So I just did Rainbow Road for the first time. Hooooly shit it's beautiful. The tracks in this game are fabulous. What do you think of the new wonderous Rainbow Road?

Guffe has created a group called Wii U online multiplayer for us WiiUsers to get together in. Should totally join. Let's see who has the best!

I love the space station approach they took with Rainbow Road this time around. The track is freakin' gorgeous and the length is perfect. SNES Rainbow Road still holds a special place in my heart as my favorite RR but this one takes a close second.

I also want to mention the new Bowser's Castle. This is by far my favorite out of the new tracks. I got goosebumps the first time I raced on this track 150cc. When the track splits, and there's that giant flaming bowser punching either side of the track, creating a ripple effect that you're able to trick off of to get that edge. So intense, especially when you have other racers right on your tail.

Is is the same we saw in the trailer for MK8? If so then it's so fucking good. Also I really hope they release the soundtrack for the game instead of making it Japan only like they did for SM3DW.

That's basically par for the course. Your average American just isn't interested enough in soundtracks to make it worth localizing them, and those that are got used to just importing.

Is MK8 worth buying a WiiU for? I think the only game I really ever played on my Wii was MK Wii because it was just a blast to play.
I've been playing for the past 2-3 hours (whilst simultaneously trying to claim my free game, but it looks like club nintendo decided to crash and burn), and its SO good.

The multiplayer servers are pretty stable; I've only had my connection dropped twice, but I think that has more to do with my shit internet than anything else. The game is pretty intuitive from the moment you pick it up, so you don't have to worry about a steep learning curve.

Honestly, it bears a lot in resemblance to Mario Kart Wii, plus the game is also compatible with the wii mote and the wii mote wheel thing (the mario kart 8 bundle actually comes with both the gamepad and a wiimote/wiiwheel attachment) so if that's how you played MKWii then you won't be disappointed.

In short, if you enjoyed Mario Kart Wii, then you should enjoy Mario Kart 8. Is it worth 300+ US dollars though? I'm not sure.

Honestly, I don't like it. I find the course is honestly too short, and I don't like the music for it either really. Not to mention I'm about to rage quit because of f*cking Toadette just appearing out of nowhere and hitting me at the last second. At first I thought it was a coincidence, but she's always either right behind me or in front of me in every race I've done and it's seriously getting annoying.

It looked nice. Good music. Decent length. Challenging, but in a good way. Overall, a solid track. But it's overshadowed by the updated N64 version.

I'm not a fan, It's nice and for anyone that's seen TBFP, No ginger seeking chain chomps ;p.

Really tho I remember Rainbow road being THE hardest course in any of the mario karts, this felt like a tech demo, I think it was evil with the big 8 at the top.

Over all the game is great, I know I hate all the nintendoomed crap to but kinda feels like this might be the last Mario Kart with nintendo's 1 a system policy.

It is good, but I don't really consider it a "rainbow road" because it is a fucking space station.

But it is still great. Aside from the terrible, TERRIBLE item system, this Mario Kart is wonderful.

Looks like someone didn't sacrifice enough souls to the hax Gods yet.

I know it's painful to do. But trust me, it's oh so worth it in the end.

(Besides there was one time on the Wii Mario kart where every race I joined just before I hit the finish line on the final lap I got hit by 2 shell varieties and rammed to the side of the road by douche bag COM's)

Well her rubber band AI is damn terrible. This is giving me Double Dash flashbacks because she did the same damn thing to me in that game too on Mirror Mode...
Also, the items are screwy in this game I think. I should have recorded the last race I did on my Elgato because for the entire last lap on Yoshi Valley I had ten coins, only to get a single coin in the items 3 times in a row...

You think that's bad, two matches in a row I wasn't allowed to place first. One race I was smashed by two blue shells, one right after another not far from the finish line, and not long after that , BOOM lighting bolt! You lose! Then maybe an hour ago I got nailed by FOUR, count them FOUR! red shells, one right after another. I went from leading by a sizeable margin to dead last. Luckily it was only on the second lap and I managed to place first due to it being only 50cc but still. What in the fuck!?

OT: I love the new Rainbow Road, It's pretty sweet even compared to some of the other ones like N64 Rainbow Road, that new music one and the new Bowser's Castle.

Side note: Anyone else get almost exclusively coins and bananas for items or am I just THAT unlucky?

Yeah, I've heard many people state that the items system in this game is trash. But I can't tell you for sure. Maybe when the competition starts we can see if it truly balances itself out?

Still having trouble wrapping my head around how it works though. But I guess I have to play it to really know.

I can easily record a Grand Prix and show you how bad it can get if you want. I was gonna record it later for Game Anyone anyway. :p

No it isn't just you, the item system in this game is horrid when compared to 7 and MK Wii. 80% of all my items have been nothing but coins, and what's worse is that most of the time I had 10 coins already.

I like this new mariokart.

The visuals are great, It's nice to see a Nintendo product put out some very nice animated visuals in a game.
I think most games on the WiiU look good though, might be because I compare it to the Wii, but anyhow.

Like the tracks a lot and the music... well I usually have the radio on so I listen to Rock N' Roll and Heavy Metal, but the few times I've heard the music, it's been nice :)

I also like how the combo of the character, kart and wheels give you stats which then can give you an advantage or disadvantage in some tracks.

Also, tried the internet world wide a few races, maybe 5 -7 and it never crashed, once or twice I think I saw a shell come past me but it had actually hit me, so some small falws but nothing gamebreaking so far

Now for the big question!
People here interested in maybe creating a user group for, if not only MarioKart, but nintendo itself? There is a Nintendo UserGroup but that's been dead for super long, so a WiiU group or MK group or something were we could decide to play together online sometimes with escapist people?
Later this year SmashBros will arrive too so that's another one.

Aight.

I could create a group and let's see if it leads anywhere, still not that many escapists to my knowldge who have a WiiU, there was a thread maybe 7 months back were we dicussed this same thing and my wiiu friends list is composed of maybe 7 or 8 persons whom all are from this website, so let's see how we'll do :D

You could edit your opening post and say that I've created a user group called "WiiU online multiplayer"
Let's see if it picks up speed.

Yeah, the graphics are usually good now, but I find the style really light and stale, the level design doesn't do anything unique, and the new music has a weak melody. I don't feel the magic

I prefer the remake of N64 Rainbow Road. However, even though I find it pretty, it's also very cluttered and too damn short.
