it'll be the worst movie game adaption since House of the dead. They'll probably have Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as Sheppard, and Megan Fox as Ashley Williams. This movie is going to stink. This is gonna make me feel like the Dragon Ball movie did.......suicidal.

I always thought that the way to do one of these movies was to release multiple versions of it, the way they did with Clue, but not just with different endings, but different beginnings middles and ends, to try and at least capture that little bit of decision making that comes from the game, and have like two or three different Shepards, both male and female. I really didn't think this movie was going to work to begin with, and now with no Seth Green/Joker, I think I'll go cry in a corner for how bad it's going to be

I don't know, FemShep could be seen as a wannabe-Ripley which isn't going to be pretty.

Typically video game movies fail, so it stands to reason that a movie that starts off on such a sour note is going to fail as well. I was likely to see the movie before, and won't now. Hope this casting choice brings in a lot of non-gamer viewers, because they just lost a lot of their core audience.

That's something they've been doing a lot of lately at Bioware, alienating core fans in a poor attempt to widen their market... and failing to do so.

Err, you can play ME online? First I'd heard.

If you mean just playing while connected to the internet, that would go back to my previous questions. WHAT data are they collecting?

Let's try that again:

Slightly at a tangent to the original post but something I would love to know the answer to on the subject of the 20% who play as a female (and it's kinda important when decisions are made based on this statistic):

I haven't seen how Bioware arrived at that statistic. Is it:

1. the % of people who started the game as female?
2. the % of people who finished the game as female?
3. the % of total hours ever played by all players as a female?
4. Other
They gather data from people playing online. If you play a Bioware game while connected to the internet, they're grabbing stats for every move you make.
Errr, you can play ME online? First I'd heard.

If you mean simply that it takes note when you are playing and happen to be connected to the internet, I refer to my oringinal questions again. WHAT data are they collecting?

I'm all for a Mass Effect movie, just not featuring anything to do with the fairly multi-directional games. Plenty of room for plots involving Cerberus, the First Contact War or experiments on Biotics.

I'm definitely not the only one thinking this.
No, you're not the only one. Quite frankly, I think that a movie about the First Contact War would have been the best option for various reasons.

1.)It is an important event in the mass effect universe, but with limited details so this allows the writers a good amount of freedom and creativity. It will also be something new for ME fans rather than a retelling of the games or books.

2)Since it's an important event set before the game, fans will be eager to see it and newcomers do not need to play the games or have any extensive knowledge of them since it's like an origin story.

3)Since it is before the games and has nothing to do with Shepard's early history, the story can be considered canon regardless of the choices ME fans made and therefore the movie won't alienate any of the fans.

The only potential problem is who the movie's protagonist would be. Ashley's grandfather, General Williams, would definitely be in it, but I don't know if he should be the main character. Another important character could be Admiral Kastanie, who led to the fleet that took back Shanxi. There should also be a Turian character to see things from the Turian's side and there could also be a small focus on the Citadel Council as they rush to prevent an all out war between the humans and turians

My big question for the movie is where in the timeline this original story they speak of will take place. Since it will star Shepard, the safest and most logical king of story,IMO, would probably be an origin story that takes place before ME1. The plot could involve one of the three backgrounds you choose for your Shepard character (sole survivor, war hero, or ruthless) and the beginning of the film could be structured around one of the 3 pre-service backgrounds (spacer, colonist, or earth born). While any story about Shepard will piss off some fans, a story placed after ME1 would be a bad idea. Not only would it alienate newcomers it would also risk alienating even more fans, unless the writers manage to find a way to not involve or reference any of the choices the player could have made in ME1.

While the current details about the movie are not the most promising, I'll wait to see more details before I decide to start cursing out this film.
Extremely well put, could not agree more if I tried.
The Illusive Man and Saren would make an appearance - the events happening around them would also shape them to be future villains to the existing fans and newcomers would also be interested to see what roles they play.

I'd be more for this than anything else.
