I like it. I'm struggling to say why, but I fucking love it. My first watch left me completely confused, but now I find it's consumed my second monitor and I'm watching/listening on repeat. The animation, the colours, the music. Everything just screams "LOVE ME" at me and I can only respond with "Yes, your Magnificence!"

As for the deeper meaning, it does seem to point towards media addiction. The video itself seems to point specifically to anime, with the initial bit being all unicorns and bubblegum. But the second things start to change you see the protagonist of the video witness the darker side of his obsession. Right to the point where he's forcefed a vision trip. I also found it interesting that the only way he seemed to be in control (when he started to fight back) was to indulge and become a part of it. At first I thought the transformation and FPS sequence was him overcoming it, but it doesn't really seem like it. He hasn't started fighting back, he's given in and that's the start of the seemingly never ending cycle. He can't beat them at their own game, so he gets his ass handed to him and the day starts over.

There's one Youtuber's analysis of the video here He raises a few good points. They video may in fact have a deeper meaning, and I can kind of see it the way he does.

Unfortunately my only reaction was wondering what combination of drugs went into the creation of this thing. I guess I'm not deep enough.

It'd be kinda weird if you were aroused by a girl vomiting bucket loads of semen into your mouth.
If Anno had anything to do with it, then I doubt there's a deeper meaning, and if there is, then its probably drowned out in an ocean of meaningless iconography.

On the one hand, I absolutely LOVE the use of color and the style of animation. I would kill to see this quality of animation and color design matched with a truly great script.

I don't think I like the rest of it. Even as a criticism of the otaku subculture, it's a little odd, and I'm not convinced it works. I wouldn't consider "boob cannons" a particularly subtle or brilliant metaphor, and it seems to go for shock value as much as anything else, meaning that it, in part, relies on the the very imagery it criticizes to be successful.

It does create discussion, though, and that had value in itself. It also made me stop and think about it for a while, so there's that.

Also, did anyone else think of Nikki Minaj?

This is obviously just a poor shilling attempt at selling Evangelion dolls.

10/10 it was ok.

I mean, it looked and sounded great, it really did, but i'm not sure if it was my kind of thing. I have never really been a huge fan of blatant fan service (I mean, this was practically borderline hentai), but if it was intended as some kind of social commentary or whatever, then cool, if not?: typical anime bullshit. It was certainly an experience at the very least anyway, and only slightly cool.

Also, it was pretty cool how the end loops seamlessly to the start. Props for that.

WEll my good sirs, a wee bit disturbing that was. And I mean really disturbing. I know "WTf, Japan, Rest of the World", applies here but that transcends that.

Captcha: coffee mug. Break, take the shards and scrape that stuff out of my brain. Thanks Captcha. Still doesn't save your from your damnation. That date with the flamethrower is still coming

If it was just Anno funding it, I'd discount any deeper message and just say he was throwing stuff that looked "edgy" or "subversive" at the screen just to continue trolling his fans. But with Miyazaki also funding it, I can see this as being a criticism of the anime industry and the Otaku bottom feeders.

I did enjoy some of the visual references to Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine, especially the decapitated head collapsing to the floor.

Looks like my new profile picture is relevant!

Seriously though, I love this music video - The animation is gorgeous, the song is catchy, and has a massage, as opposed to being purely moe garbage or gratuitous tits. I also think it's especially good that the video has a constant repeating loop; a little nod that things really don't seem to be changing whatsoever.

... yeah.
This has only increased my preference for smaller boobs.
Flat is indeed justice!

*Ahem*

Okay, real talk.
It was disturbing and weird. I do not want to know the intentions of such an animations.
But I feel that it combined sadism, lust, and all ecchi that is within the anime industry.

That stuff can give you nightmares!

I did see it and Demo's analysis is pretty much similar to what I was thinking that the video was trying to portray.

I found that video very engaging and I did looked past the fanservice and the craziness happening in it and trying to figure out the deeper meaning behind it and that one fascinated me.

Well since we are all saying our interpretations, might as well weigh in. Just want to say though, I LOVE the animations, music, and colors of this video. I'm not even one for unnecessary fanservice in anime (gigantic boobs just cause! Upskirt shot because why not? This shower scene isn't relevant, but throw it it!), but I managed to look past it here. Now, onto my actual thoughts...

I think the "protagonist" in here dated this pink haired girl however long ago. He's feeling depressed and laying about in his room (a room surrounded with many statue's of Anime ladies, an ashtray for smoking, a poster of the blue haired girl, and a desk for modeling something else Anime/Otaku related). His mind drifts off to this blue haired girl, a probable fantasy of his, one which he enjoys quite a lot if the opening minutes mean anything. I get a sense that perhaps this is sort of maybe his preferred way to think about women in general.

