The Mission their talking about is the one literally right before you go to Earth. YOu attack cerberus base and it's where you kill Kai Lang it that helps clear anything up

I'm scared that if the endings don't turn out to be liquid gold, the Mass Effect community will be out for Bioware's blood
A significant proportion of them will regardless.

However, 90% of it will be passive-aggressive bitching from people who will still buy every game and preface every criticism with a gushing assertion of being a "twoo fan" whose experience is being ruined by the cancerous influence of Jennifer Hepler and too much ghey or something.

Unfortunately Bioware seems to have acquired one of the most poisonous and disgusting vocal minorities in history. Fortunately, they seem to be remarkably good at tuning them out, so I suspect I'm going to do the same and engage in cautious optimism that the new ending will be, if not great, then at least good enough.
Don't let the Bioware Social crazies taint your view of those of us who didn't like the ending. Some of us are sane :D

Honestly, the fact the starchild is staying does not make me hopeful. It seems like they've made an honest attempt to deal with some of the issues but there's still the core catalyst plot that comes out of nowhere and ignores the series' main themes and tone.

It's like if Lord of the Rings ended with Frodo using the ring at the behest of Tom Bombadil, while being told Sauron was just trying to prevent a war between Gondor and the south.

"greater detail on the impact of player decisions" doesn't mean much when player decisions had zero impact previously. >.>

I'll wait to see the damn thing on youtube

what worries me is now I have a chance to change the ending (after learning about the indoc theory) I don't know if I should stick with my original choice.

Either way I hope they fix the plot holes.

This makes me cautiously optimistic for the ending. If they really put this much work into it, then perhaps this can save the ME series from forever being the black sheep of story-driven franchises. I'm getting excited for this Tuesday :)

Did anyone else dislike how the Bioware guys kept dancing around the fact that people hated the original ending? It's to be expected, but the fact that they kept referring to it as things like "discussion and debate" rather than "95% of your fans despised the ending" was annoying to me.
The interview was pretty much exactly what I expected; softball questions from the interviewer who was gushing with praise far too much, sidestepping specific criticisms and trying to blame it on fans not wanting to let go of Mass Effect.

And holy crap, almost 2 gigs worth of stuff, going back to before the Cerberus base? Part of me really wants this to fix all the plot holes that it opened, and in the 2 gigs it might just do that. Part of me is worried that it's going to open up dozens of more plot holes ("The Citadel was created as a place for organic life to live and be observed by the first race we uplifted and re-purposed, the Keepers. When they determined that an artificial race was on the verge of being created, they would call the Reapers back to destroy all sentient life that was advanced enough to travel in space!" "So why did the Keepers wait 300 years after the Quarians created the Geth to try to call the Reapers back into the Galaxy? For that matter, why did the Reapers start the Rachni Wars what, 1200 years ago? 900 years before the Quarians created the Geth? While we're at it, what about the Catalyst? If it can control the Reapers, why did it need the Keepers to-" "STOP BEING ENTITLED! YOU MUST RESPECT OUR ARTISTIC INTEGRITY!") and we're going to have a good six months worth of posts, debates, arguments, flame wars, those little "This User was Warned for this post (click here to see)." things that seem to be rather regular in the larger ME3 ending threads.

Oh cool... So have they added the True Ending where you headshot the Star Child and go on a Gurren Lagann inspired badass speech and mecha rampage? That honestly would be in line with the theme of the game.

The ending to ME3 was so off with the theme of the entire game... Maybe this can kinda maybe fix some of that? Not just adding some slideshows at the end are they? I can't be arsed going through that interview... Too much bullshit to have to handle.

Still I bet someone will rage over how they made the ending worse or how they didn't make it better enough.

Oh god this site's forums are going to be in pieces again aren't they? 50 threads a day here we come!

I'm pretty sure I've said all I had to say about the endings in previous threads but I will add one thing here:

I do find it promising that they've announced the release date very close to the release. That makes it sound to me like they've been working on it almost non-stop up until very recently and really wanted to get it out. Either that means it's a damage control measure, or they actually think people will really want to see it.

Either way, if it doesn't confirm the indoctrination theory I'm just going to pretend it never happened.

I don't have much hope that the EC will improve anything, really. All I ask is that it not expresslly disprove the indoctrination theory.

Woo! Double Birthday DLC Surprise!

Anyway... yeah, I'm pretty excited about both the Extended Cut for it to be good or otherwise (the rage will be fantastic if it is somehow worse than the original) and Dawnguard.

I'm very cautiously optimistic about it. I figure that any clarification BW offers at this point can only help the ending. My biggest gripe with the original ending (aside from the massive plot holes) was the Normandy crash-landing, so that's the main thing I want to see expanded on.

That would be so ridiculously awesome I'd forgive Bioware for the original ending.

Look on the bright side, the extended cut can't possibly make the ending any worse.

Oh yes it can, they can introduce another useless character and break even more of their own lore. I hope they don't, but anything is possible with bioware. They're hit and miss these days. I'm more looking forward to Dawnguard.

So, are we actually getting some closure. Or will this just be another End of Evangelion thing?

From what they have said about it, I highly doubt that they can satisfy anyone who was unsatisfied with the original ending. Seeing as Bioware has said that they will "expand" on the ending, instead of changing it, I'm pretty sure that this won't offer much more closure than the original ending. At least, not to those who didn't care for it in the first place.

Problem is they seem to be remarkably good at tuning out the people with legitimate grievances too

I gaurentee in this new content Shepard is going to get knocked out (possibly during the Cerberus base mission) and he's going to see the Star Child in his dream and the kids going to explain what he is and more about the Reapers. Then, later when Shepard meets the Star Child in person, their will be some new lines of dialogue and (if were lucky) a new choice in the dialogue tree.
