I'll answer that question for you, I'm completely ashamed of what I saw in that video. I've been lurking on this site for a while, but nothing has compelled me to actually join in on any discussions until now. I almost don't want to admit it due to how the Military is percieved on this site (you all know what I'm referring to), but I am a former Marine myself. No, I'm not one of the Marines in this video or any of the others anyone might be thinking of either, I did my job and got out honorably.
Now, pertaining to the video, it's obvious that these guys are Infantry, which doesn't represent the entirety of the Marine Corps. Every Marine may be a Rifleman, but not every Marine is a Grunt. I wasn't, and I'm not ashamed to admit it (to the Grunts who read this, yes it means I'm a POG). Even though I shouldn't have to clarify what my job was, in order to eliminate confusion, I was a Motor Transport Mechanic. Even with these guys being grunts, it was say, less that 10 Marines participating. Unless someone can recognise faces or read nametags in this video, I doubt anyone in the clip will be charged with anything. If any of them do get identified, it'll most likely be a slap on the wrist. While this IS unprofessional, I'm not convinced that it's technically desecration. It's urine, it evaporates and the corpses can't feel it. If they didn't film it, then after an hour went by, know one would know it even happened at all.
I don't condone what they did, but I realise that this stuff has been going on since the first caveman shat on the face of a rival tribesman who looked at him funny (after beating it in with a rock). Killing them is one thing, what we do is a necessary evil, I'd have done it myself had I been there. That said, once theyre dead they're dead, box them up and send them on their way. Funny thing is, I bet this won't get anywhere near as big of an issue as the puppy throwing vid.
Edit: hmm, this was supposed to be a reply to Grouchy Imp, but for some reason it didn't come out that way. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now.
