The Beta finally arrived on XBOX Live last night, our PC and Sony brethren have been enjoying it for a while now.

Personally, I think there's no way in hell this will topple COD. The fundamental elements feel a little clumsily crafted in some areas.

For example, the controls are not nearly as fluid and satisfying as COD. It feels a bit clunky and awkward to aim and the hit detection seems to be very dodgy.

The ratio of movement speed between hip firing and aiming down sights seems to be a bit messy too, though that could just be that I'm too used to 'flowy' setups like COD or Borderlands.

The game in its current form seems to be very laggy and keeps stuttering and getting stuck, teleporting my guy around corners and things. Definitely something that will need fixing.

It's not as good looking as Bad Company 2 either in my opinion, which is surprising to me. They've gone down the 'grey and brown' route, so to speak.

On the plus side, the classes seem well balanced, none of the guns feel overpowered and there are no stupid perks making a mess of things.

Anyone got any thoughts on it?

I didn't realise either but it's modern warfare.
Not like modern warfare.
It is modern warfare.
Same game with a different name.

After seeing how sloppy MOH Airborne was, I can never bring myself to play their games.
As far as the Beta, I have not heard of it so they really must not be advertising

I have to disagree.

It feels and plays very differently from MW, unless you mean thematically which is also untrue as Dice were making modern day shooters before Infinity Ward.

I played the PC beta. I didn't like it at all. The whole game felt so sloppy. The maps sucked. I couldn't see the enemies so I was always running around dieing. And while I'm not pro at FPS, I definitely don't suck. The controls felt clumsy. The game froze and crashed too much. I love how it told me to press left or right on the d-pad to mortar strike.

Here's a hint devs: PC DOESN'T HAVE A FREAKING D-PAD! If you're playing an FPS on the PC and you are using a D-Pad, you're doing it wrong.

I've been playing it for a while, and I'm wholly disappointed. Granted, it's a beta, but it could be so much more interesting. The controls feel really floaty and clunky, and there's problems with lag and hit detection. Unless this game tightens up big time, it's not getting my purchase.

if it's a beta then those things are what you're there for.

if it's just a stress test though, then yeah sucks for it.

I don't know how this "feels" different to you than modern warfare but IN MY FUCKING OPINION the game is too similar to the above mentioned game.

Well, I played the PC beta and that it was better than CoD.

Had to change a couple of the key-mappings, and you're right about the hit-detection occasionally (but this is a beta) but generally it's highly enjoyable if you're playing on the Helmand Valley map. The other map is CoD, the Valley one is it's own thing.

It provides good sniping opportunities for a start, because it's so big - meaning people don't ***** about snipers running in their face and quick-scoping them (or whatever the fuck it's called) from 10 feet away.

The other 2 classes could be differentiated a little, and the assault rifles are far too accurate, but overall I enjoyed it. Also, because of the size of the valley map, when someone does get to call in an air strike (which happens far less than it does in MW2) you feel like you're actually doing it tactically, and there's every possibility for you to escape it should you be on the receiving end.

Overall, some technical adjustments need to made but other than that I really liked it.

Gah, I tried changing key-mappings but it never worked and usually ended up crashing to desktop. I wonder if it's the Steam version that's buggy. I figured out that you can use Y and U to talk, but if I pressed them, my guy would just get stuck. I could still aim and shoot, but couldn't move and couldn't exit the talk screen. I couldn't talk, either.

No, I think if you preodered it you got the beta earlier...

And I haven't played the beta myself, but I'll try and bring myself to it, since I loved Medal of Honor.

Yeah, I had that bug too - I think everyone did because no one spoke.

As for the key mappings they were no trouble - I think I reassigned the grenades and melee attack to Q and E and it worked fine.

It isn't completely terrible (playing on PC), but there is certainly a lot of work to be done. For one, it feels that DICE didn't really put that much effort into the multiplayer, I occasionally feel like I'm playing Bad Company 2 as opposed to Medal of Honor, it seems like that they barely put any work into it and put a skin over it to make it look different. Second, I really do not approve of the whole UAV/Mortar strikes going along, I was really hoping that detriments to teamwork such as killstreaks wouldn't make an appearance but I guess this is the future of FPS. In the beta, there is absolutely no communication and it isn't because people don't talk, it's because you can't talk, I would've certainly like to ask people to at least push up instead of sitting around and sniping or asking for someone else to take down the APC with me.

The interface is also very sloppy on PC, the entire thing reeks of a straight port from consoles and this doesn't work well on PC since you have things such as only able to change your options and settings when you're alive and not able to do so when you're facing the respawn screen.

The overall balance is fine, but it's the same problem for most shooters these days, if you're a higher rank, you WILL have a distinct advantage over any lower ranked players. I say just remove unlockables and give it to us right off the bat. I really like to know who thought it was a good idea to make the sniper scope an unlockable, because that makes no sense in terms of the setting of the game and from a gameplay perspective.

Medal of Honor will need a lot of work before it gets my purchase, I know it's still beta, but beta means that not very much will be changed before the release of the actual game.

Played the PC version myself. It's not bad, in my opinion. They seem to have gone for a light brown look instead of gritty dark, which is nice, and the fact that Snipers just get battle rifles at first instead of actual snipers is nice. It feels good to get a few kills without getting shot across the map.
But, with the unlock system, it's ridiculous. Want to get a laser sight for your AK-74u? Get 1000000 exp. To give you a good look at this, one kill gets you 10 exp. Headshots, melee, revenge and saviour (killing an enemy before he kills the teammate of yours he is attacking) all give you an extra 5. TEDIUM! Planting bombs, getting intel and calling in mortars, etc give you an extra 20, I think.

The maps so far are quite big, so airstrikes don't seem to destroy your whole team (thank christ, I hated that in MW) but some people have the magical ability to snipe with a carbine or an AK. Usually at me.
The controls seem to work dandy, but it has a few annoying flaws.
1) Why can't I initiate reloading while sprinting, but can sprint while reloading? It slows me down for about a second and is just plain irritating.
2) Crouch should be on a toggle. Always. Do not make me hold down the button, or at least give me a choice.
3) Changing sensitivity the teeniest bit seems to change your guys arms from snail's pace to 'OHHAIGAISTIEMFOWSEIZUES'. Also, it says it'll change your stick sensitivity. On a PC.
This game was definitely developed for console, just from that one sentence.
4) I can't seem to find a 'go prone' button. Going prone would help while trying to snipe, or something. I like going prone, dammit!

That's pretty much all I can say on it. Might get it, though probably not until it goes down in price. A lot.

How, exactly, do you get the Xbox beta?
Do you have to pre-order the game itself?

I'm pretty sure its pre-order only...
I'm confused as to what you mean.
I understand that you can only pre-order Medal of Honor, because it doesn't come out for a few months. I'm asking how you get the beta.
Sorry if I'm misinterpreting your response, it's just very confusing because the way you worded it makes it seem as if I'm supposed to know how to get it already.
