If it's "as good" as Mass Effect 1 then I hold zero hopes for this game trilogy (so I have been told). So far the gameplay information thats been given is a good sign, it's an improvement that I welcome even though I didn't have much objection to some of it. My major concern is the story, for god sake if it's "as good" as the first game there in lies my 'no hopes' statement. Seriously they gotta pull off something good to redeem it for me after how painfully weak the first one was.

I'm not entirely sold on Mass Effect 1 I still haven't got any real reason to sit down and complete it either.
I don't find it very compelling, I am looking forward to ME2 though.

It could possibly be better for me.

When i watched this i was so happy. Your decisions from the first game carry through to the second, its amazing. I think i just fell in love. Oh god it looks sexy.

We'll just have to wait and see I guess.
I'm thinking that it will be at least the same, Drew Karpyshyn is a terrific writer.

I think it will far surpass Mass Effect. Mass Effect's one true innovation was the conversation system, which is something I hope will be replicated by more RPG developers. The conversation system, while one of the biggest steps RPGs have taken in a long time, will be easy for Bioware to replicate.

Where Mass Effect 2 really needs advance is in the combat. The combat in Mass Effect 1 is action-packed and fun, but it didn't really do anything much, and it was pretty bare-bones combat, while still fun. My biggest hope for Mass Effect 2 is that it advances in the combat system, and from what I've seen and heard about the game, it looks like Bioware has put a lot of energy into fine-tuning the combat, adding extra layers of depth, and making the combat play like "more of a shooter."

I'm incredibly excited for Mass Effect 2, and I'll be picking that up the moment it comes out.

I thought the story was incredible!
I like stories with a lot of character development though, so that's part of why I liked it so much.

Hey I liked how developed the characters where too don't get me wrong, but they were so irrelevant after you heard their life story, their overall roles in the story were so shallow and meaningless that it just fell apart for me. I thought the overall story was terribly average and had so much wasted potential, it was just so damn shallow and uninspired. Hell don't make me pull out my Mass Effect rant unless you want to be offended. I still look forward to ME2 because it DOES seem like a big improvement. For as much as I harp on the game I still enjoyed it in an odd way, a very love/hate relationship with it, my sci fi geek tolerated it's "star trek quality" (hard to explain what I mean by that). So yea...ME2 better make good on it's word or I will just have more flaws to nit pick at :p

Who knows? Haven't the last five or so years of gaming taught you that expectations for video games just need to die? Don't make me start listing examples, sir. You should just keep playing Mass Effect, and when two comes out watch a few reviews from your preferred reviewers, maybe check out some screens if the mood strikes you, and if you still feel like it, drop sixty bucks on that bad boy.

Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Either way, it's sure to be an OUTSTANDING game, just like the original.

I have really high hopes, Mass Effect was absolutley brilliant bar my anoyances items and some copypaste worlds. But they seemingly took the lack of inventory distinction problem to heart so im excited heres hoping for more involving story, more worlds, better combat and even more allies.

But Mass Effect 2 will be a lot better than Mass Effect... four words; no elevator loading screens
I loved those loading screens. Well, only when the characters had something to say.

You know what? Scratch what I said earlier. This game is going to be the bomb! Unless Bioware screws it up fantastically (the chances of which are infinitesimally miniscule), Mass Effect 2 will the best game I have ever played.

I LOVED Mass Effect; I bought my 360 just to play it, and the xbox itself is all nice and cosy now in a shiny new faceplate and vinyl Mass Effect stickers.

However, I'm dubious as to how good ME2 is going to be. Not least because of the rumours that you don't actually get to play as Shepard for the whole game. Now that EA have taken the reins, I'm really fearful that the game will be rushed and unfinished, over-hyped, and targetting pre-pubescent 12 year olds of the "HALO 3 IZ TEH BESTORZ!!!one!!eleven!!" demographic. The upcoming iPhone game "Jacobs Story" reeks of a cheap way to simply rake in more moolah; the game itself looks awful, with that disgusting comic-book style artwork.

I'll reserve my full judgment until we see more trailers and get more info, but right now... I'm doubtful.

Mask of the Betrayer pretty much improved on everything that needed to be improved on.
This. Mask of the Betrayer was unbelievably good, especially after what a monumental crapfest NWN2 was... Still wouldn't trust Obsidian to make a Bioware sequel, though. Especially after Storm of Zehir. That game wanted to make me kill myself and/or everyone around me.

Actually, I think I heard that Drew isn't behind the story for this one...

Why? I loved Storm of Zehir, it was like the old retro RPG's I used to play ages ago. Solid combat, excellent music, decent visuals, and a fun twist on the base gameplay. Methinks you were just expecting another story-driven Mask of the Betrayer style experience despite Obsidian having said often in advance they were going to try for something different this time.

ANYWAY, considering Mass Effect 2 is being developed by the same guys who did one but now with better knowledge of the engine their working with and more experience, I've no reason to doubt Mass Effect 2 will improve on the original in every way they can. Bioware are a fantastic developer, I trust em. And if all else fails I live close enough to be capable of firebombing their office should they provoke my great wrathful wrathiness.

A thought occurred to me: as sure as I am that this game will be good, I'll wait for Zero Punctuation to address it. If Yahtzee likes it, I know to steer clear, as they replaced all the conversations with action.

That made me smile. Maybe he'll get around his apprehension towards romancing Ashley Williams this time? ;)
