Most people generally agree that ME2 was a huge improvement on the first game. This is due to an overhaul on how the combat system works and how they implemented the RPG elements. The only thing that is generally disliked was the planet scanner in lieu of the mako, which really was a moot point in my opinion. I think the story was a good progression from where the first left off and left us with a great set up into the third.

That being said, will the third be a better game? If everything were kept essentially the same but the story would it be considered a success? Sequels of games are usually considered worse if it is the same game because it's not "groundbreaking". I know that this seems to be the case in the Bioshock 2 reviews. People are generally unhappy they didn't add anything. So if everything is kept the same but the story is an amazing conclusion will it be considered better?

If they need to change certain things to tweak the game further, what will it be? How can bioware make Mass Effect 3 a better game?

it will be great because unlike most sequels, these sequels were planned from the get go. Story wise, this is what everything was leading up to. The development has all been building to something, as opposed to most sequels, which have story shoehorned into them.

Wrex! They need to add Wrex back as a party member.
And I'd like a bit more RPG elements, more guns, more armor, more RPG like system of leveling up.

And ditch the planet scanning, I found it more tolerable than the Mako, but apparently enough people didn't like it to stir up a good sized ***** fest.

ME2 made the shooter elements much better, but basically didn't even bother being an RPG anymore. I hope ME3 will bring a bit of balance to that. Keep the shooting good, but add some real customization, equipment management and skill trees.

Well, imo, they could work with the 'minigames' to unlock/bypass things. It got a bit repetitive after a while. I'd love to see them keep the storyline progression going, and where choices you make show results in ME3 like they did in ME2.

I would also like to see the team carry over as well. I enjoy the ME2 crew a lot, but the addition of new members would be welcomed as long as not too many of the old ones are lost. Carrying over the effect of romances would be nice as well, for those that stayed true to the love from ME1 or the new ones forged in ME2.

Adding more skills/powers might be good along with added weapons/armor. If they could somehow pull off a well done ship fighting segment, I think I would like that as a tweak. But in all honestly they don't need to add that much to make me happy. As long as I get to kick the Reapers in their big metal butts, I'll be thrilled.

They don't need to change anything substantial, but as far as gameplay is concerned, the addition of a few new skills, or powers, as the game calls them, to every class won't be too bad. I would also very much like to be able to continue with my lvl 30 ME2 Shepard, and progress from there forward.

The planet scanner wasn't all that bad in my opinion, but they could do better than that: how about exploration missions where you simply zone in on mercenary group activities and take them out, stealing their cargo for your own use (getting the metals you need for upgrades; stealing their research to unlock upgrades, etc). Missions involving the Mako (or the new Hammerhead) will be welcome. I actually loved rolling around in that thing (not for random exploration, but for specific missions), ruining people's shit.

Variety in some of the missions was lacking for ME2. I figure 70% of the recruitment/loyalty missions involved the following in order: some talking, combat, incidental but inconsequential dialogue interspersed with combat, and final dialogue with clear paragon/renegade choices, bringing the mission to a close. This system is fine if it occurs twice, but after a while, the game became rather predictable. I enjoyed Samara and Thane's loyalty missions because they stayed away from this conventional pattern and exhibited some creativity. Bioware is capable of great stuff when they decide to do it, but sometimes their creativity bars run low.

Also, Shepard's voice acting sucks my nutsack. He displays little passion or discretion at some critical moments, and those stick out like a sore thumb. This isn't a major issue, though.

Other than that, the graphics are fine, and the combat system is engaging. The story is great.

Do you ever wonder if Bioware intentionally left RPG elements out of ME2, so they could bring them back in ME3 and have everyone praise it for having good shooting and RPG elements? That would certainly be interesting.
More realistically though, they need to combine the vast amount of knowledge you gain in the first game with the deep relationships you build in the second.

If they made put in equipment and loot this time around I might actually like it.

As long as they don't come up with a reason to get rid of your squad again and force you to start from scratch with all NEW people, I'm sure the game will be fantastic.

That'd be pretty lame, especially considering ME2 was 90% about getting to know your crew.

Exactly my point. I don't WANT my friends to go away, I want to get to know them better!
This is Bioware though; I trust them enough to make the right decision here :)

I agree, I actually like Grunt and Thane. If they keep any crews members, they would still have to add new ones to add to the story. ME2 would have been somewhat dull if you continued with just your original crew.

I'm sure they'll change it up somewhat. Here's my thoughts:

Garrus: Will most likely stay with Shepard, given their past history. Or, Garrus will try for Spectre status.
Tali: Will definitely stay with Shepard; "Tali'Zorah vas Normandy" is a pretty obvious indicator of that. (Plus, I romanced her so hey)
Miranda: After quitting Cerberus, will either stay with Shepard or go off to spend more time with her sister.
Jacob: No fucking clue what's going to happen to him.
Mordin: Most likely will open a clinic somewhere and/or resume study on the Krogan Genophage
Grunt: Shepard is his "battlemaster," so Grunt will likely stay.
Thane: Most likely will go to spend his remaining time with his son.
Jack: Also, no idea.
Legion: Will likely go back to the Geth in the Veil and rally them to fight against the Reapers.
Samara: Her loyalty to Shepard has run its course and she will likely move on.
Zaeed: He's a mercenary so he'll probably jump ship too.

So, that leaves us with Garrus, Tali and Grunt as "99.9% definite) and the rest are uncertain.

I'd like there to be some new characters though, and one or two old ones from ME1.

Though that makes too much characters for just one game... It'd be nice if you could only get that many on one playthrough, depending on your choices. Would give much more replay value.
For example, siding with the Alliance during some key moment would get you Kaidan or Ashley, while helping Cerberus would make Miranda or Jacob come back.
Or helping Cerberus to keep humanity's dominance strong would earn you the trust of a patriotic human character, but distance a (possibly also patriotic) alien character whose kind got weakened because of it, while being indiscriminate about who should lead the galaxy would do the opposite.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how Bioware is gonna handle the dead Shepard scenario's. I also fear that your team from ME2 will not have too much of an impact in ME3. If only cause any of 'em can die in the suicide mission but I could see Bioware doing with them what they did to Wrex in that he just got a lame substitute.
The first part is easy: You can't import a file to ME3 if Shepard died in it. They tell you that in ME2.

As for how much of your crew is going to survive the transition... I dunno. I concur, it seems odd that ME2 had an enormous amount of content focused around obtaining and solidifying relationships with your crew, only to have them be replaced in ME3...

Well can you imgain the work required to have a story fit each one of our own unique game? like I had four people die. (sadface) so they would have to create a story based around those four dead people and how other characters reacted to their deaths. Lets say some people had an completely other set of crew members die. then they would have a completely differnt game from the one I would be getting. It would take so much time and probably screw everything up.

Also make exploration not required for people to not die. I hated scanning planets, so I didnt. Now half my crew died because I didnt want to hold the left trigger down for 5 minutes while staring at one boring ass planet after another. let the planet exploring be a reward but dont punish those who couldnt give a flying fuck.

damn well writing this makes me feel really bad, Im gonna have to play the game again to save every one. *except Jack
