oh my... this guy is actually very good. But does he rip on the intellect side, or more on the politician side? That would provide major entertainment, the latter, that is.

That's the big problem here. While those of us who have even a glimmer of interest in games know that this guy is full of baloney, the conservative parent-ish folks that visit that blog? Not so much. They DON'T know any better. They've been listening to pundits and politicians yammer on about the evils of modern media and videogames for so long, that this sort of poppycock? It sounds BELIEVEABLE. When they already assume the worst, it's easy to believe that the ever-reviled game companies are sticking hard-core porno in innocent video games that are for OUR CHILDREN!

They don't realize that games are made that AREN'T for children. Nor do they realize that the rating system indicates clearly that the game isn't for children. And hey, they don't even have the ability or compunction to actually play the game and find out what a pack of lies they're being fed.

So what REALLY makes Mr. McCullough's rant revolting isn't the "liar liar pants on fire" aspect, but that he's lying to gain attention for himself and to further a questionable censorship-focused political agenda. I can take comfort in that for all the folk that do choose to believe him at first, there are some who are stopping and going "now wait a second", and actually engaging those big, useful brains that God gave 'em. If only everyone would do that.

Mass entertainment is the devil: Part 1 Bazillion. Why do we discuss the crap out of this knowing it's just ignorant buffoons seeking mass media attention? The sooner we start ignoring them, the better.

Some idiots should be ignored, because they're harmless. I.. suspect that this guy is one of the more harmless sorts, considering that he's a big of a right-wing frootloop to begin with. But still, bad information ought to be countered with good, right, smart information!

Standing around shaking your head and going "dude" can be fun too, though.

I notice he is not calling out America's Army for violence. Strange how sex always gets people ruffled.
I might actually point out a particular line in his "article" (HEAVY use of sarcasm quotes there):
""Mass Effect" sounds like a war game with a deadly virus that is spreading unless the GI-Joes are able to defeat the evil and deadly substance and it's covert war plan. By it's design, kids could ask for it, or for their parents' Best Buy Card to go purchase it with nary a raised eye-brow. Generic, non-descriptive, and relatively harmless."
REMEMBER, KIDS! WAR GOOD, SEX BAD!

I've come to learn that when you're "debating" on the Internet? You aren't necessarily arguing with your opponent. It's highly unlikely in most cases that you are going to convince him, or that he is going to convince you. So, why bother saying anything at all?

There's an AUDIENCE. Yes, all you rubberneckers following the links, all the lurkers and wanderers... those are the audience for your debate. For the argument. They may not have made up their minds yet. They could actually stand to be informed of the opposite opinion, or to have the matter clarified. They might learn something!

So I guess arguing with an idiot on the Internet is a bit like throwing yourself on a stupidity grenade, for the benefit of the bystanders.

We now have someone who is officially worse than Jack Thompson... I didn't think that was humanly possible.

Yeah. Pretty much. I'm certainly not insulting McWipp, in case that wasn't clear, and I understand his sentiment. Unfortunately, people like this are just using controversy to get a little fame and recognition. I just feel we're giving this guy, Jack Thompson, and the rest of these people exactly what they crave: attention. These loons are gonna have to rewrite the First Amendment if they have any real chance to have video games taken off the market.

Goddamned. I just got done reading the piece, and then his post in response to the many insults from outraged gamers he has recieved.

I cannot believe what I read. How... Just how can...

...

What?

Why is it an atrocity to be able to customize a character? Why was he under the impression that you were able to customize breast size? I want to know where he got his information from. It couldn't be from playing the game, or from his "gamer friends" he supposedly checked with. I wasn't aware that I was able to sodomize everyone and everything in sight, regardless of gender. I remember a brief conversation, a second or two of bare ass, and then some bare shoulders and sultry looks. I don't recall watching them couple like a pair of jackrabbits.

I would also like to point out that there isn't any actual homosexual sex in the game. I know that this may appear so to someone just stumbling in on the situation, but the humanoid alien has no actual gender according to the game's backstory. I know that this is inconsequential, as a result of the alien in question looking extrodinarily like a female, but it drives the point home that he didn't actually play the game even further. He prattles on about homosexual sex like he gets payed by the word. I also liked this little nugget of ignorance:

"...it does not take a great deal of manipulation to add a few extra "kinks" to the mix for those who know a little bit about such things."

I wasn't aware of this. I don't recall being able to do anything but just sit there and watch the pre-determined cutscene and wait for it to end. Again, the question of where the Hell he is getting this information from is raised. He has "gamer" sources, which most likely are consisting only of Youtube videos, which he admits to at least twice in his post. That's right, you read that right, a lot of his outrages (on the topic of these acts of sodomy that you can just carry out whenever) stem from watching Youtube videos.

He links to the videos that showed him how disgusting and terrible the sex scenes were.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVyH02GzDGQ

Come on, I can watch TV and see something raunchier than that.

How do dumbasses like this manage to breathe?

[Yeah, I realize the nerd nugget of information regarding the alien is moot. Just thought I'd put it out there.]

This guy is about a popular and well know as the hair by the mole on my ass. Ignore him.

Maybe I should forward him a link to the Illusion website.. nothing like a good old eroje game to get the shlong blood pumping and see excrutiatingly vivid depictions of sodomy.

Those silly japanese...

This still doesn't top the anti D&D propaganda which claimed (as best as I can remember) "Players play nonhuman characters who are expected to rape and murder at every oppurtunity." ^_^
