Basically, I was thinking of buying Mass Effect 2 but have no idea what it will be like, having never played the first one. So what is it like, is it good, bad or just one of thoose mediocre games you always seem to get theese days.
Pretty much this. It never fails to sadden me when I see people bash Mass Effect for "Too much talking, not enough shooting!" That's the POINT.Furburt said:Bioware can do no wrong in my eyes.
However, if you don't like dialogue, and lots of it, then you need not apply.
If you haven't played the first one, you're going to miss out on a lot. A lot of the dialogue is a call back to the first game. Most side quests involve returning characters and the game constantly references the events of Mass Effect. It's great if you've played Mass Effect, but you're probably going to feel a bit lost if you haven't. Though maybe I'm wrong.teh_n00b_root said:Basically, I was thinking of buying Mass Effect 2 but have no idea what it will be like, having never played the first one. I hadn't thought about that, but I bet you are right. The primary focus was on PCs. Makes sense now.s69-5 said:Yeah, the tiny text has been the bane of my existence this gen. It's obviously not just ME2 (especially since I'll never play it. Hate shooters and I put Bioware on notice after the let down that is DA:O). But game designers were just a little too quick to jump on the "everyone should have an HD TV so lets make our text teeny tiny" fad. Sorry, most of us don't yet have an HD TV and even if we did, consoles are not PCs.AshenDoll said:The only thing that I would warn anyone about is the text. Okay, so I know that this is the crazy future of 2010, but not everyone has an HD TV. However, more and more programers tend to make the in-game text smaller and smaller.... Earrrgh!! This was a total game-breaker for me in Dead Rising... and now Mass Effect 2 is causing mucho eye-strain. (BTW, I am planning on getting a hd tv soon, but STILL! How unthoughtful!)
With a PC the user generally sits about 50-75cm away from the screen. Small text = appropriate.
Console users are generally on their couch a few meters away from the TV. Small text = too small.
I'd suggest you buy the first one, as it will be 10 dollars, and will give you a really good idea whether or not you'll like the 2nd one.teh_n00b_root said:Basically, I was thinking of buying Mass Effect 2 but have no idea what it will be like, having never played the first one.
