I hated the original endings, but this new batch I'm fine with. I like the Refuse option as well, and while it wasn't amazing, I'm certainly at peace with it now. If this had been the original ending to the series, I wonder how people would've reacted...

Also, while I DO wish Shep had lived, I don't mind her death. I think I'm just sick of that being how most games end these days, or at least in how I play my characters (Dragon Age: Origins and Fallout 3 come to mind quickly as RPGs where I've had to suicide to stay in character. Why do I always play nice people?). Still, thematically, it certainly felt right for her to die to save the world (and I picked Order, so now I can be the eternal guardian of the galaxy. Yaaay!)

Perhaps I approached the endings with an abundance of preconceived notions. I avoided spoilers for the most part, but I knew it was supposed to be horrible, so I started paying attention to the foreshadowing that occurred throughout the game. There was A LOT by the way, most of it could have been mistaken for obligatory doubting banter, but it was certainly there. In short, I thought the original endings were appropriate, not great, but not bad enough to raise such cain.

I think the extended cut addressed any issues I had with the original endings. After all, this was most definitely one of, if not, the most epic video game franchises ever created. Spanning the entire galaxy and reaching back to the beginnings of civilization. It was easy to identify with and like the characters, so naturally we expect an ending that takes us through the full range of emotions we experienced. The original ending, just didn't have the content to give justice to such an experience.

Furthermore, I applaud the developers for listening to their fan base and having the humility to admit to their shortcomings. There is not precedent for this turn of events, and they had no true obligation to do what they did. This DLC probably cost them a significant amount of money, this on top of the money lost due to bad publicity at launch, and I just wanted them to know that while every one may not appreciate it, I do.

I'm not sure how someone could like the endings, or lack there of. I guess if you're not into the series or you haven't played from the first one than maybe, but if you've been involved in the series from the beginning and you follow the lore, it'd be hard to enjoy any of the endings. Before the extended cut none of the endings made sense. They went completely against the mass effect lore and how the game plays out. You got little to no choice and there was no option to tell the kid to fuck off. The mass relays were destroyed yet they expect you think that nothing would die which is false. The indoctrination theory was something to give the player hope that the writer didn't suck and was pulling you along for a crazy twist. Now with the extended ending it kicks the indoctrination theory to the curb and crushes all the intelligence and time put in by dedicated fans to fix something like the mass effect ending. I'm not sure if I actually hate the new endings more. Yay the mass relays didn't explode and the Normandy came into the picture to show where they were. And the god child finally allowed you to ask questions but still failed to answer the most important question. Who the hell created the reapers or the god child AI for that matter. "there is not enough time to explain to you" aka. Umm shit the fans want to know who created the reapers.. Just tell them it's not something they could comprehend. Or the above sentace. And will you just decide if shepherd is dead or not, don't leave a cliffhanger when you announce there will be no more games with him. I did enjoy some of the scenes afterwards but the "epilogue" was shit. Showed generic people happy and rebuilding the citadel and repairing cities on earth. Did not show any of your crew members besides them at the memorial wall holding your name plaque (or putting it up) all I want is an ending where shepherd definitively lives and is shown with his crew. And last thing I want to bring up is what should have been the best ending was the refusal ending. He should have done his little speech and then you watch the ships battle out not this super depressing ending where everyone dies and you get a hologram saying everyone died. To end this rant, I was just hoping for closure at the least but was not given a logical ending or closure. Also I personally feel that if drew karpyshin or however you spell his last name helped as being a lead writer or the only lead writer we wouldn't have these problems. Mac Walters did an awesome job on the game but fucked up the entire ending.

EDIT to the EDIT- I would prefer to use "they" as an impersonal reference to a single person who is of indeterminate gender, but my english professor informs me she wouldn't tolerate it if I did it in any of my essays, so I'm training myself not to. I'm not sure why she finds s/he to be less weird, but hey, I don't get to argue.
Your teacher is an ass who should not be teaching. "They"is grammatically acceptable in reference to an undetermined person. It has been used this was for centuries.
I find that many professors after high school have decided everything they thought upon becoming professors is completely true, and believe they now have the prestige and ability to refuse all evidence to the contrary. Annoyingly, there's pretty much nothing I can do regarding something this trivial, but it's still annoying that someone who knows less about the english language than I do is teaching me.
