To clarify, do you mean that IM service? I see it nowhere (Chrome user), so unless The Escapist has an allergic reaction to Opera in showing it, I would suggest the problem's not with The Escapist.

I'm on Chrome and I see something at the bottom saying "Connect via Meebo" Is that what you mean?

'cause I don't know about yours but on mine, on the far right of it there's arrows pointing down which you click on to hide the bar.

It's extremely annoying. It keeps popping up every time I select text and darkens the screen. I hate this kind of crap. If I want to 'share' something on this website I'll do it myself, I do not need some pseudo-smartass widget for it. Argh.

Also the Escapist seems even slower than usual.

Yeah, but whenever I highlight a text it pops "Do you want to share it with Meebo" Which kinda annoys me a lot.

And I do not know why but since meebo showed up escapist takes ages to load (10-60sec) and I'm using 100/10mbit internet.

It's really irritating me. My internet is awful at the moment, and I have a habit of highlighting text as I read it. I end up accidentally clicking the 'meebo share' thingy and the entire page greys out and freezes because it can't load the service...

This is really strange.

Logged onto Escapist, noticed this meebo add bar at the bottom of the screen, thought something was up with google chrome and searched my extentions and programs, found nothing and even reinstalled google chrome until i realised that it was connected only to this site.

Now the meebo bar has gone, but if i select text and click the share meebo icon appears. I guess it's something up with the Escapist website and not our own browsers. I'm not having this problem on other forums.

Am on FF4 and I don't have this thing. I'm also in England and a Pubclub member; any of those could be the reason I'm (gratefully) excluded. Sounds like the Ping thing in iTunes, R.I. Disquiet.

I'm well aware of this and asked the same thing. Should we start a band called "Turn It Off!" and METAL our way out of this? That would be...entertaining.

On top of this, the site's been acting slow on me as well, apparently due to some very process-grinding java.

The features Meebo provides are not useful in the slightest. I have no use for an advertisement bar, escapist. I'm fine with the box ads, even the super tall Newegg one, but come on!

Well I will be leaving this site if they continue to use Meebo and not give you an option to turn it off.

Cannot be bothered with a site that punish you for not paying them and take ages to load.

Meebo prioritizes loading over half the stuff on the page. It's annoying taking upwards of 10 seconds to load a single page.

I'm inclined to agree. Show your ads and crap, but you can't GET the revenue if we can't actually SEE it because the page is sssssssssssssssslllllllllllllloooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww...

Something has definately screwed it up lately, I move my mouse anywhere near a youtube link and all it wants to do is share it with Meebo. I can say this much I will NEVER use Meebo if its this invasive.

Yeah I just noticed that aswell.

I do not understand how they are thinking this would be a great idea.
