I just went at every mofo with my Geth plasma shotgun.
Bitches didn't stand a chance.

Nova + Charge + Heavy Melee + Shotgun = Godzilla in Shepard form

Yes another ME3 thread and NO not a ***** session about the endings.

Just a thread to discuss what no-one seems to have talked about.

What was your favorite weapon in ME3 and what made it special for you?

Mine was the Scorpion hand gun that shot out little mass balls that stuck to the enemy's and then explode! I never used any other weapon once I found that little gun!
I'm kind of limited on this one as I played a power heavy biotic on my first goody two shoes run through so I typically carried no more on me then a pistol and assault rifle and then only used them while waiting the 2 secs for My warp to recharge that said I did fall for the old carnifax(spelling?) hand cannon towards the end of the game with armor piercing bullets and an initial warp I could generally take down a brute in a clip.

My inner Pyro had a brief but passionate affair with the flame thrower during the rachni level but due to its limited availability it didn't last

I loved Mass Effect 3's version of the Viper. I always loved the look of the gun in ME2 but hated the damage output. In ME3 it's possible (though only just!) to squeeze out enough damage output to one-hit-kill enemies, even on Insanity (all armour and Liara's research focused on +headshot and +weapon damage, the weapon itself being upgraded a couple of times before being given the extended barrel and concentration mod, fully upgraded Warp Ammo as your extra power and, obviously, landing a headshot). With a six shot clip and an amazing rate of fire you can essentially remove an encounter's basic infantry before the fighting begins, then it only takes two shots to take out each centurion or marauder leaving only the bigger things like turrets, brutes or banshees as real problems.

I used the mattock and the locust, except I only used it like twice throughout the entire game. (the locust that is)
I was an adept so basically never ran out of ammo for the mattock.

The two that I ran with were:

Paladin V (Pistol)
Extended Barrel + Extended Magazine

Viper V (Sniper Rifle)
Extended Barrel + Concentration Mod

The Paladin hits like a truck, especially if you can apply warp ammo to it. The Viper didn't seem as good as it was in ME 2, I wouldn't use it if I played the game again.

Multiplayer or singleplayer?

With my Soldier Shepard I ran around with the Revenant or Phaeston (the later is probably the better stat-wise, but I always end up doing better with the Revenant) for the sheer number of rounds I could put downrange at close range with adrenaline rush, heck, they were even good at longer ranges if you fired them from cover. I'm a big fan of suppressive fire, and those two guns work wonders together.
He even had the Raptor sniper rifle for longer ranges working under the same principle, many shots downrange meant the enemy couldn't respond, no matter if they died to the first shot or not.

My engineer Shepard on the other hand prefers a light phalanx pistol and the either a heavily upgraded phaeston (mostly to reduce weight) or tempest, she relies on her powers much more, using the guns as a way to finish the enemy or pin them for a incinerate or overload.

Multiplayer is a whole different beast though.

The Carnifex, Phalanx, and Paladin are all beasts with a magazine upgrade, and stick a scope on any of them and you have a really lightweight sniper rifle. I'm also a huge fan of the Tempest, not sure why, but it tends to agree with me. And with a heat sink and magazine upgrade it becomes an endless bullet hose.
You sir, know your weapons. :)
Yes, I especially like the phalanx due to it's lighter weight in multiplayer. And the Tempest is absolutely great with those upgrades, shoot it from cover and it's good at even long ranges, get out of cover and you can stay mobile and spray into the enemy at short ranges.

I've also been running around with an engineer and adept sporting an Avenger with stability modifier and extended barrel, it's so light and stable I have no problem placing a steady stream of shots with it while at the same time having my powers easily avaible.

My human soldier on the other hand have taken to running around with a stabilized and scoped (until I get the ammo extension upgrade) Revenant, and is doing surprisingly well with it and the quickly recharging concussive shot.

And I must say, it's fun to see in the game that everyone aren't running around with the same gun, it shows there isn't one gun to conquer them all...

Black Widow is up there, but I think I liked it's counterpart a bit more. It was a worse gun in most ways... single shot gun, low ammo (11 total shots unupgraded), and things like that. But it was lighter, more powerful, and... well, it was my first. You never forget your first after all. I believe it was the M-92.

My fav combo ended up being:

Falcon + scope. Chewed through oncoming groups with ease (especially with incendiary rounds).

Hornet + lightweight. Great for general encounters and quick targeting.

AT12 Raider shotgun. Like a double barrel shotgun. Great for clearing rooms; would pop out of cover, deliver the double whammy and then pop back into cover for a reload in less than a second.

Also liked the Mattock, Valkyrie, Plasma shotgun, Geth sniper, N7 sniper and Raptor.

The Black Widow Rifle. All that head-explodey goodness, and I was playing as a soldier! I'm thinking my Infiltrator playthrough is going to be a whole lot more fun in this game. Assuming the ending doesn't remove the replay value of the game before I get that far, anyway.

Of course, other weapons deserve honourable mention. The Avenger rifle was a good reliable gun that lasted me up until the last mission on Rannoch, at which point it was finally topped by the Geth assault rifle. In ME2 one of my favourite guns was the Carnifex, which served as a handy little long range weapon when the Widow ran dry. In my Soldier playthrough though, I didn't get any use for it as the Geth Rifle just laid down ridiculous amounts of firepower with little need for accuracy. The good part just before the ending reminded me of why I liked that pistol though.

Dont know the name, but the pistol you get right at the start. Its one of the first weapons you have.

And its the best weapon in the game. Not even kidding. You know why? It has no firecap. It will shoot as fast as you spam the trigger/the left mouse button. For a seasoned, mature, pro, handsome and charismatic FPS player like me, that means I basically spent the whole game unloading the 15 round clip in something like 2 seconds to massive reaper dismay.

Good going Bioware.
Have you tried the Mattock? It pretty much does the same thing, reloads quickly, and is nigh unstoppable with piercing mods and either Incendiary or Warp ammo.
I did, and it was my weapon of choice after the pistol. It does have a fire cap though. Still, if you can click fast enough, it outclasses all the other ARs by far.
Definitely. That, and I just prefer semi-auto rifles anyways. More punch and more accuracy. And I didn't think that the Mattock had a fire cap. At least it didn't feel like it.

M-96 Mattock

M-98 Widow

upgraded to 10, both of these are amazingly deadly!
This. Except I favored the Raptor for my sniper rifle. Not the best damage in the world, but when I needed to take a brute down, and my Mattock was running low, Raptor plus Warp ammo equals UBER OWNAGE.

By the way, how do you upgrade a weapon to level 10? Do you need to be a certain level first?
you have to start a second playthrough with your character, complete the game then import your ME3 character, you'll start with all the guns you had in your first playthrough so you can continue upgrading them at the armoury.
I figured it had to be a new game + or something. Thanks!

Trust me, it's well worth it. I was playing some multiplayer last night with a friend who never really even liked sniping, now the Black Widow is his favorite weapon. :p
