Green Arrow kicks ass!

But marvel does write some dark stuff, notably "The death of captain america" and alos a lot of the Noir series is incredibly dark.
I'm sure Marvel have written darker stuff, but what I'm leaning towards is that the DC universe is pretty dark, all the time.

Quick comparison.
Joker up against The Green Goblin: Joker is far more sinister and more gritty than the Green Goblin.
Killer Croc against The Lizard Man (Doc Conners): again, Croc is a much darker character.

Marvel to me is very 50', it likes to stick with the old tricks.
If you will, it's very.

Where as DC is very

I love comics, but I don't really like most superhero comics, so I'd be inclined to dismiss both companies. But DC has the Vertigo imprint and a lot of my favourite titles hail from that line. Also, I find the plotlines a bit better on DC's end: they're dealing with mythic characters so they can gloss over "realism" a bit better. Marvel tries to do "gritty realism" and tends to fail at it.

I am loving the use of footage to demonstrate your point, and I do agree.

Marvel is like the happy go lucky kid in the playground squashin bugs and probably playing tick, DC is the lonely kid who sits on his own, hating the world lol

If it's not obvious by my avatar, but I'm a DC fan almost always. I find DC has much more interesting characters, and much better more complex stories. Plus I read comics for escapism, and Marvel is just too rooted in the real world. Besides, Superman, GL, Batman, Martian Manhunter, JSA, Marvel Family, Wonder Woman, They have it all over Spiderman, Iron Man, the Hulk, X-Men, Avengers, and Defenders.

Tend to prefer Marvel, most DC stuff is too over-powered and I've seen too much DC stuff with the heroes being too squeaky-clean or too weird.
I'll make exceptions for Batman, Huntress and Question.
I can't think of a DC character as cool as the Punisher.

Marvel is better all round, but DC has Batman. I'd say it's about even.
Marvel has Ghost Rider and Apocalypse...end of discussion.

Disney have bought Marvel, but Disney won't mess with Marvel and vice versa.

The thought of watching Iron man and Pinnochio duke it out brings tears to my eyes lol

Marval why you ask?

Because there heroes can lose they have lose and in some cases died. There mortal that makes one unable to know the ending. Take the OLD Man Logan story would yea, the heroes lost and bad-guys rule the US the Red Skull has taken over the white house and DC.

DC all there heroes are gods that never ever lose the fight. In some cases there hero is a god.

Only DC has gods you say?

cough ...THOR...cough lol

And DC characters do lose fights, plus DC struggled with the whole are they a hero or are they a criminal years before marvel had uttered the words civil war.

As the creator of this topic I would like to throw in my two cents again and say Marvel and DC is like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones...they need each other! lol

DC has the better heroes.
This is actually why I prefer Marvel. DC is about the heroes, while Marvel is about the characters. Think about it: there have been three Flashes, five Green Lanterns, and now there's a second Batman. The characters are basically interchangeable, and it's the superhero persona that matters. In Marvel, on the other hand, the people behind the mask are much more tied in with who the superhero is. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the DC heroes don't have personality, because they do (well, Batman does at least), but the Marvel heroes have much more personality, and as such I prefer them.

Incidentally, I hate Superman with the fiery intensity of a million George Foreman grills.

Also this. "Welcome Back, Frank" was awesome.

In fairness, JJ was telling people Spider-Man was a criminal years before Civil War as well.

To go with comics that are slightly more off the beaten track: has anyone else read Runaways? I just finished reading Volume 1 and thought it was absolutely fantastic. It comes back to what I was saying about Marvel having much more fleshed-out characters: these were some of the best-developed characters I've seen in a comic, and the superhero aspect of them actually seemed fairly insignificant.

Bottom line: in Marvel, the characters are people first and heroes second, and I always thought that was more interesting than DC's heroes.
