God dammit- this again?
Seriously though, couldn't they at least pick another more realistic game to scapegoat if they had to blame a game? Mass Effect is set in a science fiction universe for God's sake- a universe where there's barely any children for that matter.

I like that nobody has liked this page yet.

Smells a bit like trolls though.

Did the shooter use biotics or something?

How is him liking Mass Effect relevant at all?
It's simple really. People are upset, and he liked it. Therefore it is to blame. Because reasons.

Did that clear things up for you?

I want to track down each of these people and say "Games don't kill people, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. If you don't agree with that then I ASSUME you also think the guns are at fault, too, right?"

This is just plain retarded. I'm sorry.

Also, this poor kid's life is fucked. Even if they make a full on media apology and say "it wasn't him, it was his brother", he will forever be marked as "the shooter" even though he didn't do it. This is not how fucking social media is supposed to be used. *frustrated rant*
I was almost about to actually do that, message one of those people and write "are you the person who posted "Such and such"? If so, on behalf of the internet, you are a moron."

Couldn't do it though. Seems to mean, and I'm still feeling quite distraught over the whole mess.

I always read that in the voice of Gabriel Angelos.

OT: There is no rageface comic big enough to suffice for my level of anger at how stupid people are.

How sad is it that the genocidal fascist future dictators have more common sense than the people instigating this argument?

I think I saw... two intelligent people in their. Just two.

So, not only are they blaming this game and its entire development team for the shooting, but they've also got the wrong person? Wow...

Doom was blamed for the Columbine shooting, but this is even more stupid.

If when people play games about other people shooting aliens in the face that want to take over the world somehow makes these people playing them become deranged assassins, we'd have countless shootings every day! It's not the game that's the problem. It's his own personal problems. If Mass Effect was to blame, then everyone who's played it would be like this. The fact that this is even news is more than enough to say that these games don't make people violent.

God that ending must have been a lot worse than I remember.

In his defense I'd kill the eldar, tyranids, and orks as well so he's not a bad guy.

Also through a little facebook research it seems Ryan Lanza also liked Guns N Roses, quickly we must ban them!

What are your thoughts on this?
My thoughts on this? People seem to be blatantly ignorant of statistics.

Mass Effect has so far sold 3.5 million copies worldwide, so it's a pretty safe bet that approximately 5 million people or more have played this game (with household sharing and used copies). If what these knee-jerk reactionists believe about ME3 turning people people into mindless killing machines is true, then the the world's population should have dropped by 50-150 million (averaging at 20 people dead per killer +/- 50%) leading to one of the singular greatest tragedies in Earth's history.

But that's not the case is it? there's only one person who went crazy and killed some people, and a sad and tragic a thing as that is, my first reaction to what this guy did is not "the game he played turned him evil", it's "this **** be crazy". Seriously, even if ME3 was the trigger, the man is a psychopath. Anything on this planet could have triggered this killing frenzy. He could have had a bad day at work, or he maybe mixed his meds or hell, the sky could have been a bit too blue for his liking. And just because his trigger happened to be a game that he played does not mean that the person wasn't insane to begin with. Mental instabilities like that do not just pop up in a week. They usually form over years if not decades and are incredibly hard to treat.

And if what Andy Shandy and others said on this thread about the killer people the ME3 fan's brother then this whole debacle is even more disgusting. It really shows how much stupidity and blind ignorance still exists and this world. Without a single scrap of solid evidence or founded truth, a lynch mob of hundreds of people formed and are effectively burning ME3 at the stake with no trial. Frankly, I'm ashamed that people like this still exist in the world.

I heard he ate at McDonalds last week. RONALD MCDONALD KILLED THOSE KIDS!!

Seriously, at least with Doom and Columbine you had evidence that the perpetrators were avid fans. This is scapegoating, there is absolutely no other way to look at it.

Oh it could've possibly be the guy was just a psychopath, nope it's gotta be Mass Effect. Always has to be a scapegoat, doesn't there?

There are moments in which I start to believe that humanity is primarily guided by rational thought...but then I read something like this and realize just how stupid a large percentage of the population actually is...

This.

People may disagree with me when I assert that the "ban this sick filth" crowd have some reasoning behind their actions bt they don't just point at games randomly and say thats what made little Timmy set fire to Dubai, they usually have some "evidence": how could Mass Effect have possibly influenced this?

Personally I blame the Quarians.
