I have got 2 games which span through both of the games.

The Good Shepard (mostly)
And the Bad Ass Shepard (bad ass, not ass hole).

So I save the council and I do good around the galaxy... with the occasional blip and then blow up the collector base.
Then I fuck the council, put bullets in every "bad guy" in the galaxy no matter how badly they beg, and then I sterilize the Collector base of all life (oh shit).

I lost Zaeed and Mordin on by bad ass run and I stuck with it because... considering the sample of footage shown at E3... it will be interesting to see how fucked the Galaxy will be without the mastermind scientist xD

but there's no point in giving up content in ME3 just for the sake of roleplaying regret.
Yes there is, that's the point of games like Mass Effect, your choices have consequences. It makes the story more interesting and unique. I can understand wanting to have everyone alive in Mass Effect 3 but I stuck with the endings I had because it means when I play ME3 I have more ways to see the story. I have saves with characters dead and all characters alive and I plan on importing them all to ME3 to see what impact it could have on ME3's story.

I have 4 different Shepards... I'm hoping for a different ending for each, but I will stick with the endings for each :)
This in many ways, with an addendum:

I've never managed to lose any of the crew, even Yeoman Chambers and that crew... except for my very first playthrough, when I lost my love interest, Tali, only. Staring at her casket was one of the most moving moments I have Ever experienced, and though bittersweet, well, c'est la vie.

My other Shepards kept everyone alive, albeit in different ways. I will love to see the ending that each of my Shep's get.

I played through again ME2 so I could keep all my characters. Did a full-paragon run... First one only miranda and legion died but i mean come on, how could I not have legion. He's one of a kind! Literally!

But since ME3 is the last one I won't be too worried about losing future content, so if some of my team dies then that's the ending I'll stick with.

Unless of course Bioware pulls a "Gotcha!" on me and turns out there's another Shep game. Which would be disappointing, I really want the opportunity to play as a drell... or geth...

I have four Sheps. First playthrough I did without any guides and got Thane, Grunt and Miranda killed. The other three were to check every other choice ( save the Council, kill the Rachni queen etc.) one full paragon, one full renegade, and one paragon FemShep. My first Shep was little of both.

If I lose the Galaxy, I will reload and do again. I've had the same character since ME1 through ME2. I've done some playthroughs on diffirent classes, but ME3 will be with my main, first character (Vangaurd).

Sean Shepard will not lose.
Sean Shepard will not fail.
SEAN SHEPARD WILL SAVE THE FUCKING GALAXY.

Any subsequent runs will be strictly for achievement grinding and will have no bearing whatsoever on the final outcome of my Shep's story.
Wow, I can honestly say that is the first custom Shepard of either gender that I have really loved the look of. Whenever I try to do one I seem to get serious uncanny valley syndrome so I usually just stick with the standard models. But you know how to build a face!
Lovingly crafted for 3 or so hours in the first game and very nicely ported into the second. All she needs is some cornrows [http://www.weavesandbraidssydney.com/images/cornrows.jpg] and I'll have a near-100% representation of one of my original characters. ^__^

I take the utmost care when it comes to crafting characters in games that allow you to, even in something as user-unfriendly as Fallout [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/Reload.jpg], Oblivion [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/TheThroneroom.jpg], or even both Dragon [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/Listener.jpg] Age [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/Muse.jpg] games [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/BeforetheStorm.jpg] (fun facts: my FemShep and the Fallout example characters are sisters [the Fallout character being older], and the DA examples are, technically, twins). Hell, I even make sure I have an optimal character build, if you will, in Saints Row (all my examples are currently low quality, so they'd look like tripe regardless).

So as not to derail the thread any more than it already has been, simply know that your kind words are not unappreciated. :)

If the whole world ends up dying because I screwed up I would feel pretty insulted. I can say I'm 90% sure that I would go back and make sure that damn world gets saved.

Other than utter catastrophe, yeah I would keep my ending. If I wanted another one I would simply start another Shepard and do things differently.

I'm going with whatever ending I get. I already lost Grunt, Zaeed, and Jacob, I won't lose anyone else, especially if it's one of the non-boring characters, and I'm going to do it without reloading saves if someone dies...

Or so I say...

Nope. I made the choices I made, I have to "live with it" so to speak. The game just wouldn't be the same for me otherwise. I was tried to get everyone out alive in ME2, but did I? No, I lost Mordin. Did I restart? Nope, I did not. I will do the same with ME3.

I'll take whatever I get. I'm actually playing through the game with my "canon" Shepard the first time around too, so no learning the ins and outs of the game before wrapping her story up.

That said, I've never failed to get a perfect ending in Mass Effect 2. Deciding what ending to go for in Dragon Age: Origins was much harder.

My original 'canon' had my losing two squadmates in the last encounter, which I did not remedy. However, that was on consoles, and I have since migrated to PC. So, on PC I replicated my ME1 playthrough (complete with the mistakes I would like to undo), and played through ME2 on a harder difficulty to establish what I decide to consider my actual canon.

This time I had everyone survive, and included DLC in the encounter. I also figured out I skipped a huge amount of story by accident by simply not talking to people enough, so I feel I got the more complete experience out of it. I'll consider it the true story, with my previous one being more of an extended trailer riddled with spoilers and cut footage.

I DID cheat once though, and that's when I got Thane (love interest) killed. I undid that...but I'm considering it more critical to any following story that he survive.

Of course.

I must save the galaxy, it must happen.

If I fail then i'll pretend I was looking the other way and "accidentally" reload to an earlier save (much like I spent hours doing in Deus Ex trying to get the best outcomes from conversation).

I don't like failing, especially when i've been at that damn story for 2 games already.

The galaxy WILL be saved dammit .... it will do as it's damned well told and BE BLOODY SAVED.

In truth these two seemingly contrasting viewpoints are likely very similar from a gameplay standpoint.

I love Bethesda; In my opinion any RPG made under their logo is going to be superior to nearly anything else on the market. That being said, even Bethesda tends to fall trap to the "signposted endings". In reality the final choice will likely be the only true factor in deciding whether you are a savior of life or slave of fate.

I would envision the final climactic scene with Shepherd surrounded by a broken and bleeding crew, standing over the bodies of his recently fallen foes staring at a huge red button labeled "SAVE THE GALAXY" and slowly drifting his gaze to an exit door labeled "YOU'RE AN ARSEHOLE".

Mass Effect has a proven track record of this with the "Renegade vs Paragon" dichotomous system. While the player is free to maker his/her own choices, the choices are nearly always clear and definite. Shepherd isn't judged for accidental friendly fire or risking his life to save a companions, he's defined by whether you call the alien drug smuggler a jerk and hand him over to the authorities or call him a jerk and pistol-whip him to death.

With so much at stake and a flagship title coming to a close (at least for Shepherd), even Bethesda developers are likely to take the simple "Hey its your game, make the call" outlook.

I mean the more you bend the story to your perfect out come, the less it feels like a story and more like a game.
It is a game. If there are multiple endings and the game is good enough, I want to play a few times and see a few different endings. There's no reason to pick one and "stick with it." The game is meant to be played multiple times to get the multiple endings, and getting one and then never playing again would be stupid.

Yes, I know it's a game. And I never said that I wouldn't replay it. But I'm just saying, I won't try to bend the ending to my will on the first play through. If Shepard loses first time and reapers destroy all, then that is what I will always think when I remember Mass Effect, no matter how many times I replay, the "real" ending would be what I got the first time.
