It's a big deal because its a Prothean. That's about it.

Also, I am quite confused that more people are not mad about this fact: CE owners (who practiced ME3 media blackout) are going to have a cool little surprise waiting for them when they find the Prothean. Everyone else HAS TO have it spoiled for them to get the damn thing in the first place. What the fuck sense does that make?
the main problem is that this was a leak before they were ready to put out the info so maybe if there wasn't a leak things might have been somewhat smoother
While this is certainly true I don't see how you can advertise a character who, by its very nature is a spoiler without spoiling it. People who bought the collector's edition knew they were getting a "bonus squadmate". Everyone else has to buy a $10 piece of DLC with the fucker's face on it :(
i'm not in favor of charging people for it but i am in favor of the fact there even getting it at all since some special dlc only the people who preorder or get it from some store or another get it
I just don't think something as BIG as a Prothean should have been considered as DLC in the first place due to its potential impact on the lore and wow factor to long-time fans. The discussion should have ended at, "How do we market this?" Yeah you can milk the long time fans, but at the same time you are ruining a potentially awesome reveal that would have made a wider reach of people enjoy your game more... assuming of course it was handled correctly.
i agree its massive spoiler but people think just because he's there he has some impact on the lore. i haven't read the leaked script or played the dlc so i can't say for certain if I'm right about all this but i can only go on what i hear and its conflicting bioware says this they say bioware is lieing. its still a week or so before its out
My hope is that the Protheans do play some role in the story beyond the DLC and that the DLC is simply an extra mission and a squadmate when it comes down to it. Even still, Bioware is really bad about keeping spoilers under wraps.

Because the game isn't out yet and we already consider the DLC to be massively important. From what I read, I guess it's a good kick to the face of fans.

Bioware:"You're not a real fan unless you bought the CE version."

Their marketing is ill-timed to say the least. I think peoples fears may be well founded after seeing this. Still I'm getting a collectors edtion, anyone know if the bonus with the dlc stack with the extra bonus from the Collectors edtion?

I didn't think it was hard to understand but I suppose it is. Very well then I will try to explain this.

How much does a game cost? New game costs £40(British currency because **** you $) and with that £40 you are purchasing the full game. You get everything that was made for it when it was released.

Now a lot of studios will try and boost new game sales with bonuses you get for buying new. For example Kingdoms of Amular gave you a free mission set if you bought new.

This however is different. It's true that they finished the game and then started making this, however that doesn't matter. It's going to be avaible for release day so why are they charging for it? Why not just include it as part of the game if you buy new like many other companies do? It's out on Day 1 so it is pretty much part of the full game, yet we do not get this for paying full price.

It's also a pretty big deal rather than just a different gun or paint scheme for your armour. It's going to be really important and relevant to a lot of people who would think of it as part of the ME3 experiance. A part that they are not getting for full price.

Im not trying to justify the rage or change anyones opinions. But this is why people are annoyed. Not because "OMG entitled gamers" like everyone keeps going on about.

Please don't pull the "OMG entitled gamers" crap -_- Please just don't.

The funny part? ME3 will come out and most likely get great scores and praise from the gaming community and as the year goes on and it goes up for sale, even those morons complaining about everything that they think Bioware is doing wrong will pick it up and will either nitpick the game to death or completely forget why they bitched on and on.

Either way, I still look at them all as scum who cannot be pleased by anyone.

On the description of the N7 Edition it says "Bonus downloadable mission and character." Also, Casey Hudson announced that it would be free with all copies of the N7 Editions.

Personally I'm against day one DLC when you have to pay for it, it's clearly just a cash grab. Day one DLC, in my opinion, should be free for anyone who bought a new copy of the game, be it standard or collectors editions. Mass Effect 2 had day one DLC, a little something extra for the people who bought it new, and it was free, a simple little code inside the box. Why exactly could they not do that with Mass Effect 3?

Beats me, it's almost like people WANT mass effect 3 to be bad.
Ive been having the same feeling lately. Sooooooo many haters nowdays. Ive heard people complaining about every single aspect of a game they haven't played yet. The best part being most of them are still gonna buy the damn game after whinging about it for six months.

