Mass Effect 2, Worth it?

ME2 is definitely worth it, but if you start playing it without using an ME1 saved game it assumes, by default, that you did everything the "Renegade" way (which I personally do not like). If you have a PC there are some savegame creators/editors you can use to get around this problem, but if you're on a console I'd suggest playing ME1 (which is great in and of itself, although certainly not perfect).

I enjoyed ME and ME2. Having said that, people are overhyping it. You must also recognize that Mass Effect 2 is the middle child, and as such feels unfinished, because it /is/. It's still great, but the story won't be as involved as the first one simply because it's leading up to things that won't be important until ME3 for the most part. Having said that, I still loved it, the characters are so fun.

Also, I think despite what everyone has said, you must think very carefully about it. If you love DA:O, you may not like ME or ME2. It draws a person of different interests.

I would also strongly recommend that you play ME because the situations in ME2 will carry far more weight and feel a lot more meaningful to you. But understand that you'll be then faced with a problematic fighting system and horribly boring sidequests on the Mako. The story however, is solid.

Yes, definitely worth it. If you purchase it for the PS3 you get a graphic novel that allows you to make all the important choices you otherwise would have made in ME1. You also get a good introduction to the story. I played ME1 on my computer at first, but my laptop couldn't handle ME2, so I got it for the PS3 and imported my decisions from the original through said graphic novel. Fairly good system, I'd say.

I'd say get it, it's only $20 now anyway, but I'd suggest getting ME1 as well. Even if you buy Genesis (the comic that lets you make a few of the big choices), it's not the same at all, and you'll miss out on a lot of both the story and characters. And... I have to be honest, although I enjoy the combat and environments of ME2 more than ME1, I really, really love ME1's story and the way you get to know your squad. So get both!

If you're getting one for PS3, of course, you don't really have that option. But if possible, I'd say take it. Both games are definitely worth it. They aren't perfect, but they are fun and interesting. As has been said before, though, the DAO armor you get really isn't all that great. Looks awesome, though.

Hello people of the escapist.

To give you the reason why I ask this question, I recently discovered that my copy of Dragon Age: Origins, ultimate edition came with a free armor set for the game Mass Effect 2, and now since I've beaten DA:O I need a new game, so is ME2 worth it?
like what many have said, you should start with ME1 as you can import your character into ME2 and then into ME3 when its released. doing so will give you a different experiance depending on what choices you make in ME1 to ME2 and then to ME3.

It's terrible as an RPG and has a terrible main story, but the characters and their loyalty missions are top notch and the shooting itself is pretty solid. Probably my second favorite game last year, despite it's many flaws.

Totally worth it. I found the ending to be a bit of a letdown and the mining is one of the worst things ever concocted by man, but everything else is an absolute blast. Though if you're looking for the same level of customization, strategy, and micro-managing that DA has, it's not in ME2.

No not at all the game was pretty bad IMO. One of Bioware's worst games. ME1 was better in just about every way. ME2 had a bad story, bad characters, and was so dumbed down that it was not even a RPG anymore. Instead of fixing some of the problems of the first game they pretty much just took whole elements out of the game.

I like it. You'd have to give more details about what games you like before I could predict if you'd like it.

The DLC for ME1, since you only have to get one of them since one is included with the platinum hits copy, is 6 to 8 dollars, I can't remember.
Whichever DLC is set on a meteor, that one's pretty much a must-have. Not to spoil anything, but it's a good source of a couple of essential items that can't be found for love nor money in the main game, aside from being a really good quest in and of itself.

But yes -- the ME series is amazing. Play it. Assuming you don't mind a stereotypical (but very well executed) expansive-space-opera plot. Oh, and roll a female Shepard -- the female voice actor is much, much better than the male one.
Yeah, that's the one that comes with the platinum hits copy. The Pinnacle Station, while not as long, is good as well. It provides some nice challenges, and it has the nice retirement home reward if you beat all the challenges, which is a nice bones because when you go there you can use the computer there to contact merchant ships that are selling very nice but expensive items, one being the Frictionless Material X upgrade, which when applied to my assault rifle, it pretty much made it unlimited fire with now over heat. I fired for three minutes with out over heating, and decided not to see how long it took to overheat because it would have taken too long.

It also has some easy to get achievements for an achievement junkie like myself, it is also good for racking up the "gun use" achievements.

+1 to Yes.

Also, I recommend playing Mass Effect 1 first. Just... trust us on this. It's a pretty good game in its own right and it will considerably improve your ME2 playthrough. An imported character and decisions makes for a good time.

Furthermore, I recommend the DLCs Lair of the Shadow Broker and Stolen Memory (Kasumi). Overlord is pretty good too, but might not be worth the price. The Zaeed DLC, Price of Revenge is worth grabbing if you get it free, but I don't think it's worth paying for, although of course your mileage may vary.

Well the mining was like crack for me or something, because even though I knew I had collected 30 times more ore than is needed for buying the upgrades, I kept mining. I actually looked at and mined every planet in that game. But that is probably because I am OCD with such things in games.

I thought it was far better than the mining in ME1. It was a lot more time consuming driving around every inch of every land-able planet and searching for the nodes and doing that stupid patterned button pressing to get the stuff.

That is why I love the hacking and bypassing of ME2, it actually looks like I'm doing something instead of just pressing whatever colored buttons in a pattern ME1 randomly spits out when I did that stuff in it.

Me2 is worth it, get out the popcorn and enjoy the ride!

Playing the first game will enhance the experience so would reccomend picking both games up if you can, but me2 can stand strong on itself.

The negatives of the game tend to be ignored by most players (me included) as game seems to be effective at sucking people in.

I think the Zaeed DLC comes with even the regular copies so it is free. I bought my copy ME2 from Amazon for 20 bucks around 4 or 5 months ago, and it is a plain edition, not a special edition or anything, and it came with the Zaeed DLC and of course the Cerberus Network stuff.

Zaeed comes with all new copies of the game.

But if you buy used then you'll have to pay for him.
