Hello people of the escapist.

To give you the reason why I ask this question, I recently discovered that my copy of Dragon Age: Origins, ultimate edition came with a free armor set for the game Mass Effect 2, and now since I've beaten DA:O I need a new game, so is ME2 worth it?

Sure it is, its one of the best games of 2010.
However, you might want to check the story of ME1, at least on wikipedia.

It as loads of replayability and was nominated and has won many game of the years.

Yeah, it's worth it. Only a couple problems though. Mining-Boring. Cover combat plauges it, enemies appear, GET IN COVAR!. If you liked the first one, you'll dicover it doesn't have as many rpg elements as the previous enstallment.

Overall, it's still a very solid game. Interesting characters and a cool story.

Actually it's probably best to play all of ME1 first, since you can import your character and the decisions they made in ME1 will affect parts of ME2. It also gives you better understanding and experience of the mass effect universe and characters, and is another great game to add to your library.

ME2 is a really good game. If you've played ME1 the only "major" change is the cooling system for the weapons.

But without going through a long winded essey detailing all the reasons you should buy it i'll just say yes, yes it is worth playing. Give it a go.

Heeeeeell yea.

ME2 quickly became one of my favorite games to play.
And in spite of the cover-based combat, it's still a load of fun.
Mining can get a little boring, but it's not all that bad of a grind compared to other games I've seen.
The story I think is pretty good all in all, though some would disagree. And it's neat in that, actions you take, you feel like they really impact things. Especially any you made in the first one.

All in all, I'd say go for it. Besides, it's pretty cheap by now.

No. The characters are soulless rubber masks, the writing is mediocre to bad (yet still gets good reviews for some reason), and the gameplay is simple and repetitive.

So if you liked Dragon Age, you'll love it!

Yes, it is very worth it. But I strongly recommend you finish ME1 first as the series heavily focuses on the story and importing your decisions into the sequels.

Play ME1 first if you can, at this point it should be pretty cheap to get and will do a lot in the way of immersing yourself in the story and setting, which will give the events in the second more weight and significence.

Yes, although you're definetly going to want to play ME1 first.

In addition to bringing you up to speed on the story, importing a ME1 character is very important. If you just start a new game in ME2, then it'll start you off assuming you got the Renegade ending in ME1.

Yeah, but if you haven't played the original Mass Effect, either read up on it online or get the Genesis comic so you can make all the choices from the first game.

IMHO: ME2 is shit. the gameplay is boring, the story is bat fuck stupid and all the human characters crawled out of the uncanny valley. Do not waste your time with this piss poor sequel.

Short answer: Yes
Long answer: Why the hell haven't you played the damn game yet? Did you live under a rock recently?

If it helps any at all, the current Gamestop prices for ME1 and 2 are $20 and $18 respectively.
