It's not the most original out there, but its characters, setting and plot have stuck with me, and I've never felt as connected or entrenched in a story, so that's got to count for something.
Mafia was an awesome game. You're right.Keivz said:I always thought Mafia had the most well executed story of any videogame. Sure it was predictable, but the execution was flawless. I actually thought that the whole 'the reapers are the real bad guys and Saren's just a pawn' plot point could have been better executed, perhaps with more foreshadowing. I also thought that there were too many excuses as to why the reapers had to go through all the trouble of recruiting Saren (and, for that matter, leaving the local galaxies only to come back again). The reapers where kind of uninspired characters as well. Still a great game though.
True that.RebelRising said:It's not the most original out there, but its characters, setting and plot have stuck with me, and I've never felt as conected or entrenched in a story, so that's got to count for something.
I first ran into you on my Mass Effect 2 trailer (NOT REAL, guys!) thread, so I can always count on you to be loving on Mass Effect as much as me.orannis62 said:True that.RebelRising said:It's not the most original out there, but its characters, setting and plot have stuck with me, and I've never felt as conected or entrenched in a story, so that's got to count for something.
EDIT:I loved it, probably my favorite game ever. But, looking at my avatar, you probably knew that.
Well I think mass effect is one of the most imersive games ever, which for me makes up for the combat being a little crappy. Still its definatly one of the best rpgs ever. My best game of all time is (Crimson Skies High Road to Revenge.) Great story, combat, and great multyplayer. That my opinion though. Mass effect two is going to have coop, and you get to carry the storyline of with your charater from mass effect 1. I think mass effect 2 will fix all these problems. If you wan't to learn more go to ign they have an article on it.HeroOfIsengard said:When I first thought to post this I to to heart my own personal opinions, I mean, Mass Effect stands as number two in my top three games of all time. So I was wondering if this could just be a relection of my personal opinion of the game. But I honestly believe Mass Effect has the BEST story line out of any game ever produced in the history of gaming, Sure it might not be as original as Conker or NeverWinter Nights, but the absolute shift from Saren being the bad guy to the Reapers was done so well and everything just fit together so well, what do you guys think?
Oh yeah. If memory serves, you had a Garrus avatar at the time, and the thread devolved into who was better: Nihlus or Garrus.RebelRising said:I first ran into you on my Mass Effect 2 trailer (NOT REAL, guys!) thread, so I can always count on you to be loving on Mass Effect as much as me.orannis62 said:True that.RebelRising said:It's not the most original out there, but its characters, setting and plot have stuck with me, and I've never felt as conected or entrenched in a story, so that's got to count for something.

Then we decided that we hadn't seen a fair display of Nihlus's skill. Then from there it went into Downloadable content ideas, such as a memorial service for said Nihlus.orannis62 said:Oh yeah. Also, Orannis, if you haven't signed up at the Bioware community, you should. There's news sprouting up (from a documentary on the Platinum edition disc) about the second DLC. It sounds interesting.
Good luck finding a good JRPg thoughbad rider said:Personally I prefered final fantasy 9's, but mass effects was good. Oh also Lost odyssey that had a really nice story, but Im a sucker for a good JRPG.
Unfortunatly, TG has been saying "We'll have it done in a few months" for years. I don't want to rush them, and I'd rather it be released bug-free than quickly, but come on!Archaon6044 said:if you get PC version, and wait around for a few monthes, there's a team on modders who are working to fix the ending and make the game it was supposed to be. all the files and stuff are there on the disks, they're just fragmented and not implemented.i just didn't get the ending at all. Didn't the Ebon Hawk...you know... break apart and fall into a chasm when you landed on Malachor V? And yet it's there to pick you up when you beat the game...

Yeah. There's an interesting, focused community for the Bioware games, and I'm eagerly anticipating further Dragon Age news.orannis62 said:Oh? Tell that to Tim Shafer.VaioStreams said:It was probably the best original story done by a western developer.
it was a good game. and i mean just that. probably the best told by a western developer. when you take all the western RPGs and look at them. they focus way to much on this choose your own adventure crap like we're still in grade school. to much open world do what you want crap and less on story. mass effect focused a lot more on story then any other western RPG out there. come bat wasn't to bad. i enjoyed it actually.pigeon_of_doom said:Tell that to Tim Shafer.VaioStreams said:It was probably the best original story done by a western developer.
I quite liked Mass Effect, as the storytelling was very polished (if not the most original). However the combat was very tedious for me, the repetitive sidequests could have contributed to my apathy, but I still think it needs a lot of tweaking for the sequel. Not my favourite game, or game storyline by some distance.
