EA has spoken at an investor conference about realigning the franchise to appeal to a larger market. Does this have anything to do with the delay? What does this mean for the game?

Discuss.

Probably is the reason for the delay. It reeks of the bean-counters getting in the way of the creatives. Killing the golden goose. Here's hoping they don't fuck everything up.

If ME2 already took flak over being too simple, then ME3 is in for a shitstorm. Possibly, of course.

It's EA.

I've never resorted to using such language during times of distraught and anguish, but here it goes.

Mass Effect is FUCKED.

Another franchise bites the dust.

How in the world are they going to give it more mass a appeal than ME2 it seems impossible.

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic about this but in all honesty...I really don't like how that sounds.

Wat.

I'm of the opinion that the first game should grab all the audience the game needs, and then the following games should pander to the existing audience, so this news makes me worried.

I really don't like the sound of this. At all. Maybe I'm just a doomsayer, but I've been burned enough times by EA to feel like I'm justified in being apprehensive.

I wish they cared more for the quality of the game than the amount of copies it sells upon release, but I guess that's just big business. Sad.

I personally hope they remove all the dialog. Its why I stopped playing the first one.

Well they did say they planned on bringing some RPG elements back in, so that would expand it a bit over what ME2's was.

I'm not worried.

Loved both games, and given what I've read, I have absolutely no reason to be concerned about the last one being terrible.

Probably just trying to find ways to get more people interested in the game (with the comics, the books, and a potential movie on the horizon I don't know what other ideas EA has. Probably bad ones though...)

This could be nothing to worry about or it could be very bad.

My things is why do this with the third and final installment instead of the first. They did it with the second and while opinions are mixed, I think they almost had the combat perfect (trimmed too much).

If they are talking about story and character interaction, how can that possibly be tweaked to appeal to a larger audience without damaging the quality of the story?

....I really hope that this is just some executive meddling and not Bioware's idea. And if it is executive meddling, why can't they just let the ME team work on a quality product?

I was fine with just hearing a delay (after the DA2 fiasco, I don't think they want another possible rush job), but this gets me wondering....

Don't lie to yourself, EA is going to pull this franchise down a road of misery if the rumors hold up. Milking and marketing is all EA actually cares about. When they mean popular market, they're referring to the individuals who are willing to supposedly whip out their wallets in the fastest fashion conceivable.

With this in mind, I'm guess that...

- Online Multiplayer will be introduced, and fail horribly
- Simplified game mechanics with the possibility of rushed production value
- Loads and loads of DLC packs

I know that I may be acting a little presumptuous and negative about the situation, but previous actions from EA tend to remind me otherwise.

The more games Bioware releases the less good they become. Its disappointing. Oh well, at least we can look forward to Dragon Age 27 and taking down the reapers with excessive amount of teabagging

Because EA has repeated time and time again on how they aim their big action franchises to 'rope' in the COD market?

so far what i've read about ME3, it should be more complex in the RPG part than ME2 (more skills for leveling, modding weapons) then there is the save import where choices you made should have a bigger effect than ME2's import system, other than that its really Bioware's writing that makes the company they are now. I think Bioware has allready confirmed that ME3 doesnt have online multiplayer but if they are planning to add somekind of splitscreen co-op campaing I would really welcome that (ofcourse I would need friends first :( )
