WTF is this crap? Pertwee is good, I admit, but be honest with yourself: he doesn't hold a candle to Baker. None of the others do, really. :D
This man speaks truly... all those who say otherwise... death by jelly-baby... -_-

OT: Haven't really kept up with the latest Dr Who eps, but what I've seen, Matt Smith brings a certain quirkiness to it. *shrug* s'bout it...

wasn't the reaction to matt smith just a hissy fit by people who started watching with tennant and this was the first transformation for them? and the stupid decision to not not keep anything constant during the change, even changing the TARDIS and changing the showrunner, thus giving the whole thing a feel that was not at all like the previous seasons.
also: i don't wanna go *whine*

oh my favorite doctor would be eccleston

I was forced to watch a few episodes just after he started, later I've seen quite a few of the Tennant ones as well and I honestly can't see what the fuss is about. Smith is a brilliant Doctor, only problem I have is that Tennant is a handsome bastard and I'd prefer to be able to stare at him instead.

Indeed, the only problem with the later seasons is the writing.

Matt Smith is doing a good job, but that's really just my standpoint, can anyone provide me with a tangible argument against him?
That's my opinion. The writing hasn't been very good recently if you ask me. Smith is a touch too silly sometimes, but the problem is more the writing for the companions (and River Song) makes the Doctor look stupid.

Besides, I can't hate Matt Smith. Apparently I look like him. Since the show picked up in the States I get the whole "omg you look like the Doctor" thing at least once a month. Doesn't help that my hair is done the same way... I had it first, though.

I started with Eccleston, and I liked him as well, so my opinion is probably moot, but I think Smith has done a good job so far. Maybe even better than Tennant.

I can't fault the actors (well, except Billie Piper, who was rubbish), they are being consistently made to look bad by crap writing. Not their fault RTD was crap at his job and Moffatt's gotten worse.

I like Matt Smith, the writing is the problem. We used to get Russell T. Davies (The T stands for The Power Of Love) solving everything with good feelings and a happy ray of sunshine. Now we have Steven 'Paradox' Moffat who used to write excellent two-parters but can't seem to write a series.

Moffat is great at having wonderful ideas, like The Empty Child, The Weeping Angels (especially this week's Statue of Liberty, which he does NOTHING with), Vashta Nerada and the Silence, but he can't seem to execute them properly.

Matt Smith is great as the doctor. I just wish the writers were less enamoured with My Superpower Is Heart (Rose Tyler is an especially good/bad example).

As far as I'm concerned, Matt Smith has 3 strikes against him.

a) Smith is not Tom Baker. So, there's that.

b) Smith doesn't have any emotional range beyond "I'm sad". Cue Sterling's Crying through the Laughs [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/6281-Crying-Through-The-Laughs].

c) Smith has the misfortune to have regenerated from Tennant's Doctor, who was the superior Doctor of the reboot.

Also, while not directly about Smith, but I simply can't stand the Ponds. The fact they've been in nearly every one of Smith's episodes hasn't been helping him either.

In all honesty, I really didn't start getting into Doctor Who until Matt Smith took over. I don't know why, but I find his naivety and humour charming, plus it's been a great way for me to bond with my youngest brother, who is just nuts over it right now.

Captcha: Foul Play, oddly relavent considering this is what many doctor fans would have been shouting when he was casted.

Eh, I started with the 10th Doctor, but I like the 9th and the 11th Doctors as well. (Really should looking into the older episodes, though...)

Let's face it. Nearly everyone's favorite New Who Doctor is the one they watched first.
That's why people don't like Smith, and that's why Eccleston should've had another series.

I personally don't like Smith either. Partially because Tennant got killed off a bit too ... radically, what with the new companions and TARDIS. However, I also still can't quite wrap my head around his Doctor. 9 and 10 had very defining personalities ... 11? Entirely different and ... rather bland (oh, and kinda douchey, as opposed to crazy-intelligent)

I started with Eccleston when the reboot premiered in the UK and I found him remarkably dull. Tennant's episodes were, for the most part, nothing short of excellent, but he was too attractive for the role. He made the crazy, the intelligence, and the anger all...well, likeable. Matt Smith puts his feet further across both sides of the line - well until the last season, but let's pretend that one never happened, and while his eccentric nature is certainly more obvious and less socially acceptable, he also makes a far smaller deal about killing people who cross him. If anything, Matt Smith's my favourite Doctor purely because he embodies the Doctor's true self, and his own fierce denial of who he is.

Let's be honest. He's not a nice man. He can, and has, responded to military movements with far more collateral damage than they'd have caused, and justified it with "They were the aggressors." He's a madman and a killer, and where David Tennant made it charming, Matt Smith makes it frightening. Like babysitting a loveable child who murdered their parents.

I can understand what you are saying about Eccleston, but I thought that he was intentionally subdued given that he was the personality who did the dead that ended the Time War. His character seemed to be in the grip of PTSD. I also really liked the episodes after Fathers Day.

I am also biased against Tenant during the specials year, I was really looking forward to a new Doctor. When Matt Smith appeared and did the tasting scene I thought that Matt Smith really owned the role in introduction scene.
