Although 6... I was pretty sure that Turians are actually supposed to have good gender equality. It`s a shame that none of them show up in the games, but *shrug*

1. Vorcha
2. Quarians
3. Asari
4. Humans
5. Salarians
6. Turians, Krogans

The questions are pretty much pointing at the answers. Might want to try something a bit more open?

You'd be shocked (as I was) how much my class struggled with answering - they had RL groups to answer from - seriously. One put something about the inequity of the prison system as an answer, a whole paragraph.

I love you all for answering - I was so worried I wasn't going to be able to get the other half the data I needed to make this work when I bombed out at Bioware's forums. You are all superiorly awesome.

I wander, what is this survey for, actually? I mean, seeing it concerns Mass Effect (and not Mirror's Edge, as I subtly hoped befor clicking the title).
OMIGOD YES ANOTHER PERSON WHO THINKS 'ME' STANDS FOR MIRROR'S EDGE!!!

...*cough cough*...

A Bit More OT: Seeing as how I was bored by Mass Effect, I can't quite answer your questions. However, I would also recommend looking into Guild Wars 2 as there could be some interesting comparisons that you could make with the races. (...Maybe, as I have only played the game for about 2-3 hours.)

Everyone calling the Asari weak are wrong, by the way.

I don't like asari. I think they're one of the most overrated sci-fi races ever, and take precious time away from Tali's fine ass.
But weak, they are not. Every single one of them is a biotic, so that's giving them the edge against a massive amount of the populace. Otherwise they're about as strong as humans, I believe.

Otherwise I agree with the overwhelming majority.

Judging by the answers I assume you mean species by 'group'? I'm sure every ME species has a roughly equal amount of individuals meeting each of the six descriptions (or would have, if they were real).

This.

EDIT: Oops! I think I should say a bit more in order to avoid getting the "low content" warning. But I don't have anything else to add. I could say that I find it funny how so many people assimilated the same names with the same "stereotypes" (not sure if this grammar is correct; I'm too sleepy to check).

While I understand what you are doing, wouldn't it be better to instead list single attributes that people can associate one of the races? I mean, you are literally writing down exactly how each of the races are described in the games.

Would it be better to break up the different descriptions so that You are able to see how people stereotype them better?
Like this:

1)Violent
2)Low intelligence
3)Strong
4)Without a homeland (I'd say homeless instead because it's not a stereotype that the Quarians, who are obviously being referred to, are without a homeworld. That is a fact.)
5)Resource hoarders,
6)Thieves
7)Loyal
8)Emotional
9)Sensative
10)Weak
11)Job stealers
12)Highly intelligent
13)Timid
14)Technologically adept
15)Reserved
16)Logical
17)Militant

This way, specific stereotypes have a greater chance of being associated with different races. Violent=Vorcha, Krogan, or Batarian, Militant = Humans, Turians, or Krogan. Limit people to one answer and you can see what stereotypes are placed on different races.

Yes, I know I'm being very literal. The idea is to show that there are similarities between the groups in the game and real life groups who are stereotyped. That they do in fact exist. I know for 99% of gamers that's a "duh" kind of thing to establish, but for people who don't play video games and know nothing about them, it's got to be proven out. So I took a cluster set of stereotypes that apply to some of the groups my class has studied and then set the question to players of a specific game *with the same wording* so that I could show that these groups in the game are the same conceptually (on some level) as the groups my classmates know these ideas are associated with in real life.

I know it's beyond basic for us as players who know what's in video games. Sadly there are people who honestly have no idea or way to imagine what is going on in any video game let alone know that valuable social forming might be taking place through them.

I don't think I get what this project is trying to prove. That people are able to link groups/species to stereotypes?
