This was pretty much guaranteed to happen, considering the reaction to her performance in the film.
As to whether it's a good idea...ehhh. I didn't think
Suicide Squad was a good idea, but WB greenlit that anyway.
A Gotham City Sirens film would be fucking great, mind you. That needs to happen.

But its a perpetual 'the edge' machine, because the edge is always one step away. No matter how far you go, you never reach it. That's why South Park and Family Guy are struggling. Used to be fart jokes and Star Wars cutaway gags. Now its literal rape jokes and dogs fucking teenagers.
South Park is a bad example. They've done really well at developing their humour over...twenty seasons? Jesus, I'm old.
The point is, they didn't do what Family Guy did and just spiral into a basin of increasing shock value. They kept things funny, and the show's actually gotten
better the past few years.
I don't think the 90s Batman cartoon was at all edgy anyway. It was hewing closely to the tone of the Burton films, and it was also aimed primarily at children. And as for Harley Quinn's costume...ehhh? I didn't like the New 52 redesign, but it also didn't cause me to enter a berserk fugue. And her solo series was okay, so I forgave them.

I don't know, people still invoke the performance of Heath Ledger's Joker as the "GREATEST ACTING PERFORMANCE IN EXISTANCE!!!"
I swear people who put that guy's performance on a pedestal as if they have never seen a movie or acting before in their lives.
He did a really, really,
really good job, mind.
It's less "OMG I've never seen acting like this before!" and more "OMG I've never seen acting like this before
in a superhero film!"
