This was pretty much guaranteed to happen, considering the reaction to her performance in the film.

As to whether it's a good idea...ehhh. I didn't think Suicide Squad was a good idea, but WB greenlit that anyway.

A Gotham City Sirens film would be fucking great, mind you. That needs to happen.

South Park is a bad example. They've done really well at developing their humour over...twenty seasons? Jesus, I'm old.

The point is, they didn't do what Family Guy did and just spiral into a basin of increasing shock value. They kept things funny, and the show's actually gotten better the past few years.

I don't think the 90s Batman cartoon was at all edgy anyway. It was hewing closely to the tone of the Burton films, and it was also aimed primarily at children. And as for Harley Quinn's costume...ehhh? I didn't like the New 52 redesign, but it also didn't cause me to enter a berserk fugue. And her solo series was okay, so I forgave them.

I don't know, people still invoke the performance of Heath Ledger's Joker as the "GREATEST ACTING PERFORMANCE IN EXISTANCE!!!"

I swear people who put that guy's performance on a pedestal as if they have never seen a movie or acting before in their lives.
He did a really, really, really good job, mind.

It's less "OMG I've never seen acting like this before!" and more "OMG I've never seen acting like this before in a superhero film!"

That is because The Dark Knight is barely a superhero film.

I mean when I re-watched it I felt like it was less Superhero and more Crime/Drama/Thriller. Especially the moments where you DON'T see Batman.

As to the Performance itself....eh just one of many good acting performances I have already scene:

Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction
Godfather
Most Scorsese films with Robert De Niro.
There Will Be Blood
No Country for Old Men.

Those are the movies off the top of my head.

Just replace the Joker.

I want to say also add Poison Ivy...but I worry half the movie will just be them two doing everything just short having sex with each other. For over an hour.

I actually thought the exact same thing when it came out. What with the focus on bank heists and car chases, it's basically a Heat-style crime drama...but with Batman.

Ledger still knocked it out of the park, though. It was an exceptional performance no matter which way you cut it.

Hey, they did it in the cartoon. [http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/harely_and_ivy_morning_after.jpg]

(Not for an hour, though.)

I know its a good performance. But I am just saying that people tend to put his performance on such a high pedestal that he is the be all, end all of acting performances. Despite the examples I have already given. But of course it also applies to the fact that Batman is egregiously overrated

No one in the millions is gonna watch There Will Be Blood to see Daniel Day Lewis' increadible performance:

damn it, just throw in her in with Catwoman, Poison Ivy and a Reformed Riddler trying to track them all down, give us Gotham City Sirens. I'd be so down.

I mean, I guess she was alright in Suicide Squad but I'm not sure how you get an entire movie out of a character like that.
Idk I have some reservations but I could see a good movie based off her weird unhealthy relationship with the joker, and maybe the plot from that episode of BTAS where she actually captures and almost kills batman, only for the joker to stop her because HE wants to be the one to do it (plus she had to explain the joke!)

Maybe with some "Harley's Day Out" thrown in there. That's a good Harley focused episode as well
Movie Harley/Joker don't have that abusive relationship, however unfortunate... But Batman also kills people.

I for one second (or third, or fourth, I really lost count at this point) that the Harley Quinn movie should be an origin story for a Gotham City Sirens series. Catwoman, Harley and Poison Ivy do have an interesting dynamic that both involves a healthy (or healthier) relationship growing out of what are very damaged people along with enough humor and action to please general audiences. Kind of a "Guardians of the Galaxy meets Charlie's Angels" type of flick. I would pay good money to watch them argue about whose ex was the worst; Batman (Catwoman), the Joker (Harley) or Floronic Man (Ivy). Granted it is hard to top the Joker but Floronic Man literally used Ivy as a guinea pig and Batman routinely tries to throw Selina in jail...
This.

But we need the Reformed Riddler, he was the BEST PART of GCS in my opinion.

DC has always treated their women like street walkers. Hell, the Animated Series comics has Bruce banging Barbara and fathering her child while she's engaged to Dick.
The 90s grunge metal OH THE EDGE mentality really fucked with comics and now they don't know any better than to simply keep making everything and everyone edgy and in-yo-face!
That happened in the comics not the cartoon.

