My younger brother with whom I live has decided, in his wisdom to acquire a kitten. Don't get me wrong, I adore cats, I'm just a wee bit concerned about it falling down stairs or seeing how electrical cables taste.

Anyhow, since my brother's soon to become a mother, and is absolutely useless with names, he's been trying to solicit suggestions. I've posited Chairman Meow, Garkov [http://joshmillard.com/garkov/], Jess (alright, I used to love Postman Pat), and others.

What have other people on this forum called their felines? Did they ever find curiosity injuring them by climbing inside computer casings, devouring wires, etc?

Cats are surprisingly durable. Stairs are nothing to them, niether is jumping out a 3rd story window...my ex's cat thought she was evul kinevil (however its spelt....dyslexia ftw!)

Anyway to the naming...

Name it after what he likes doing or watching. Or simply something wierd and random

I call mine Cat. Or Kitty. I've got two, they both look the same and I can't remember their real names.

So far, I've seen them run into cars, walk on hot stoves, fall off roofs, go for swims and smash glasses after getting their heads stuck in them. They're both still alive and in rude health. I don't think you have anything to worry about there.

Brother is about to be a mother?

I also love Postman Pat (and his black and white cat).

My cat names are from the colour of the fur (Ginger,Blueberry,Orangey).

Is it just me, or is this sentence... wrong?

Anyway, I like the name Ginger. Depends on the colour, though.

I'm sure there is a random name generator, if you really can't decide on a name.

I have both a dog and a cat. I named the cat spike and the dog fluffy for kicks.

My cats are named as follows: Kitten (the oldest), Fiddle, Frantic, Dizzy, Chessie, and Winnie. And yes, Fiddle as a kitten chewed through thin wires like headphone cables and the like, but none of the other cats have, so it may have been an odd occurrence. And yeah, cats are not going to do anything that will seriously injure them. Just keep them cooped in a small room like a bathroom for the first week or two, and give it LOTS of attention. LOTS. Then slowly introduce it to bigger areas, and then stairs.

I love kitties...

Cats are fairly good at looking out for themselves, however they WILL chew on thin power cables occasionally (prepare to lose some headphones, or repair their cables at the very least).

Also, be wary of those 4 way power boards, for some reason if they are they are offwhite, some cats will pee on them if they can't find their kitty litter box (probably cause kitty litter is also generally offwhite).

As far as names:
Pagan, Milo, Muffin, Girr, Suki, Catat and Adonis are all names my family have used, (my personally named one was Pagan though).

I have a small kitten. It does like to go places it's not supposed to go and eat things it's not supposed to eat, but the best thing to do is just always keep a small watch on it and make sure it's not doing anything drastic. I'm not saying watch it 24/7, but cats need lots of attention anyway so you should be able to limit the "bad" things it may do.

Falling down stairs and stuff shouldn't really bother you. Cats actually have an invisible force field underneath their fur that cushions them from falls and other potential injuries.

Name it something orginial. Oh GOD name it something original. Name it something that nobody in your whole city would name it. I'm not asking you to name it "Xzycixy" or something, just something that's not "Whiskers" or "Snowball" or "Professor Snugglesworth" or anything else that the crazy cat lady down the street names her cats.

You must name your kitty 'Mr Pumpernickel' for Hey Joe has decreed it.

Or, if you wanted to be nerdy you can call your cat 'qwerty'
