I've always been told or heard that everyone eventualy grows out of metal. Im sure it will never happen to me but i still dont know why everyone says it. I go to a lot of concerts meet a lot of bands real metal heads *not you core pussies* and some of them are in there 60's and later still enjoying it. I've loved metal since i was 4 years old and continue to this day. Also my father was a metalhead who got into it way back in the aerosmith days and probaly will continue till the day he dies. So my discussion is this why do you think people say or grow out of metal once they are "older" or will you be like me and be a metalhead forever \m/

Edit 1. I would like to bring into this thread metal musicians talent. Im talking about real skills not ooo lets play this breakdown in g etc. I mean who can shread play the works. Also a random drum discussion. I beleive that gravity rolling is fucking cheating. I respect a man who can do 280 bpm *thats 4 hits* with single strokes than some guy who can sound fast and just let something else do all the god damn work. Side note triggers do nothing but add to your sound not speed etc

Edit 2. Why does being a metal head imply you automaticly smoke. Idk how many times in school people wanted to know if i smoked weed asked me for cigs etc. That was before i smoked *i enjoy cigars and pipe seeing as how im a refined man* This ever happen to anyone else

Because metal is what you go to when you 'rebel' in your teen years.[footnote]To clarify, this is not my opinion, but a possible answer to why people in society would believe metal is something you just outgrow. I personally love metal.[/footnote]

For me, I went from pop, to alternative, and so on until I found Symphonic Metal, which I'm sticking with into the foreseeable future. It's all just personal taste.

Yeah, I was just listing what a possible societal view would be. I personally love metal and know it can deal with wonderful material and have great lyrics. I stick with metal where the singer is clearly heard so I can get the message they're trying to convey.

My dad is 55 and he still listens to Metal from time to time. So you don't have to outgrow it.

I see. It does take a little 'training' to understand those lyrics, but it's definitly possible. I just prefer the Symphonic Metal I've grown accustomed to. It tends to convey a certain 'epic' kind of sound.

I tend to disagree. As Ive gotten older, I have craved increasingly louder and more aggressive music.

I think part of the driving force away from metal can be you can get to a point where what is "new" ends up being repetitive droning metal. Personally I have no taste for repetitive music, There are plenty of other styles for that.

However, other conditions do apply too. You know its really not all that metül to be touring around in a mini van with a mortgage, and a couple of babies in car seats in the back, so that sometimes tends to drive one away from metal and listening to something more contemporary.

While I appreciate your opinion, I disagree with it. I don't see metal as any form of rebellion (I'm 13), I actively enjoy metal for the blend of instruments and use of vocals.

I believe whether you grow out or stick with metal is based on your perspective on it. If you're looking at it from a purely rebelious standpoint, I agree that one may grow out of it, however - if you enjoy the music for what it is, you'll probably be more inclined to stick with it in future years.

I've never been the most hardcore metal fan out there but it has been my favourite genre since I discovered Rob Zombie a decade ago. It may not always be my favourite genre but I doubt I'll ever stop liking it.

Blah, it's damnably hard to convey certain messages through text alone... I was hoping that my stating that I like Symphonic Metal in the second half of my post would show that I'm a metal fan and that the top part of my post wasn't necessarily my opinion, but I suppose I was just expecting too much of the internet. I'll go edit that for future convenience...

Well, Metal requires a particular mood, and/or person. I used to like it a bit before deciding that almost all metal sounded the same (I know, thats a bit of an unfair generalisation, but i mean in tone.)

This will amuse me forever and ever though:

I've grown from different kinds of metal, but I very highyl doubt I will ever grow out of it. I have a short death metal phase, but that stuff got old quick. bands like AC/DC and Metallica will never get old (at least, their music... you know what I mean).

I don't see myself not listening to metal anytime soon.

You see I went from listening to rap, to listening to electronica, classical music, and metal.

Say what you like, but, those are some my favorite genres.

I've found I haven't grown out of Metal, just bands. So I'll maybe pop in an album from a band I used to obsess over when I was younger and think "Wow, was I retarded?". Korn is a good example of this. Used to love them, but now it sounds like so much stupid mush.

Fortunately I found Strapping Young lad, so I'm also growing into things as well.

Weird.............that happened to me too. Same band.

I had tried listening to Korn again, but, I just couldn't do it.

I got a couple of songs in and I ended up saying, "fuck this garbage. Where in the hell is my Behemoth cd?!"

I can be unforgiving sometimes.
