Wrex
Liara - Companion
Ashley/Kaiden - Companion

Garrus - Companion
Tali - Companion
Miranda - Companion
Jacob
Jack - Companion
Grunt - Compaion
Zaeed
Kasumi
Legion - Companion
Thane
Samara/Morinth
Mordin

James Sanders - Companion

That's my reckoning.

Edit: The only one I'm iffy on is Jack. They've talked about her but that could just be about her as an NPC, but I think they'll keep the in-your-face fighter female for political reasons. I'd prefer Mordin and/or Wrex and/or Zaeed but I don't think it'll happen.

I know he'll probably be dead, but I'd love for Thane to be back. Besides, he was my love interest in my femshep playthrough. I want Jacob and Miranda gone. They are too damn bland to be in ME3. I know that this won't happen due to her being dlc and all, but I'd love to see Kasumi as a romance option. Zaeed and Samara won't return, I can guarantee that.

Yeah, Thane'll probably be dead. Other than that, I can't say. I sure hope Kasumi's returning, and as a possible love interest to boot (but she is a DLC character so... probably not :/).

she so funny man i always like her lines

Wrex/Grunt - Yes for Wrex if alive, if not, Grunt becomes your companion.
Liara - Doubtful as a companion, but without a doubt an ally.
Ashley/Kaiden - Yes
Garrus - Yes
Tali - Yes
Miranda - Hoping not
Jacob - Also hoping not
Jack - Maybe
Zaeed/Kasumi - One of them, but not the other.
Legion - Yes
Thane - Yes
Samara/Morinth - Yes
Mordin - I hope.

I hope Legion will return as, for my money, he's the most interesting squaddie other than Wrex (sorry, Garrus). There's also the fact that, even if he carked it on the suicide mission, he could still potentially be uploaded to a different "platform," which makes him more plot-durable than others in ME2.

Some characters might be non-playable NPCs.

I could see Mordin sitting in the lab the whole game, making stuff for you instead of going out on missions. That way he'd be around like Joker and Chakawas, but not part of the action.

Same for Legion. Maybe it will be a contact person with the Geth?

Also, I thought Jack was confirmed for the party in the same news announcement as the smaller party size.

I'm going with legion being gone.
If Legion is gone I'll cry.

If Jacob isn't gone I'll cry.

If Tali is there, I hope they've at least made it so she doesn't use the phrase "my people" like most people use commas.

not sure who won't be back, but it can't be long until they announce Blasto the Hanar as a squadmate.

Ashley/Kaiden
Garrus
Tali
Liara

Are probably guaranteed back. Everyone else, with the exception of the DLC characters, could go either way. I'd be fine with having some of the characters as non playable provided I can keep interacting with them throughout the game, have them hang around the ship maybe? As long as they aren't treated like Ashley/Kaiden/Liara pre Lair of the Shadow Broker then i'll be fine.

I'm really, really hoping that Jack makes a return though.

I hope Thane comes back, Mordin too, but it seems unlikely, so I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm hoping BioWare makes at least one Pulp Fiction joke. That would make a small part of the game for me.

I think Legion has been confirmed to appear. I don't know if he is a guaranteed squad mate though. Also I'm pretty sure Miranda has been relegated to non-combat supporting character.

Garrus, Liara and Ashley/Kaidan are confirmed squad members. Tali has been "confirmed" by a magazine but not officially confirmed. Mordin, Legion, Wrex and Anderson are party members for at least one mission, I believe. The rest is up in the air.

I'm happy Liara, Garrus and Tali are more-or-less confirmed; I'm certainly hoping Mordin and Legion join the list. Wrex would be pretty nice, but I think he's going to end up being an extremely important NPC, to be honest.

Also, personally, I think the best thing to do with Thane would be to make him the star of his own sidequest - specifically, a sidequest in which he dies. I'd love to see a serious, emotional side story about the death of a friend (or, for some players, a bit more than a friend). Besides, anything else would be a cop-out. All his character development in ME2 related to his imminent death.

Also, Captcha is "demanding edones". Hm.

Legion has to be back for at least the Geth/Quarian conflict missions. It wouldn't make sense for him not to, provided he survived.

I figure Legion would be easy to add in, there are about a thousand of him/them. Unless they concluded that Shepard was not worth following, even if he/it died in the suicide mission, they could probably calculate that sending another to help you combat the Reapers would be in their collective best interest.

Jack would likely get arrested again or something, or go hide in a corner like the scared little girl she's desperately trying to conceal.

If memory serves, Mordin said he was in his waning years early on, not a good sign for his vitality, maybe his apparently troubled conscience.

For a new squad member, a Volus might be funny. (those short little fuckers in suits, like stocky quarians)