However, his mind drifts back to this pink haired girl, only with a mask. She shows up and pollutes his fantasy, and suddenly its all about Pinky. She sits in this over-sized chair like she is clearly in charge. There is also a brief shot before it ends where you can vaguely see the happy picture of the two together. When he tries to shake this fantasy off, he can't. She's almost forcefully getting in his way to try and think of anything else. The anime statues come to life at this point, all with the same eyes as Pinky's mask.

In the second sequence, we see Pinky quite menacing as before, but also a less subdued version (even to the point where it seems like her menacing nature is an exaggeration and a different person altogether). This version we see the break up with, and our protagonist clearly regrets it (though his past self doesn't seem to give a crap). But the sexual nature of Pinky, her menacing side that we've seen with the mask, is literally eating away at him. But the emotional side brings back all the memories of her that he loves. Perhaps the reason for the breakup was because he was only interested in her sexually, in what she could do or be. So there is a struggle here: he wants Pinky, but is it because he just wants her for her body, or for who she is?

The third/final sequence has him trying to fight and realize that he must love her for who she is. He tries to get past his sexual fantasies of Blue, and is so close to reaching Pinky. But he is just too short, and his sexual feelings towards her, the menacing Pinky, completely swallows his emotional attachments to her. Attacked by Blue and Menacing Pinky, he tries to fight off these thoughts in one last attempt, but in the end he fails. His sexual desires surround him, and while he hates that he is about to give in, he is also just a tiny bit happy, even if it means there being nothing left of him for a stable relationship with the actual Pinky.

Mr.Protagonist had this idea of women, just like Blue and his Anime statues. He tried to make Pinky follow suit to get this idea woman. When that didn't work out, he is left to stew in his own thoughts about his own ways for acting, wondering if he could change, realizing he can't, and going through a repeat cycle trying to find a solution where none exists.

Not sure if that made any sense, and this clearly could have been made to just be exactly what it is, but I guess that's part of the fun right?

Captcha: Open Wide. How...strangely appropriate, but I don't think so after watching this, lol.

I'm never one to decline an offer of fanservice, but that was just weird and a bit gross. Animation was gorgeous, though.

I feel like this is somehow a trailer for Evangleion 4.44(this shit makes no sense) and that is an alternate universe Shinji where Evangleion is just a show. Because Eva is weird his figurines come to life to get his mind and body ready for Evangelion 4.44(What the hell is happening) and the pink haired woman is actually Lilith.

That's my guess anyway.

Well, I suppose as the huge weaboo i am, I should comment on this

Immediate reaction: Well produced, animated, and shot with unique visual flair all adding up to WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WATCH?

Critical analysis: I say it's similar to Hideaki's former criticism of Otaku and self-induced Autsitics. The male clearly left his real life girlfriend for the world of anime, in particular fanservice anime as an escape from women. However, he tries to come back and horrifically fails due to his obsession and he repeats this cycle of remorse and escapism for all time

I certainly think that this type of criticism is needed to be said if only so that we don't have as much head-smashing stupid fanservice and self-insert shows but I do ask why they needed it to be a over the top sex fest instead of a short drama?

Sooo... One assault rifle design equals "filled with references"? All the girls are reflections of one girl in particular and the guy is some sort of slave to his impulses?

Japan's kind of this weird master at sticking really obvious themes under reams and reams and reams of details and metaphors and fanservice.

I dunno. I'm more annoyed by this than anything else, and I don't get how this could blow anyone's mind. Seems like your typical JPop fodder to me. Great animation, sure, the production values are awesome - but isn't that bog-standard for most recognizable Anime production houses?

If I want commentary on the fucked-up nature or relationships, breakups and sexuality, I think I'll stick to Lars Von Trier. At least I can make out heads from tails with this guy.

Well that was certainly amusing. But if it is what some people are saying it is, then my problems with it would stem from both the fact that it's pretty much over-simplifying a more complex issue, and that some of the points it's trying to get across get undermine by how they're executed in the video.

Well it's standard anime fair.
Looks amazing, weird as shit, makes absolutely no sense and soft-core erotica 24/7. They did some animation stuff not usually seen so that is cool, other then that the creator just cobbled together popular anime themes into a mega-mix.

Anno's got this uniquely Anno tick where he can criticize the shit out of otaku culture and yet fully embrace it at the same time. It's awesome. Pretty much the same thing here. Dug the unexpected loop at the end; very clever.
