I believe Sweet Child definitly deserves a mention too. Plus you have to have Smoke on the Water, possibly the most recognisable opening riff ever.

The Final Countdown by Europe

I think just about everyone knows the into, and then spends the next day humming it over and over.

The intro to Raining Blood of course. Also, the intro to The Number of the Beast.

'Plug In Baby' by Muse. That opening riff is amazing.
Definately one to look up.

Also, 'Bloodmeat' by Protest The Hero. Just from the first bar of the opening, you know it's going to be awesome...

Two Lamb of God songs from me, both from Sacrament: Again We Rise and Decending

The first scream of "Riiiiiiiiiiise!" in Again We Rise really gets you pumped, and Decending may have the best buildup of any song ever. You sort of get get this burst of energy and adrenaline from the songs.

In fact, the whole album is great for music to have on in the background when gaming.

Very right on both counts. Can't believe I forgot them.

Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TH6-bQYuiU&feature=related[/link] That's not an official video
Rated by Rolling Stone magazine as the #1 song of all time, Bob Dylan's masterpeice rocks my socks every time I listen to it, and the man who wrote the review for the song on the Rolling Stone magazine website made special mention of the intro:

Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan ('Judas' version)
[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqUFHEyu5hM[/link]
After turning 'electric,' and being accused by his fans of being a betrayer, Bob Dylan gave mixed reactions. This particular reaction, however, was not mixed. As he takes the stage (it was at a concert in England, forget were) a member of the crowd calls him "Judas!" For a few moments he looks as if he's ignoring them, but he can't resist stepping up to the mic and sneering out a sarcastic "I don't believe you" - followed up by his crying out "you're lying!"

Perhaps the best part of the recording comes next, when he shouts to his band - just in earshot of the mic - that they should "play it fucking loud!" A split second before the band erupted into that most powerful of song intros.

Dylan = #1 for me, forever.
Ah, another Dylan fan, I see. I never particularly liked the intros more than the rest of the songs, but I can see where you're coming from. That is indisputably a great song.
