Kagome Higurashi from Inuyasha. Not just from her abilities gained because she is the reincarnation of the main character's past love interest, it's also the fact that EVERYONE loves her. Only the villains seem to dislike her. Most of the time.

Yugi Moto from Yu-Gi-Oh

I mean seriously, he has just the right card for ANY occasion?!? His Dark Magician doesn't get worse but BETTER when the Time Wizard's effect takes place?

Definitely a Gary Stu. Sorry Yug.

Yup, obvious author infallible inserts - Robert Langdon from the Davinci Code series.
Blomkvist from Millenium. AND HERMIONE GRANGER (capitals make forum posts more relevant right?) though I will admit as the books and movies went on she was allowed to stuff once or twice...

Richard fucking Rahl from the Sword of Truth books. Started off fairly sympathetic, flawed, and well-rounded, but turned into Lord Sue with greater force than a Harry Potter fanfic self-insert. This is a classic example of why using fiction as a medium for soapboxing is a dangerous route, folks.

I was about to say Luke Skywalker but wasn't Luke supposed to be a George Lucas insert? I'd end arguing against the Mary Sue designation here - mainly because Luke spends most the films (and the later novels) stuffing up and having his decisions backfire.

No comment about Anakin.

Rocky Balboa is the only Mary Sue that works (mainly rocky iv), though Sly Sylvester in the Expendables is another thing.

I don't get it. That Pikachu that should be level 100 by now lost to a water-type Panpour at the first gym in the newest season.

Richard Rhal from the Sword of Truth novels. He did start out normal-ish, but 12 books down the line he is an emperor of pretty much the entire world, has the magic of Deus Ex Machina, and still has that sword which is too powerful to describe.

Oh, and if he finds your morals off by more than zero notches from his, he will personally embark on a campaign to destroy you. And given what he has now he got by simply rising to the challenge, you will not win no matter how much Asspull or Diabolus Ex Machina you drop on him.

You guys ever read the Eragon series?

If not, don't. if you have... you know what I'm talking about.
TvTropes hold him as the patron god of Mary Suetopia. He has Richard Rhal as his right hand.

Ive been there, the whole place feels unatrual, in the worst possible way...

It's not a Mary Sue in every sense of the term, but Ash and Pikachu will ALWAYS overcome in the end, and everyone knows it. Any obstacle or difficulty they face is token - put up simply to try and poorly conceal the Mary Sue.

The writers will never run him into a wall he simply cannot overcome, or at least one he can't oversome by a timely evolve or heretofore unknown power.

You know, I'm going to be controversial here and say Marty McFly. I've only watched the first film - and don't get me wrong, I really liked it - but just stop and think about it for a second. He doesn't have a single character flaw.
he's too scared of rejection to really try at following his dreams...

then theres the whole "don't call me chicken" thing which...kind of comes from nowhere

anyway I think he's too normal to be considered a mary stu....I think it has to be more (and painfully) obvious

Like the Indigo League... where he flunked HARD! or perhaps in the latest Sinnoh League where he didn't even make it into the top 3?

Ok, time to pull this almighty page [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MarySue] from the the darkest depths of the itnernet [tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage].

From the almighty page [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MarySue]-

The claim that a character's Mary Sue status can be explained away by pointing out the plausibility of all the events. This kind of ignores the fact that most fiction is supposed to be about exceptional people. (Otherwise it's not interesting.) However, a major part of the issue with Mary Sues is that they break suspension of disbelief by being implausible within the setting. Many are willing to forgive a character on the basis of them not breaking Suspension of Disbelief.
In my mind the original anime played to this much better than the sequel series did.

I disagree. He will eventuallyy succeed at everything he does, and any resistance is simply chaff thrown in his way by the writers, in an attempt to say "Look, he has problems!" His failures aren't the result of a character flaw, they are just predictable catdboard obstacles.

He always solves these "problems" by revealing some new power (evolving, a super-move, etc.).

However, I concede that he isn't a traditional Mary Sue.

*Does not agree with Doctor assessment*

Characters with longtime build-up are exempt from that status. Longest sci-fi show ever? Doctor Who. In terms of an RPG where characters level up, take in new feats, and get better equipment, the Doctor has been steadily leveling for a VERY long time. This assessment of Sue-ness is therefore DENIED.
IDK, but I think I agree with you on this. From what I understand, a Mary Sue is a character that is perfect in numerous ways, which the Doctor can be considered in some rather... strained definitions. But unlike most Mary Sues, he has had this building up for a long time, so...
