What matters for the ending:

Your ship upgrades (not counting mining or med-bay)
Who is loyal
Who you choose for the vents
Who you choose to lead the first team
Who you choose for the biotic bubble
Who you choose to send back with the crew (if anyone)
Who you choose to lead the second team
Who you choose to be in your party in the final battle

The end.

Sent Garrus through the vents and had Grunt lead the second team. Garrus took a rocket to the face. Jack successfully protected us through the swarm. Sent Grunt as the distraction team and it was a bit too much for him. Sent Jacob back with Dr. Chakwas. Mordin's body was found left behind in the door defense after Shepard, Tali and Legion defeated the Reaper larva.

has anyone been able to save Kelly chambers?
You can save her if you go straight to the Omega 4 relay right after the crew is abducted, doing missions after that will cause her to die most likely.

Yeah, you just need to get to the final stage after getting the IFF asap. I think all I did was gain Legion's loyalty and then I headed through the Omega 4 relay and was able to save them. I think that if you do too many missions you arrive just in time to see them dissolve.

I was able to finish the last level without anyone getting killed. It's very important to full upgrade your ship and give people their personal upgrades like Mordin's Omni tool. You also have to send people to the things they'd be suited for based on their leadership and abilities. You want the best biotic for bubble so tack Jack, you want the best leader for the distraction team so take Garrus, Miranda, Jacob or maybe Zaeed (not sure on him) and with the tubes I found Legion to be the best, Tali got shot but I also sent Samara (a poor leader) as the distraction team so that might have been why. I don't think that it matters who take with you to the final fight as long as they are loyal.

I had sexy time with Miranda, and didn't blow up the collector base. Everyone survived.

Long story short, you need to have played ME1 to fully appreciate ME2. It's like watching the Prequel Trilogy of Star Wars before watching the Original Trilogy...
I almost thought so. The only reason I didn't play ME1 is because I didn't have the right computer at the time. Got a new one just recently and just thought about playing part 1 when the second one came out.
Going to play the first one next, then import my Savegame to the ME2 and play that again, to understand the references better.

Hmm, one part of me says that a game should be able to stand on it's own and not rely on it's predecessor to make it seem whole, but on the other hand different parts of trilogies are meant to go hand in hand, especially so if it's as interconnected as ME1 and 2 (and eventually 3) seem to be.

I guess it's like watching The Empire Strikes back without watching A New Hope, or something. =P

First play through, everyone was loyal and ship fully upgraded. Everyone has weapon and their own special bonus equipment. No romance as I remain loyal to Ashley. (Was going after Miranda though). Crew snatched, go after them straight away. Everyone survives the approach. Garrus leads fire team, Jack provides biotic bubble, Garrus and Tali help take down Reaper while Miranda leads the holding force. Crew saved and sent back to Normandy guarded by Zaeeed, all survive. Everyone survives the final fight but I think Miranda got grazed by a bullet... (Not sure). Told the Illusive Man he was an idiot and blew up the Collector Station.

First one through, I got unlucky...Thande died in the vents. All ones since I have used Legion as the vent guy, Garrus as squad leader, and Jack or Samara as the biotic. Works like a charm.

Majority Paragon, and no sex in ME1 as well as in ME2. Full ship upgrades so no one died during the flight in. Had the unique all of the upgrades possible except the one for Legion and Jack. Had everyone loyal and only had one of the crew got juiced. Had Mordin go through the tubes and he ended up eating a bullet. Had Zaeed lead the second group both times but the second time he got shot in the gut. Had Thane and Garrus in my squad the entire time. Had Samara do the force shield thing and she lived. Had Jacob go back with the crew and they all made it. Killed the Reaper and saved the station. Since I thought Martin Sheen did the best voice-acting in this game I was buddy-buddy with him. Almost banged Miranda, Jack, and Tali though I suspect I didn't get any of them because I was too nice to all of them at the same time.

Oh, and I destroyed the Collecter station and told the Illusive Man to go fuck himself.
Ah, finally someone who knows how to play the damn game! :p

That was my ending as well. Only it took one more try. (I didn't realize Jacob wasn't competent enough a "leader" to keep Tali from eating bullets. Which is unacceptable; Tali is awesome. I also didn't know that I had to put off doing Legion's loyalty quest and go save my crew right away to keep half of them from being liquefied. Especially Kelly. I had to save her dammit!)

But seriously, it's called a suicide mission all through the game! How can people not prepare their crew's loyalty and their ship's armor, shields and cannons? It's obvious that that stuff is going to determine how many people survive!
hehe, first time through I got everyone do survive :)
I had Miranda be the leader for both Fire Teams, and it worked :D
I also used Jack as my Biotic and Legion in the tunnels.

What's weird is that everyone, crew included, survived yet I'm pretty sure I went back to Illium to do Liara's sidequest after Joker's moment of glory. I may have done Legion's loyalty mission in between as well, yet the flirty slut lived to check my emails another day. It could be because I started Liara's mission way early in the game but finished it later.
But like someone said, just have the three main ship upgrades, all squadmates loyal, and send the right people to do shit. In my experience, Miranda and Jacob make good leaders, Tali makes a good hacker, and Mordin makes a nice escort. Samera did a nice job of escorting my core crew of Garrus and Grunt.
The only thing that slightly confused me was when Grunt was sliding off into the abyss like Tali did in the trailer, yet my petite female Shepard was able to save him without much effort. I guess she used pull, my favorite biotic power of all time.

Yeah, Miranda really wanted to be team leader, but I was calling the shots and I wanted her with me (Her 'Cerberus Leader' ability gives the squad extra health and weapon damage and 'Warp' detonates biotic effects active on enemies. Good combination with Samara who I was using to 'Throw' the collectors off their floating platforms before they even reached us.). Once I chose Garrus as second squad leader though, no one died. Jack proved competent at keeping the swarm off our backs and Zaeed got the crew back to the ship safely.

And I read on the wiki that for every major upgrade you don't do for the ship, a squad member bites the dust from a hull breach, debris collision or some such.
Really?

Well thats interesting.

I'm gonna have to start up a new game and just try to screw the team over. Just to see what will happen :p