Now that I think about it Bioware gave out free Mass Effect 2 DLC a couple times. Microsoft isnt one to waive fees and if i remember right its about $40,000 to host something on live, so dont act like they've never done anything for us before.

I can see why it's annoying, I can see why people don't like the little changes that BioWare has made. But I do get the levels of rage that going on.

I like DLC and day 1 DLC to an extent, I don't think it's the death of gaming and what have you. I like getting the DD edition and having a little something extra I've paid for. I also like having the option to get the little something extra if I can't get hold of the full package in the first place (like if I was to try and get a CE or N7 version on a console now). I would be MORE annoyed, in fact, way more annoyed if I was completely unable to get this this bonus character unless I got a DD, CE or N7 version, and, to be honest everyone else probably would be too, especially console gamers who don't have the DD choice.

As for the DLC character being Prothean, in what BioWare game has a DLC character made any real impact? DA:O, Shale, nope. ME2, Zaeed & Kasumi, hell no! DA2? Sebastian, nope and pretty much everyone prefers Varric for the partys archer. The Prothean WILL not make an impact beyond his bonus missions, the Prothen is simply a publicity stunt.

I preferred Sebastion.......

Also the reason people are making a big deal out of it is because it's not just some random guy like Zaeed. This is an established franchise. protheons have always been a big deal in the lore, it was thought that they were all dead. Now we get to actully have one in game. It's a big deal.

Lore suggests he should be a big deal, but he won't be, DLC characters never are. The prothean is simply there for publicity, he will have a limited impact on the game, at a push he may have the same impact as Shale did on the Paragon/Branka storyline. But I honestly cannot see him being anything more than that. an extra gun for hire, which, given the games lore is a shame.

First of all this has probably already been posted but i didnt feel like going throu the 5 BILLION!!! posts and threads of gamer rage so i make a new one!
I...guh...er....wha...um...

Here's a question: why? Why did you feel the need to create yet another one when this has been covered countless times in other threads? You do know you're only throwing it into the pile, lumping it together with torrent of opinions and hate, right? What did you hope to prove by starting an entirely separate thread of your own?

Christ.

You do know Bioware could have kept the character as a collectors edition only content? As a way to reward the die hard fans that spent that extra £20. If they had done that people would be whining that Bioware should allow them to buy it on DLC as well.

Personally im not buying it, am not interested in the character, just looks like a reskinned collector with a mouth. Wish it would have been a collector but one that kept its mind. Either that or a new race like a Volus or something. Voucha? lol. I just think the Protheans should have been left a dead race.

Thank you! I feel like I've been running around like Yahtzee shouting about the Wii being shit, except that I'm shouting about how the DLC was made after the game, so can't have been cut. And no one listens. It's been a very frustrating couple of weeks.

So again, thank you for interjecting sanity. ^^

To answer why: because i felt like it and because i could! Simple enough

Now, since you ask me why dont i ask you:
Why do you feel the need to point it out? You know its only gonna get piled up with the rest of the people that feel the need to point these things out! Also the "damage" is already done so why whine about it!
Oh and btw this is a forum so these things happen, next time it could you who knows!

People mostly irrationally pile on the hate because they consider it cool to dislike Bioware since it's part of the corporation that also owns EA. And, they can take the day one DLC as more proof that EA is 'evil' to appease their little minds.

Another factor in the ME3 DLC hate is that many have taken that 'BUT, ITS A FUCKING PROTEAN' and assumed that the makes the DLC character essential mentality. Though interesting to lore I don't even see how he could be essential though. All previous DLC squadmates have been nothing more than an extra singular ally with a personal mission attached to them. The fact that this one is a a Protean doesn't change that. How can a lone survivor from a species that lost the previous battle with the Reapers, has no knowledge of the universe in it's current state, and that will probably be hunted by several factions including Cerberus expected to be more than a refuge? At least he will be a soldier so he can be a refuge that joins your ranks and contribute to the fight for those that have the DLC, for those that don't he's a curiosity that won't be missed.
