OT: I would contribute, but the OP has ninja'd me, as well as about half of the PC gamer Escapists out there.....so Mass effect's one was pretty sweet. set up the atmosphere perfectly. Too bad menu music is underestimated so much; because a good menu will do that, set up the mood. Like Black Ops, Half Life 2.etc. even though they didn't have "music" and hence cannot be suggested for this thread.

Mass Effect

Beautiful and solemn. Sets the tone well. Perfectly complemented by those monotone blue images of the game's characters. Oddly enough, the song only really hit me when playing Mass Effect 2. When Shepard meets Wrex again the ME1 music plays as they greet one another. Came dangerously close to bringing a tear to my eye.

Halo: Combat Evolved

Look, say what you like about the Halo games, I don't care. Hell, I'm not a huge fan of them myself. But if you say that the original Halo theme is anything but awesome and epic in equal measure then I will have to ask you to step outside.

I used to turn Diablo II on just to hear the menu song play in the background while I did something else (including fall asleep a couple of times).

Preach it Brother. I even use that soundtrack for writing, just to keep me in the mood.
