Hi guys, I've been looking around for a good bit and honestly am lost. I am looking for a non-war style Medieval city simulator ALA Guild 2 but honestly don't know where to start. Any Ideas?

I can only think of Stronghold (which is military) and the Caesar/Pharoah games which aren't medieval.

You could try either Stronghold, as mentioned above, or Black and White, which is as much about growing your pet deity as it is about making a big civilization for your worshippers.

Stronghold! Stronghold Crusader!
Good fun with both a military and economic campaign, though kind of dated.
Edit: Ninja'd, twice

You are going to be hard-pressed to find a game with the same feeling and attention to detail as The Guild II. Since conflict (armed or unarmed) is often what makes a situation or game interesting, you're going to have to deal with it in most other alternatives.

As suggested by nikki191, you could give The Patrician a go. The aspect is more on trade and commerce as part of the Hanseatic league. The Patrician III and The Patrician IV are available on Steam.

Any games from the Anno-series except for the last iteration should also fit the bill. There is combat involved however, and I personally find that part annoying and badly implemented.

In the same style and genre to some extent, you could give The Settlers-series a go. Just like Anno you will be dealing with extended supply chains, resource management, etc. but alas also some combat.

In more of a Medieval Fantasy setting, I have heard good things about Majesty and Majesty 2, though I have not played either of them yet.

If it is the first-person perspective of The Guild II that interests you, you can even play the Mount & Blade-series as a non-combatant, but it does make the game more difficult. You could also have a look at the modding community to see if there is something more in-depth available.

Good luck on your search!

I think the "The Settlers" series is supposed to be this, but I can't say for sure (having never played them myself).

While placing structures is an important part of gameplay, they aren't really "city builders". Besides that the focus is more on the heroes they hire / service, several structures like houses and sewers get placed without any input, unless you reload a save and deliberately place a different building before it spawns, in which case it'll appear somewhere else.

If you want to give it a shot, go for the original game; the sequel is one of those "if you don't play a certain way, you will not succeed" types.

Oh, two more games have come to mind, not medieval, but still in the same genre.

[li]Port Royale - simulation of trade and colonisation in the Caribbean, including piracy and trade ship convoys, etc.[/li]
[li]CivCity Rome - simulation of Rome at a city level.[/li]

It's not a city sim but for a more general medieval simulator Crusader Kings 2 is superb. The best game I've played in years.

Dwarf Fortress.
Manage a bunch of depressed, alcoholic midgets into building a large hole in the ground in a hostile wilderness. Everything, down to hair style, organ function, favorite foods, clothing, weapons, armor, etc is tracked down. I know few other games that are free and npcs have working nervous sytems.
If that doesn't suit you, play adventure mode. Grab a mace and bash some face!
