Mean Reviews Before Yahtzee

I subscribed to Game Player's Magazine - later Ultra Game Players, and then later the staff largely moved on to a Playstation magazine - where the game reviews could be described as tongue-in-cheek and brutally honest, in regards to how good or bad the game was.

Lowest score ever was a 0.0 for Cosmic Race, a shitty-ugly-boring racing game, which was lambasted for being so.

The same online archives that lately got scans of Nintendo Power also have scans of Game Players Magazine, with all the jokes and hilarity therein.

Praise Gazuga.

Don't feel too sorry. He's still milking his patrons to the tune of about $1000 a month despite not having produced any real content for a long time.

In his prime however he was hilarious. I still go back to watch his old content periodically.

He underwent a downward spiral in recent years due to health and mental issues, getting booted from Channel Awesome and a general lack of impetus. The only consistent activity anymore is excessive Twitter ramblings and the occasional Twitch stream where he hardly ever talks, and when he does it's to lash out at/ban the viewers over trivial shit. It's a shame really, watching one of the trailblazers of comedic internet reviews hoist himself by his own petard.

Actual content on his site, yeah, there's been like, maybe 2 Counter Monkey episodes in the last year?

I guess if you get a large enough pool of people, 1000 a month isn't hard? Lots of people will throw a buck or two at random GoFundMe stuff. Its like if 10/30 people at work like me enough to spot me for a coffee twice a week. 2 bucks a coffee. 40 a week, 160 a month. Your co-workers are probably more willing to spot you a coffee socially then hand you 2 dollars, but the general economics are the same.