If DC treated all its women like streetwalkers Starfire, Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl etc wouldn't have so many female fans.

Er, didn't New 52 lose Starfire a great number of her female fans for that reason?

they don't have that relationship now, but the Joker could wake up tomorrow and be tired of Harley with little to no reason (isnt that the plot of Sirens?)

even in the cartoons and comics, they had their honeymoon period before falling into their iconic roles so there's still a chance.
I mean I don't see that with this Joker... He seems a little too.... Twilight Edward for my tastes. I get the feeling he genuinely loves her in his own twisted way.

Ya gotta keep in mind, he's less a pyschopathic clown in this one and more like the protagonists of Saints Row. He's an offbeat gangster.

New 52 Starfire got the shitty end of the reboot stick in that regard, in that her writer, her artist, and whoever was supposed to be keeping an eye on them apparently thought that this darling [http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/teentitans/images/3/3b/Thumb-starfire2.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20131019013024] ought to look more like this [http://womenwriteaboutcomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/tumblr_inline_mjzdi1ruNo1qz4rgp.png], or else we wouldn't pay any attention to her.

Reboots like the New 52 involve a lot of redesigns and new ideas being booted around. This can be a good thing; Wonder Woman and Aquaman came out fresh and interesting. It can also be a bad thing, in that a couple of amateurs can slip something goddamn ridiculous under the radar without anyone stopping them.

She looks better now [http://media.dcentertainment.com/sites/default/files/GalleryComics_1920x1080_20150610_STARF_Cv1_55709245736d96.35054944.jpg].

I just think with something like Batman is shouldn't be a parody of itself.

Sadly I feel this movie will be so successful that its gonna end up replacing the actual DC movies.

Freakin Merchindise driven industry :p
The... Lego Batman Movie. Is this a thing? Is this gonna be a thing? Are you serious? Not just some gag?

That's the problem with the Lego Movie as a concept - anyone with a box of Legos and a camera can clobber together some kind of hoax for shits and giggles - but this is good enough to actually look legit!

Freaking hilarious too. 'I thought I was being sarcastic!'

Look. Why shouldn't this sort of thing replace the main DC line of movies? At least for a while? This 2 1/2 minute trailer is the best work of parody I've seen since The Naked Gun 2 1/2! The somewhat... questionable vibe between Batman and Robin is being blatantly mocked six ways from Sunday, yet there is also genuine depth to the characters - and both of these things are abundantly clear even from the few short clips presented here!

Seriously! Anyone who can lampoon Batman this perfectly could probably do the same with other DC franchises - and once this sort of thing becomes the accepted norm, the 'darker and edgier' virus could be released again, and mature the DC universe back into something closer to Tim Burton's take on Batman!

Yeah. Whatever else may be said about those movies, the Joker didn't have 'Damaged' tattoed on his forehead.

AH HA HA HA HA HA :D

This is mature? This is just kids stuff and the only guys that want to watch it are Man-Children like Moviebob.

I am not 10 years old anymore, I don't buy and play with Lego anymore. Besides Lego as a toy imo sucks, I rather have an action figure of Batman than a Batman themed Lego Set. Its all just glorifyed statues.

That scene with the kid playing with his father's Lego set and the father scolding him treating the things as playable toys, the father is right. Legos are just build your own statues. They are not to be played like action figures.

In the end I hate that DC movies now have to resort to Parody to be viable while Marvel at least gets to show the real Superhero deal.

It's not like we can't have both.

In fact, I'm calling it right now: we're going to have both. Because nothing short of Ben Affleck dying in the next four years is going to stop WB from producing another Batman movie.

Eh, sure, but then you seem to be in the majority. Mind you, I've always thought Black Canary or Huntress were pretty cool.

First, Spoilers for the Lego Movie. Cover it with a Spoiler Tag.
Second, Why so Serious? Relax a little. Like you said in the other Thread, don't be so salty about the whole thing.
Third, I am one of the guys I want to watch it because If the trailer can make me smile even a little with its silliness, then it have my aproval to transform me to a man-child and watch it without care about the other DC movies because they doing their own thing.
