Thanks to my cat Neeko i lost my Ethernet cable for my LIVE. i was pissed, and my cat has bitten right into an extension cord and he jumped back so fast it barley hurt him, he most likely wont bite wires, and if he does chances are we wont be able to break through the plastic of the wires that'll kill him.

I basically trained my cat, so can you, just start um young, when he does something hes not supposed to give him a tap between the ears, and to give him a sign of not to do things, snap your fingers and point at him before givin him a tap between the ears. He'll eventually associate you snapping with him getting hit. so yeah good luck with the kitty.

You should name him Lol. As in "Lolcat" (kill me.)

Our family's first cat was named "Sheika", but my mum had one before that named "Minoush." Our second cat wasnamed "Akira", and the one we've got at the moment is named "Smoky."

(note: The first two are girls names)

Any of those would be cool, as would be "Twisp." [http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/3/24/]

EDIT: How about "Jake?"

The two we have right now are Watson and Sherlock. The last two were Jake and Elwood. For a single cat, a name like Edward is always good. If you have people over, and you call him "Come here Edward!" who is not going to laugh in that group? I mean, you're calling a cat Edward. With a straight face.

How about Isis if it's a female?

Or what about Schrödinger?
Ok, that last one is to complicated.

Edit: As for your electric wire chewing fear, there exists some kind of cat repellent spray.
Spray it on wires your cat plays with or on furniture it isn't allowed to scratch.
Works really well but don't overuse it or the cat will hate you.

I am definitely calling my next cat that.

All my cats names are pretty typical. There is Zelda, Claudia, Pepi and Lily.

Zelda, because my sister and I were obsessed at the time. Claudia, after the only character I liked in some Anne Rice vampire movie. Pepi, because she's full of 'pep'.. Well, was, she's fat now. And Lily, because she's pure white.

Anyway. I find characters from movies/books are good.

We've got two (I don't live at home anymore but they're still mine!). Tom (the imaginatively named black tom cat) and Tigger (a tabby queen).

Personally I want a few cats when I'm more settled. I'm going to call them Castro and Orwell. They just seem to work as cat names.

Incidentally the female fell off a roof when she was young and busted her hip up badly. They fixed her up and she's fine but they do seem to pretty hardy.

Worth just getting him to read up on what can hurt them though:

None of my cats have ever chewed through wires, so I think you're okay.

Call it El Hanko Destroyer Of Both Worlds. Or Colin.

The most important thing to consider with naming a cat is:

"Am I comfortable shouting this name down the garden at the top of my voice at two in the morning".

Also, it will inevitably end up getting called fleabag or something similar anyway.

My younger brother with whom I live has decided, in his wisdom to acquire a kitten. I've posited Chairman Meow, Garkov [http://joshmillard.com/garkov/], Jess (alright, I used to love Postman Pat), and others.

What have other people on this forum called their felines?
It's gotta Chairman Meow. That's brilliant. I'll probably use it for my next cat and claim I thought of it.

My cats are called.
Dude - duder, el duderino (you know if you're in to the whole brevity thing)
Vader - all black female
Spadeface - A chocolate black persian.

I've seen mine get into all kinds of crap, they've never really tried to chew through my cords though. Play with em maybe, but not chew em. If they do just run em off, they should catch on fairly quick.

As for my cats. there's:

Mama - Doesn't really like anything or anyone, progenitor of the rest of my cats

Patches - Generic name chosen cause she has patchy colored fur

Ruffles - Huge cat, my only male. Named because it was the first solid food he ate

Grab Bag - Ruffles' kid. If ruffles is a big bag, then she must be a grab bag :p

Pity Kitty - Couldn't resist, after looking at her and watching her grow up I had to name her that. She's the runt and the rest of the cats pick on her so the name stuck

Speaking as guy from a family of cat lovers and has no more than 7 family cats not counting the moochers, you won't have problems without really good effort(a LOT of it).Our two indoor cats(both neutered due to originally being shelter cats, a male and a female, ironically) Jump down several flights of stairs, fallen a storey or two trying to chase pigeons on the window sill, get into massive cat fights and suffer through pro longed exposure to abba music without much problem and we've had them for years. Cats are well adaptive animals. They can familiarise terittories, memorise paths, figure out behavioural habits("Hey, 12 O clock bro. feed me or we claw your manhood bub") and frankly they don't say cats have nine lives for nothing. Hell, they can swim(one of our outdoor kittens fell into a pool and managed to swim to the sides and climb back to land. we call him "drippy")

As for names, go with gloatingswine's idea. You'll want to be comfortable shouting for your cat(wether to call it or berate it,most likely it will be the latter as you'll soon give up on the former when you realise it is futile). Also, borrowing from the hobbits, "call it something brief so you won't have to shorten it for use or something".

As for names:
Howabout naming them after some mythological figures.(zeus, aphrodite,Loki, tiamit)
Or some flower(daisy is what we named our female indoor cat, lilly, lilac, sunny)
Their behaviour(garfield is the nickname of our male indoor cat, guess why.Drippy, thief)
Their standout features(we also call garfield "featherduster" for his fuzzy feather duster like tail)
Or you could name them human names if you aren't in brazil(it's illegal there to name pets after people)

I got two, one called Count Vladimir Tepes and the other is called Temujin Genghis Khan (vlad and genghis for short)!
Don't worry about stairs and such, cats are resilient, and if they show too much interest in something you can discourage them with a water pistol, they soon get the idea.

I called mine Lulu because I was palying FFX at the time.
She's ran away now though ):

My first cat was called Stick, as it was my first word and the first letter I could spell.
Every other cat I see in the street I call Phillip. Don't know why...
