I want to know what peoples opinions are on this because bioware are telling you to keep your old saves from Mass Effect so that you can start the game with how you ended it which is reasonable because if they told us a canon ending it would be like " This is how you played it.... well that way was wrong, this way is the right way." They also said they might do this for Dragon age. Which I think is a bad idea just because they would either not mention your past at all or only in a few bits of dialogue because it wouldn't be possible to include the different endings for mass effect and even more impossible to include different ending for dragon age and think what about the third in the series imagine how many combinations that would make. My view is making a canon ending will let them conserntrate a lot more on the story rather then including all the past endings. Now fellow escapists what is your opinion?

You don't have any faith in Bioware!

Why do they have to have canon endings? Don't stand in the way of evolution, this would be an awesome step forward for games in general. Be pessimistic if they fail.

There is a canon ending to Mass effect 1, it's the back story they give you when you start a new game that doesn't use a carried over game save.

Mass Effect 2 comes on two discs. It's huge.
Worry not.

I daresay its target audience is going to play those games repeatedly regardless.

Wouldn't something like that be against the whole point of the main idea behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, you know about the whole, create your own story thing.

I get what you mean but there might be a difference between default and canon and they'll most likely give two default starting points good and evil.

Nope.

Canonically, Shepard is a Soldier, let the Council die and some other stuff that I can't find at work.

I don't see it happening in Dragon Age. Especially if...

Your character dies

and it seems like in Dragon Age, it just ends with that epilogue. It tells you everything that happened and the effect of your choice. It tells you who lived, who died, who stayed, what happened, everything!

I'm thinking Dragon age will start with a new main character *fingers crossed* SANDALS! But they said they might try what they did with mass effect.

What will happen when it gets to the third in the serious they can't have all the combinations then.
Apparently the third one is where they just let it all happen. I'm paraphrazing but they've said that the structure is that the first two set up a story and the third one is the pay off where pretty much they go wild with it.

Mass Effect 3 will be so huge the univers will collapse on itself when the game goes gold

I think its likely in DO:A 2 the main character would be the kid Morrigan has with you

there is gonna be another dragon age? since when
Since before it was released. The game is called Dragon Age: Origins for a reason - it's intended to be the first game in a series.

I believe there will be a canon that you can edit to some degree if you pick the default Shepard without selecting a Mass Effect 1 save file, or if you don't even have one in the first place.

As for Dragon Age, if there is a sequel I'm guessing it'll go the route of KotOR. In the second game you'll get a conversation, that basically boils down to "This is what he/she did to the save the world, this is how he/she did it."

I'd prefer a canon ending because it makes the Dragon Age and Mass Effect universe's more defined.

As well, I actually played kotor 2 first and didn't know the conversation had a reason being there because it didn't effect the game except for one or two half a minute cut scenes here and there.

Yes. You can edit it right at the start if you don't import, but then it's not canon is it...

But thats the whole point of video games. To give you a universe to fuck around in. Leave the canon creating for the comic books, novels, and movies. Those mediums are by definition linear. Games are supposed to be entirely different. Giving you a world that you are capable of shaping. Now for the last 30 years, we've not had the technology to do what was meant to be done. But now a brave company is stepping into the unknown waters of the future and you want them to retard their efforts? You sir are an enemy of the state. I shall be outside your window tonight...

1) You said a bad word.

2) But so will Slender Man.
