Well... Cruel, violent scum like this certainly aren't going to improve the marine's reputation. It's a bloody shame, it is. It doesn't matter how many actual professionals there is that does their damnest to do a good job, there will always be some Cro-Magnon ready to demolish all they've tried to achieve in seconds.

However, it's the military, and for all the faults and all the scum that's made its way in, it's a functioning institution, and I'd be surprised if there isn't some sort of disciplinary actions down the line for these men, if not an outright court-martial.

Furthermore, it tarnishes the reputation of their comrades. They will probably not be happy to be associated with such filth.

Hmm... Perspective-time. It's really an indication that we live in somewhat enlightened times when the violation of a slain enemy's remains is considered abominable. It's a sign of hope in this horrid mess, at least.

EDIT: Which brings me to the Taliban. They do far, far worse, yes. They're scum, as well. But if anything, that is what makes the professional fighting forces opposing them all the better, they don't need to resort to bronze-age cruelty, and they at least try not to. At least the west asks something more of their warriors.

Couldn't care less. Deficate on them too for good measure. Have you seen what the locals do to the corpses of marines? Now thats barbaric. When you allow your children to pull them to pieces and batter them with sticks and stones all while chanting "Allah Akbhar".
Not sure if serious...

One of these things is a professional soldier.

The other is a civillian who probably doesn't know how to read and write and only knows about the current political situation through propoganda.

One of these things should be held to a higher standard than the other.

Can you guess which one?

that sort of shit is totally uncalled for. it should hit the news soon. i just sent the link to a few news services.

what these idiots dont understand is that this single act is going to put the whole muslim world into an uproar and there will be MORE attacks and violence on coalition troops because of it. people will die because of their actions
Your afraid the media frenzy it will cause will put the muslim world in uproar and cause an increase in attacks, so why link it to the news services yourself? people will die because of your actions
You really think he's the only person who sent that to the news? Hell, do you really think that the taliban wouldn't know about this already? Its more common than we apparently think, they just usually don't film it. Silly buggers, glad i'd only ever get put in the techie role if I ever joined the army, with my qualifications. Hopefully i'd meet less idiots like this.

Considering the stuff we've seen some of them do over the years, up to and including knowlignly ignoring Geneva Conventions, I'm not all that surprised.

More saddened than anything really.

And it ought to say something of the rep US soldiers have out in the world, that my friends' first reaction to this was "USA Marines, dude. Did you expect anything else?"

I did 4 years in the Marines and you know what I found out in that span of time?

Marines are mostly scum. A good number of them are the exact opposite of the sort of people the GP (General Population) think would join up. Of course there are a few decent people here and there as well (as with any facet of society, really), but all things considered, the majority of people I met during my time in the corps were not the greatest.

I guess that's just my long-winded way of saying that I'm not surprised by this video. I've seen stuff just as bad in person, honestly.
I've recently also lost my respect with the marines as well.

Some guy on Facebook told friends and family of a kid who got shot and killed at the house across from mine to "Grow the fuck up" and to summarize the rest of it, he asked when was the last time people had picked up a newspaper and worried about a dead marine. Literally hours after it happened.

It wouldn't have been that bad until (from last count) 14 of his marine buddies started backing him up and wondering when it was a crime to have a pair of balls. I lost a lot of respect for the marines.

But I'm glad that there's people like you with a level head in there.

OT: It's things like this where you'd think "Hey, are we really being the good guys right now?"

Every since I decided that I was gonna join up, I've been hit by a barrage of questionable acts by the military.

You know in there defense they have been fighting these guys for months on end. At this point both parties have a supreme hatred of each other and the other side would most likely do the same thing to their bodies. It was their little pick me up. A morale victory for them. They are treating them with the same respect their bodies would be treated with.

When we're condemning a country for their actions to the point of war, we can't just turn around and start acting like them.

Hey now, I'm no longer in the Corps. I did my four, took my honorable discharge and got the hell outa' dodge.

But yeah, if you're joining the military, you pretty much have to accept that we haven't been the "good guys" ever since we've had a presence in 108 countries or so, poking our nose everywhere it doesn't belong. You'd think we would help our economy AND the way the world views us by say, I don't know, getting rid of most of the military installations we have around the world. Ones we don't even need.

But no, that makes too much sense.

We think harder, not smarter!

It's funny because you are acting as if this were a comparison between a Human and a Dog.

You know, call me crazy, but I always figured that it should go without saying that desecrating a corpse is a bad thing, I don't see how being able to read and write would teach one that. Especially since soldiers are always the most intelligent people around and the US totally isn't spoon fed propaganda.
What I mean, is that a civillian who lives in a warzone shouldn't be held to the same standards as a professional soldier.

Anyone who desecrates a corpse is a twat, but a soldier is more of a twat for doing so.

Why?
Well these particular soldiers are supposed to be on peacekeeping mission correct?

As are most soldiers these days. While on manouvers, you represent your country and have a certain professional standard you must adhere to.

Pissing on a corpse isn't professional and it doesn't exactly send a great message to the people you're supposedly protecting.

I hope that answers your question.

The Marines, the greatest military corp in America's history. Enjoy your humanitarian backlash over this.

This. It would almost be like bombing a country because its regime was violently cracking down democratically-minded protesters, then turning round and doing the same thing to your own citizens...

...

OH WAIT :/

This makes them as bad as the terrorists. If you have anything less than total horror and disgust with this being done by your country or your countries allies or anyone for that matter then you are inhuman.

In any war it doesnt matter if you are righteous or not you do not behave like this it is indefensible.

Oh and if you are making jokes about the subject then youre as good as supporting the act.

Hey, to be honest, I'm a pretty sore winner, and if I had shot and killed a guy who was less than 10 minutes ago shooting at me and my buddies, I would probably be doing a little pissing on him too. Or, were I still in combat, maybe I'd just crouch over his body a few times. (See kids, this is why you don't let a gamer go to war.)
