I'm sure you can always contact customer service and get that fixed? It would be silly to think they would not. They know for sure that servers are going haywire.
Emailed them Friday, but I've not gotten a response yet. I'll wait another day or so until I send another one just in case. But we'll see.

I wouldn't worry. It wouldn't surprise me if they had a huge backlog of emails and calls. Nintendo services aren't notorious for being total trash though, so you should be fine.

First of all, love the avatar.

Second, I don't accuse Mario of stagnating, I accuse Nintendo of stagnating. Constantly pumping out the same handful of franchises.

Mario is just the prime target, it's he gets dropped into so many things! He sells games, it doesn't matter what game it is, put a Mario skin in it and it will sell.
Here's the problem with that line of thought. You assume the games sell just because Mario's in it. The games don't sell because of the chubby plumber. The games sell because of Mario and all of his friends, relatives, enemies, love interests, various items/tools and locations. That's right, somewhere along the line Mario's World became an established universe. I'm not quite sure when it happened but it did. Mario's world is HUGE. The amount of characters in Mario's world is staggering. Almost everybody has their favorite Mario character and 9/10 times it's probably not Mario. Some of his friends/enemies even have their own games. Donkey Kong, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario all with mostly different gameplay mechanics. Hell, there's even Mario fan fiction. Go figure.

The problem comparing Mario to COD is that COD isn't an established universe. Well, maybe the Modern Warfare series, but that's a stretch. You're better off comparing it to other established universes. I skipped Nintendo's Wii era however I did recently pick up a Wii U a few months ago. I have been enjoying it so far and there is a lot more to this little box than what I've heard on forums or message boards.

Do I agree that Nintendo needs new IP's? Of course it does. But getting rid of Mario and his world is the wrong thing to do. However I do wish there was a Bowser game where Mario wasn't his enemy. Maybe a civil war or revolt setup in Bowser's army. Bowser Jr. stages a coup with majority of Bowser's Army and it's up to Bowser and his koopalings to restore order.

OT; Good for Nintendo. They did the right thing by offering a free game with the purchase as well. A decent E3 reveal will do wonders at helping the Wii U. Fingers crossed for a new IP.

Hopefully this means the economy is rebounding.
The economy has actually been doing fine if you look at how it was compared to the launch of last gen, and in 2008. No one will report on that though, because professional journalism is like game journalism in that only bad things and doom and gloom will get ratings/clicks.

That's because Luigi is winning all the races.

They thought the Year of Luigi was over.
They thought wrong.

Haha, I love how crazy Luigi has become a meme from this.

It's like Nintendo accidentally channeled Doomsday Arcade:

"For years!
For Years.
Mario's the better player
Mario's the better mascot
Mario's the better brother
Well I'm the better fucking plumber"

Actually that I never understood either because China Just legalized consoles. If the big three play their cards right they should make boku bucks out there.

It won't change anything, even though China has "legalized" consoles. The games have to go through the government's review board, in which if it doesn't meet the guidelines, it won't be available. Then there's the cultural and political hatred of Japanese companies by China, especially within the last couple of months.

Finally, consoles can, and always have been, available in Hong Kong for purchase at any time, which is why in Asia there are translations to Chinese and they are sold there. Once China lifted the ban people seemed to think that suddenly there was a giant, untapped market consoles had, when in reality it'll just change probably at least 1 million units for all the consoles because you could get the consoles from Hong Kong anyway.

well, didn't take this thread long to get derailed. Seriously, what is UP with this obsession of this of trying to rain on people's parades and using the "opinions" or "we can't always be positive" defense? With how some people act you'd think that Nintendo killed their mother or something.

Anyway, hopefully getting back on topic, it'll be interesting to see how this goes over the summer. Basically selling at about 20% of the install base in the first few days (though not counting hardware bundles) gives an idea of where the game. Plus, the thing people keep forgetting about Nintendo is that their titles are evergreen unlike a lot of companies who treat their new release as a "we need to sell gobs in a month or we're done." I wouldn't be surprised at a sales spike for titles like NSMBU or Super Mario 3D World down the line. It's just how Nintendo titles work.

Down the line they could be giving away 3D World with the purchase of a new game, NSMBU was available for free with this game.

So uh, do all these free games boost sales of the respective game?

Well, it looks better than most other Wii U games, but I still don't care much for it. I don't see it as an improvement over everything like so many believe (though a shit ton better the MK Wii), so I'm still waiting for Nintendo to WoW me.

That is a lot of copies in just 4 days though, but what else would you get the Wii U for? I read they sold up to 4 million consoles last time, probably more now, so I'm expecting it to get up to 3 million at least.
