, are wondering and can look rather than bothering the admins with e-mails.

Also, if it's a manpower issue, I'd be willing to help organize a March Mayhem for this year, even if it is a little late. I'm sure there are others who'd help.

For the sake of discussion, do you guys miss March Mayhem? What are your fondest memories? Are you okay with seeing it go?

(If this has been brought up, I'm a bad searcher and I'm sorry and I will commit seppuku.)

It's not happening this year. So proclaims Susan in <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.402358.16604167>this post.

Thank you very much!

Maybe we can bring it back next year. I always assumed it brought a lot of traffic to the site and I like seeing the Escapist grow.

I was never a huge fan of the whole affair. It had this knack for attracting new, more asshole-ish people to the site to perpetuate the flamewars surrounding the event. The worst part... some of them stuck around D:

Yeah they have decided not to do it anymore. Probably for the best really, the forums always got needlessly heated and fanboyish over the whole thing.

The flamewars were the whole reason I liked the event. So much fun to watch.

Also, a March Mayhem a few years back got me into this site, so I'm disappointed to see it go for nostalgic reasons too. My favourite year was the one where Zynga hilariously rampaged through a million different devs before finally crashing headlong into Valve and exploding into the biggest thread I've ever seen on the Escapist, with something like 25,000 votes per side. By the gods, there were so many Horatio Caine memes. So many Last Stand parody posts taking famous speeches (fictional or real) and adapting them to the situation. And lo, did Valve smite the upstart Zynga demon, and there was much rejoicing.

No, I didn't really miss it. The results were extremely predictable. Either one of the Big Three would win(Bethesda, Bioware or Valve), and another of those would come second, or the 'dark horse' of that year(e.g. Zynga, Mojang) would end up winning or coming second, with one of the Big Three ahead or behind it. Any other developer would get obliterated by one of those without even the slightest chance.

I think it would be an interesting competition if those companies were excluded. You might say that isn't fair but it would make it a hell of a lot more exciting for me.

I'm gonna miss it. For all the complaining about the flamewars over it, we've still got flamewars either way, and at least the March Mayhem ones weren't the same damn topics all the time

March Mayhem isn't happening this year, and the 'Pist is better for it.
It takes over the forums, makes everyone angry, and has never been won by a good developer.
We are richer for having lost it.

Considering how heated the forums have been over the last few months, it probably is for the best that they didn't do it this year. Not that I miss it, but still.

I'm actually kinda glad it's not coming back.

It got really old really fast watching people ***** about what game won and which game lost each round. And then there's the ultimate winner. Dear God that was a nightmare for about a week or so of complaining.

It was fun the first time I did it, but last year was not pretty or even fun. :/

I definitely loaded up this website for the first time in roughly a year.

Unfortunate that March Mayhem isn't happening :(

I didn't mourn its loss but I did notice it's absence. I'm sure that the staff had their reasons for not arranging it this year. Maybe they're using the time that was spent working on MM on the expo instead. For me that's unfortunate because it is very, very unlikely I would ever get a chance to actually attend an Escapist Expo in the near foreseeable future. However, for the people going, I think the expo deserves every hour of thought that goes into it.

Sounds so epic. I was there to see it but suddenly what was once "Fuck yeah, Valve" now became "The most glorious battle to exist in the gaming world"
