Mass Effect 2: What do i do?

Ok, my friend forced Mass Effect 2 upon me today. Thing is, I havent startedplaying it yet and I've never plyed the first. Should I get ME1 before I start playing, or just go for it?

You can still enjoy even if you haven't played the first one, although the game becomes way more enjoyable if you do.

You do realize if you had to come to these forums to answer this dilemma then you're going to have a whole hell of a lot of trouble when actually playing either game.

If you've got a lot of time to kill play ME1 then ME2. If you don't have a lot of time on your hands then just skip ahead and play ME2.

Definitely play the first one, you get so much more out of it that way. And you feel your decisions matter a lot more.

Seconded. That way you also get to understand the characters a bit more. Best part about it though, is the import-feature, where you use the Shepard from the first game in the second, and all the choices you made then affect the story now.

The game is more enjoyable if you play ME1 first, but still is able to stand on its own.

It really just depends on how much money you're willing to spend.

If you are interested in the epic story line, get ME1. If this was 'forced' on you, you're probably fine sticking with just ME2. Personally I can't imagine playing ME2 without ME1 first, but that's just me.

I'd say play ME1 first, because I can imagine that the story would be hard to follow without it. However, some parts of the game are dreadful compared to ME2, such as the combat.

You don't need to, but I would read up on the story, so you understand who's in it and what's going on.

Id just rush through Mass Effect 1. It costs like 20$ and you won't regret it.

play ME1 first you make some choices first transfers via the savegame over to ME2 i just took up ME2 again with new DLC aswell ^^

I recommend playing 2 first. ME:1 can be a bit hard to get into, and 2 is much better. If you enjoy 2, which you will, it makes 1 less daunting.

Play 1 first if you can. The action is a bit less and the side-missions are a bore. The main storyline and missions are a lot better though. Plus importing your character into 2 is cool.
