Super Mario Galaxy. I love most Mario games but that one seriously blew me away.
My favourite Mario Kart game is Mario Kart DS.

Super Smash Bros. It counts in my mind, at least. I've never been a big fan of Mario games, the only ones I really ever put any time into were the two "different" versions of "New Super Mario Bros." (on the DS and then on the Wii). I have always liked the Mario Kart games, though. Double Dash was my favorite in terms of mechanics, Wii is my favorite overall simply for the amount of content in it. So I guess if you won't count Super Smash Bros. Brawl/Melee, then it'd be Mario Kart Wii (of course, I always play as Bowser. . .)

Super Mario galaxy. Quite possibly the best game I have ever played on any console.

The second one didn't quite hit the right notes with me though. It lacked the epic and mysterious feel of the first.

But seriously, I probably liked Sunshine the best
I need to give Sunshine another go. Was what made me think of this thread in the first place. I recall playing it for awhile and got sidetracked and hadn't touched it since. I really need to finish it.

Super mario bros. 3, definately. Was a very good game. Super mario world was also amazing, but... I never played it during my childhood.

1. SSBM

2. Double Dash

3. Whatever paper Mario was on GC. Thousand Year Door I think.

Can you guess which is the only Nintendo console I own?

For me, it's a toss-up between Super Mario World and Super Mario Galaxy 2, with my gut leaning more toward World. Galaxy 2 took the original and just made it more great while World perfectly balances the "Originality & Fun" scale better than any other game in the series.

For the RPG side: GOing to go with Thousand year door,it took the awesome PAPer Mario, ploshied it and added some nice additions.

For the regular games Yoshi's Island,it's just plain awesome, from the crayon visuals to pitch perfect gameplay.

If we're counting the RPG's I would have to say Mario & Luigi: Superstar saga. If we're not counting the RPG's it's gonna have to be a toss-up between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Sunshine.

I really can't choose, as I love all those I've played equally. And they all have their nostalgic feelings, so I'll just say all of them.

I always really liked the environment and setting of the game, and especially the music. My favorite stage in SSBB was delfino just because of the music.
I think the F.L.U.D.D. was a fun and well implemented addition, although the "no FLUDD zones" pissed 13 year old me off to no end b/c i couldn't do ANYTHING without a double jump or hover...

My favorite thing in the game was without a doubt the jet nossel, flying around the harbor like a was the flash just entertained me to no end.

It was also kinda funny how sunshine was a lot more about being a plumber than it was about rescuing Peach.

I think it depends on what you're looking for in a Mario game, but few were better than Super Mario RPG. Making Mario a silent, but not mute, protagonist was genius.

As far as platformers go, I don't think any game has ever done better than Super Mario World. I think I enjoyed playing Yoshi's Island more, but there was something so epic about the world exploration in SMW that Yoshi's Island can't compete with.
