Mass Effect 2 decision (Spoiler)

OK, so like a lot of you Escapists, I'm really looking forward to Mass Effect 3. What I'm mostly looking forward to in it is how the game takes into account of all of your decisions as Shep in the past 2 games. The big one for me is Legion's loyalty mission, involving the destruction or the reprogramming of the geth.

How do you guys think that this will impact ME3's story? Because there are lots of ways this could turn out. Destroy the geth, and maybe some areas of the game would be indirectly saved from being attacked in the future, meaning more missions/weapons/whatever. Reprogram them, and they might become another faction to meet with, get to know better, and unlock new story missions. Perhaps you either didn't do Legion's loyalty mission at all, or he left after the fight with Tali. In that case, the geth are still going to be a massive threat that you need to fight along with all of the reapers.

Thoughts, questions, things I got wrong?

The way that Legion described the rogue Geth meant that I destroyed them. He mentions multiple times that these platforms/programs made a choice to join the Reapers and I always feel that they are susceptible to coming to the same conclusion again in the future in addition to him making the point that if even one of them escapes the 'wipe' it will reinfect them . So boom.

How this will affect ME:3 for me? I doubt that the Geth will greet me with open arms but at least I wont have bad Geth to deal with. I look at it as well as what sits past the Omega relay as Reaper resources that need to be denied at all costs.

I chose to save the Geth, mainly because I'm like that. And secondly they just might come in handy in ME3. I've been thinking, the Collectors were manipulated like the Geth, maybe a Collector party member might be helpful addition.

I chose to help the geth and now I regret it. I think it might make the planned mission on Rannoch (the Quarian homeworld) in ME3 a bit trickier for the Quarians

As for how this will this affect ME3... no idea.

However, one little thought that keeps joy-riding around my head goes as follows: Legion said that reprogrammed heretics would rejoin the main body of Geth. They would then share their date/memories/code with the main network. What if, upon 'absorbing' the viewpoint of the returning heretics, the Geth as a whole decide that the Reapers are the way to go after all?

I choose to reprogram them. Considering them as programs, to reprogram would be like to convince them to join us. This and my decisions on Tali's mission makes me think peace can be archived between Geth and Quarians.
Considering the options are to reprogram or to destroy them, I don't think we will see many "heretics" on ME 3, but helping them increase their numbers can come in handy when they rally alongside us in the final battle.

I can't quite remember the exact words, but it went something like:

"Huh. Genocide or brainwashing. Great choices. Can you imagine being forced to just smile and nod? If that was me, I'd say just blow my head off. Let me die as me."

As far as I know the geth are building some super mega ass robot(?) to absorb them all or something like that. The difference in that decision might be that that project is done when the Reapers arive and that will help alot. I'm just saying maybe that thing isn't warfare at all and just more of collective memory bs.

I reprogrammed the geth because as far as I've understood, they're already corrupt or evil or whatever, and they can probably be useful later. It's sort of like either erasing the hard drive of a virus-infected computer, or smashing it with a bat and throwing it in a pond. I mean, seriously.

I reprogrammed the geth because in my eyes they could potentially be a really useful ally. A lot of likeminded Legion-esque geth? Sounds pretty good to me.

The worst that could happen is that they stay the way they are already... and let's face it, we're already used to dealing with that.

I imagine that Legion will probably be helping increase the amount of likeminded geth and creating and 'army' of sorts to help Shepard and destroy the Reapers as he (and other likeminded geth) view the other geth, and thus the Reapers, as the enemy. To Legion, whatever Shepard says goes.

It will have about as much significance as freeing the Rachni and saving the Council, it could potentially grant you additional allies when it comes time to combat the Reapers.

Legion said it himself, each species must be judged by it's own merits and you can't apply your own principles to them.

Reprogramming them isn't the same as lobotomizing them. That's what Jack doesn't understand.

The Geth don't think as individuals, they think as a whole. The individuals don't feel regret or sorrow, there's no part of them that will feel remorse over being rewritten. It's more akin to a nation changing it's allegiances.

Plus, they could be useful allies. Keep in mind one of the confirmed locations for ME3 is Rannoch, the Quarian/Geth homeworld. Could that not be a diplomatic mission to ask the Geth for aid?

I completed it several times (with different decisions from ME1 as well) to be able to see as many results combinations as possible. Both extremes (kill everything / save everything) and mids. And one game (the fisrt I played) with my own decisions.

That's the main problem with BioWare RPGs. They are still struggling not to make the decision system based on being either a superhero or a total douche all way long (like in KotOR). Mass Effect is clearly a step forward, but it still doesn't feel like I'm playing "myself".

But, on decisions. I left the council to die, because basically f you, blind idiots who only sit and dismiss claims. I was a purely strategic decision, to focus on real threat instead of saving useless politicians.
Rachni spared. I felt convinced that some of them (a very big part, apparently) were indoctrinated or whatever, so acting differently that they normally would. Also, more allies against the Reapers.
Geth base destroyed. I didn't trust them enough back then. And still don't like them very much.
Collectors' base destroyed. Giving it to Cerberus isn't much better than giving it back to the Reapers would be.

I went with reprogramming, think "cool geth on my side!"
but after watching the video of choices (thanks for the post Zhukov) I feel like it was the wrong choice... ah well whats the worst that could happen!?!
