I'd love to live on Mars. But I'm also sure I don't want to be one of the early settlers there. If history has told us anything about early settlers of new frontiers, it's that the casualty rate is pretty damn high.

The more i look into this the more it loosk like a scam. the support is shady, money coming from "Astronauts reality show" and uninterrupted supply form earth in unstable climate.
no, this wont work. it would be nice if it did, but it wont.

I hope you guys realize that the gravity on mars would cause great harm to your body over time.

Since artificial gravity doesn't exist, I can only imagine what kind of health problems would arise from being off the earth for that long.

Terraforming mars is a hopeless task. Without a sufficient magnetic field, the atmosphere will continue to be lost to solar winds etc over time.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of being on another planet is certainly very exciting, but realistically we need to accept the fact that saving the earth is our primary short term and medium term goal.

Just another thing, look up sex and reproduction in space.

You cannot have a proper colony without being able to have a self-sustaining population. Animals born in space do not develop properly.

There was a study on rats that showed even when space born rats reproduced on earth, their offspring did not come out normal (and not in a cool xmen way).
