So, who did you go for, as male or female shepard?

At the moment, I'm male and went for Jack. A lot of people have been saying she's trying to be a badass too much, but I think she's one of the best written characters I've seen. Unlike Miranda (who people seem to be more attracted to persuing) Jack is clearly pissed off about her lost childhood, but instead of reflecting upon it with a cruel indifference like Miranda, she supresses her sadness with drugs, sex and violence. I must say that Bioware has done an amazing job, because Jack is one of the few characters I have encountered that really tugged on my heartstrings.

I also know that a lot of people go for Tali, and I was tempted to go down this route myself, but Jack really drew me in as a broken shell of a person needed to be fixed and filled (in more ways than one).

I'm going to play as female shepard soon, and possibly go for Garrus as a Romance, he's the only character I really like from the three possibles (Jacob is just an emotionless Brick, and Thane is just dull for me).

So, who did you go for, and why?

Jacob OORAH! No I'm kidding. On my male Shepard I went after Tali. She's adorable, and she's so fragile. For my female Shepard, I think I'm going to try out Thane. I just hope that whatever he has can't be sexually transmitted. D:

Miranda first play through, then Tali on the second (hell, I didn't know Tali would be romance-able first time around).

As for Jack, really don't like her. Its a personal thing.

As for why, well, first time around, Miranda has a nice ass, and as you get to know her, I found her interesting as a person. Second time around, well, its Tali, who's pretty much a female nerd who can use a shotgun, has a great personality, and has a history with Shepard from Mass Effect 1 - basically, what's not to like?

I originally went for Yeoman, but got bored around the time she began feeding my fish, so I went for the Quarian, for she seemed more interesting.

This has been done by the way, a lot, in various forms.

Thane is dull? How dare you!

Well, I really couldn't care less about any of the romances in Mass Effect, so I intend on doing all of them just to see as much content as possible. I'm pissed off about the Tali romance though, since according to what I have been taught about the Mass Effect universe, the acts she and Shepherd engage in would just about inevitably result in her death. I'm pretty sure Bioware just threw it in to appease the fans who were crying for it, and that's not something I can resepct.

Fragile with a shotgun? Lies! Though I think she seems very capable and independent, but then again, thats the default for Quarians outside of the Migrant Fleet, heh.

I went for Kelly Chambers (aka Yeoman Chambers), mostly because you can flirt with her right away and I'm monogamous in games as in real life (yes, I know that's ridiculous, but it's the way I am. Point in case, have done 7 Playthroughs of Harverst Moon 64 and always married Elly). Unfortunately I *SPOILER!* chose to wait with the suicide mission and watched her die. Didn't finish the game, started over and saved her the second time around :).

Garrus and Tali respectively for my first and second playthroughs. I'll be hitting on Thane this time.

God damnit, do I really have to romance her just to stop my fish from dying?

I went for Garrus as a female, because he's just a well-written guy that I've had by my side through everything.

I just started my playthrough as my imported character (he's a guy) and I have no idea where to go. I'll go where the flow takes me.

Honestly? No, I don't find it ridiculous; I do pretty much the same, and I think alot of people do in these types of games. Have you tried the others in other playthroughs?

I wouldn't bother
When she got abducted in my name, I didn't have all thr ship upgrades so my fish ended up dying anyways While I 100% Explored the Galaxy.
The fish seem nice, but chances are your just stare at the space hamster anyways.

Not yet. Planning to try for Thane when I play female, because he's... well, Thane. Sure, it's kinda creepy and his eyes freak me out a little, but he's awesome. Ofcourse, the drama's kind of a downer. Still, I'd love to see how/if that affects ME3, what with *SPOILER!* Thane being fatally ill and having a son.

Like I've said several times before, I never pursue romances in video games. Why? Here's why;

Internet Kraken said:
To be honest I've never liked them. Having sex in an RPG just so you can have sex is....pretty much pointless. And none of the RPGs I have played have ever done relationships right, in my opinion.

I mostly talking about BioWare with this. Despite all of the character development there is never enough of it for me to believe that these characters love each other. These people go from being complete strangers to lovers in a matter of days. Even if the game says it's been weeks or months, to the player it still only feels like a couple of days, maybe even less. So I can't accept that these two characters have suddenly fallen in love.

That's of course the first problem. The second problem is that there are just far to many opportunities for the game to slide into the uncanny valley during these romances. Things like a passionate kiss, a loving embrace, etc. These need to look realistic, otherwise it kills the credibility of the moment. The games also tends to shove the camera right up to a character's face during these moments, where you can see every little detail and flaw in the character model.

So I suppose my problem with video game romances is that they just don't feel realistic. Considering all the things that have the potential to ruin a romance in a video game, this is not surprising. As a result, ending up in a relationship with a video game character usually has a negative impact on my enjoyment of the game.

Honestly, the only thing worse than failing to make a convincing romance is butchering your story in the process of doing so.
Of course once I start my next Paragon playthrough, I might accidentally end up with a relationship with her. But if I do then I'm reloading a save and never talking to her again. I don't want Shepard to lover her. I just want to see if she's actually a likable character. So far all she has done is been a racist *****. I'm sure she has to be better than that.

Damn, I wanted the hamster and the fish without having to clean out and replace the dead fish every other mission.

First playthrough for ME2 romanced Miranda. Mainly Renegade Shepard but really he does what i would do in real life, my true shepard. He romanced Liara in the first game.
Still doing my second playthrough, Paragon Shepard and romancing Tali, romanced Ashley in the first but i'm not sure if i wanna have sex with Tali and betray Ashley.

You really think she's capable and independent? I mean, sure she puts on a brave face...but everytime I spoke to her, I just kept seeing this scared little girl, who may as well be crying out for someone to hold her and take away from this horrible existence. But then again, maybe that's just me being a weirdo. xD

Well, she does blow up alot of Geth in my party, and she had a record of that before joining Shepard in ME1 (hence the memory core she got from a Geth). Add to that, she managed to get that Geth data off of Shepard in ME1 (at least, in my play through she did ;)).

But I do see what you mean about the scared bit - I think its because of the fact she has alot of pressure put onto her because of her father, and alot of other issues between the 2 of them.

Honestly, I enjyed the romance choice but any carrying out is a sad thing to watch. As good as graphics have become, interactions with people on a touching level seem awkward and painful to watch.
