Oh god dammit I thought that you got perma banned. Also you warned us about many things pal, this was not one of them, Hell, Mass Effect was nothing but perfect up until the ending.

Also, fanboy...

Aw well, now that Zeel has joined the debate I'll probably get a couple of badges for hot threads.

Technically the whole Reaper/Catalyst thingie is a combination of a few classic sci-fi tropes, just Bioware didn't go all explicit on it. It's all about ascension, something that Harbinger tells Shepard repeatedly in ME2 ("We are your salvation", etc), and the fact that races other than your own represent only risk.

For more explanation of the second concept, I recommend a book called The Killing Star, by Pellegrino and Zebrowski, if you can find it.

In theory, then, the Catalyst is a shackled AI, programmed to fulfill the wishes of its creators (organics who ascended by becoming the first Reapers), presumably after fighting a vicious war or wars with synthetics that they created. So rather than risk organics attaining the necessary technological prowess to create a race of machines that decide to wipe out all life (once they reach the inevitable conclusion that permitting something to exist that is not them is an unacceptable risk towards their long-term survival), the Catalyst is set up to harvest advanced civilizations and force their ascension into Reapers.

It's a little clumsy, but I've seen worse concepts. It's one part Pohl's Heechee saga, one part Saberhagen's Berserker saga, a dash of Niven's Known Space books, a smidge of Hamilton's Night's Dawn series, and just a trace of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Like I said, I don't mind the endings, really. I just want an epilogue that tells me what happened after.

Oh boy here we go again "HALO IS YOUR FAORITZE GAME! U IZ MINDLESS MORON WHU ONLY WANTZ TO KILL ALIENZ AND THERE FOR YOU IZ DUMB! U NO NOWES WAT GOOD GAMEZ R! Yeah, never heard that "creative" argument before. Yes, Mass Effect 3 was completely perfect to me, minus the shitty ending. Are you doing to go off on a tangent on how my opinion is wrong? Also I like Halo, again are you going to rant about how I am a mindless drone for liking John-117 and Thel 'Vadam?

Nothing but "perfect" are you being serious right now? serious, you're being dead serious right there? Seriously? perfect is how you want to describe mass Effect 3?

I'll tell you this. The fact that Halo is your favourite series does not surprise me at all.
I'm playing it and it is damn near perfect except for how the side quests work. The journal doesn't update and gives you fuck all information for the quest. Worst designed quest log I've ever seen. And the quests are super generic to round out the mediocrity. Oh, and the endings are.....they don't exist.

Perfect except for this, that, and that. Maybe you need to amend your statement.
No, pretty much dead on right except for side quests and the endings. And this is coming from one of ME3's biggest critics pre-release.

"OH NOEZ, I LIEK SHOOTER THEREFOUR I IZ DUMB" Buddy, I wouldn't criticize a game if you can't even figure it out when I'm referencing the main freaking characters.

Thel 'Vadam

Also there's this thing called "personal taste" something that continues to escape your vocabulary.

You seem to be under the impression that you can prove that my opinion matters less than yours and that I'm a moron because I like Mass Effect 3 and Halo, maybe one day you'll realize that everyone who doesn't conform to your strict beliefs isn't morons and you'll apologize...on the other hand maybe I'll walk on water and heal the sick with my bare hands.

His first name is John and 117 is his SPARTAN designation, so much for not caring on iota about Halo, though I'm not sure what an "iaota" is. I guess you have a point, the first mass effect wasn't a shooter, that's why the guns and cover mechanics and regenerating shields were there. It was a RPG that was pretending to be a shooter by having shooter mechanics that were supported by shitty RPG mechanics.

Yes, all that "level up" stuff and "upgrading different abilities" and "customizing weapons" those aren't RPG elements...oh wait yes it is. I never said that ME1 was an RPG...it was just a very shitty RPG. Mass Effect is a shooter AND an RPG. Games can be more than one thing you know, hope this revelation didn't give you a brain hemorrhage.

Also going back to your other post, seriously what's an "Iaota" I don't even have an iota of a clue what that's supposed to mean.

Too bad that bioware kind of chucked that whole hybrid genre and focused purely on being a shooter game. I was with you until my rpg elements got tanked for shooter aspects.
Given that ME3 reintroduced some of the RPG aspects that got axed for ME2, one wonders why you didn't quit the series (and caring about it, for that matter) back when ME2 came out.

Too bad they then proceeded to gut every other RPG aspect left. Including the morality system,
Still there.

the dialogue system.
Still there.
Zeel said:
hell, they even removed most of the squadmate interaction.
And still there.

And they reintroduced a variety of weapons, with tangibly different stats, the ability to improve and customize those weapons, and a few other bits that were part of the original Mass Effect RPG model.

Me2 is a red headed step child to me. I mean, it's not an RPG exactly but I still like it enough. If me3 had been me2 but with the enhanced combat. I wouldn't have complained. Had me3 been me3 with enhanced combat I would take back every nasty thing I've ever said about Bioware. Too bad dreams dont come true.
But... ME3 is ME2 with improved combat and improved RPG elements. To assert otherwise is simply disingenuous.
