Ok if you have not seen the 1990 TV series Babylon 5 I suggest you do so. Lets line up all the Ridiculous similarities in mass effect 3 shall we. This probably has been pointed out before but I think maybe not on these forums.

This is not a flame thread, I actually liked Mass effect 3 (not up to ending yet :D).

1.John Sherridan is the name of the main character a human from earth alliance
John Sheppard main character in mass effect 3

2.Both alliance uniforms are almost identical, blue attire gold trim.

3. John sherridan is part of an alien space station for diplomatic reasons (citadel) he creates an alliance of all the other alien races to fight off an ancient enemy (reapers) called the shadows. There are another ancient species of aliens called the Vorlons (protheons bad spelling) who determined to help evolution enhance itself through order.

4. The Narn and Centuri are alien races that hate each other, the Centauri taught the narns about technology and raised them into a slave culture to take all their resources. Similar to Krogan and Salarian/Taurian (cen-Taurian?).

5. The Space station Council is vastly similar to the citadel council in that 5 major powers (with earth as the earliest member) and a body of member nations.

6. There are Telepaths in Babalon 5 that possess the ability to read peoples minds, the radical side of government abuses them to create the Psycore. Similar to Jack biotic abuse with ceberus.

7. The Shadows have various dark allies that use these creatures to attach to other creatures and force powerful figures of their enemies to take actions that favor their plans. Similar to Harbinger and the Collectors.

Ok I am sure I can label a few more but Ill put this video up if you have never watched the show being an avid fan ill put up one of my favorite scenes. You can see a lot of the uniforms and council ect is why I also chose this vid to keep it relevant.

Good points, not the only place they borrowed from though.

Take the quarians, for example - kicked off their home planet by the race of machines they created, and forced to live on a flotilla of space ships. Just like... the human race in Battlestar Galactica?

Or how every voice actor either appeared on BSG, Farscape, Star Trek, the Matrix, and Firefly?
(Even Chakwas was on Star Trek. Her VA played a Romulan)

Don't forget that one of the main characters of Stargate Atlantis is Lieutenant-Colonel John Sheppard. Sound familiar?

You do realise those are all very token Sci-Fi cliches that are in nearly every Sci-Fi show/film/game/book etc one way or another?

Token? they are seven distinct points, the psi core use telepathy aka their minds exactly the same as the biotic humans who are abused? It is a massive string of points like the uniforms they could of been grey or red like star trek but they chose to make a navy blue with gold trim and call themselves the alliance exactly the same as babylon 5.

Really I can understand subtle cliche but then there is crossing the line.

1. Shepard doesn't even have a first name
2. Based on naval uniforms, doesn't look much different to the uniforms in Battlestar Galactica ether.
3. DSN, TNG and Star Wars expanded universe (The Vong)
4. Gives species tech and ends in disaster? See Klingons.
5. A space council? Like the United Federation of Planets? Or the Galactic Republic?
6. 'Lets try and weaponize something uncontrollable, because that can't go wrong!' A plot line somewhere in every Sci-Fi franchise, ever. Telepathic powers are hardly something new as well.
7. Not much unlike the most hilarious and terrible plot line from TNG in the first season?

One of the reasons for Mass Effects success is that it's creation was influenced by so many classic Sci-Fi cliches that it was bound to go down well with most Sci-Fi fans. This is hardly a new thing.

False. Commander Shepard's first name is Cassandra and she is a woman. Get your facts straight.
