Having never liked Metal when I was younger, I can't really comment on the whole "you'll grow out of it" malarkey from firsthand experience. And it is malarkey, as that 'saying' carries with it an implicit condemnation of the medium itself - essentially, that you only ever liked it because you were a kid and kids are stupid, thus making the music stupid.

Which is a load of crap - there are terrible Metal bands that kids do in fact like because kids are stupid and like crap, but the same could be said for just about any other genre you might care to name; Metal isn't an inherently childish genre that only 'musically retarded' individuals keep liking into their adulthood, and anyone who tells you otherwise is either speaking from a position of musical ignorant and not experience (best case scenario) or just a jackass (most likely scenario).

Keep on rocking out unashamed.

If you're interested in something particular no reason to assume you'll eventually just "grow out of it," hell there are people on these forums who are in their 30's, 40's, and 50's just because they've been gaming since the 70's and 80's.

I've been to see bands like Megadeth and Iron Maiden in the past year, and there have been people in their 40's and 50's standing there in the pit right next to the 16-year-olds. I personally hate it when some punk looks at older people and wonders why they still play video games or go to metal shows. As if there's some magic age where suddenly responsibility dictates that you're no longer allowed to enjoy the same hobbies you did when you were 18.

It's hard to grow out of a genre as broad and inclusive as metal. It's not that music taste gets grown out of, but matures. I went from Linkin Park and Kiss (6th grade) to Alice Cooper & Alice in Chains (7th grade) to Slipknot and Gwar (8th) to the Berzerker and Psyopus (9th). Now, years later I listen to Mars Volta and Equilibrium.

With that said, I grew into melodic metal and folk metal while growing out of the "core" stuff. I used to find breakdowns amazingly badass, but now I see them as almost annoying. The more I craved musically theoretical stimulation, the more refined and select my tastes became.

Sorry to go on about myself like that, but I can't speak for anyone else. The bottom line from my experience is that you grow into other genres and subgenres once you know what aspects of metal interest you.

I doubt I'll grow out of it. I'm a classically trained musician, and outside of classical music, metal is actually the best thing for you to learn that way (it's the closest related genre to classical actually, structure wise and so on). So I don't see why people think it's so bad other than stereotypes that are never true.

as a teenager I must say that I truely hate metal music. I just cannot stand "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH DEATHY DEATHY KILL KILL DEATH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" complete with loud guitar and Drums. I mostly listen to Classic Rock, Whatever genre Reel Big Fish falls under, and Comedy like Johnathan Coulton and Wierd Al.

I've found I haven't grown out of Metal, just bands. So I'll maybe pop in an album from a band I used to obsess over when I was younger and think "Wow, was I retarded?". Korn is a good example of this. Used to love them, but now it sounds like so much stupid mush.

Fortunately I found Strapping Young lad, so I'm also growing into things as well.
Weird.............that happened to me too. Same band.

I had tried listening to Korn again, but, I just couldn't do it.

I got a couple of songs in and I ended up saying, "fuck this garbage. Where in the hell is my Behemoth cd?!"

I can be unforgiving sometimes.
Lol love ur quote where the hell is my behemoth cd xD. Yeah there is so much crap mainly you gotta go back in time for good metal not forward

This leads to another discussion most people think that "metal" is the core stuff which the metalheads know it isnt so give us an example so we know which your talking about

This is true ill go to classical not only for the music and playing but you have to know your fucking roots not be a simple minded fuck who thinks metal was suddnenly made one day

I grew out of it fast. I mostly listened to it betweens ages 10-14, and at that point I heard better things, such as jazz, ska, electronica, and some blues

I am really starting to grow out of the sounds of a guitar. Now it sounds really bad to me, and the only guitar I get is in the blues (only good use of a guitar in my opinion) and some ska.
Plenty of "good" metal bands use blues infulenced guitars its just gotta search for them

Well, when I was an early teen, it was new to me, so I was like "FUCK YEAH, METAL!"

Now, it's not so new and exciting for me, so I just think "Oh hey, some more music. Let me give it a listen, since it's not country or pop crap."

I hope later on I don't grow to hate it though. I like generally not being too picky.
Gotta keep searching for better and better stuff what i always do good to have so much to choose from

I've grown from different kinds of metal, but I very highyl doubt I will ever grow out of it. I have a short death metal phase, but that stuff got old quick. bands like AC/DC and Metallica will never get old (at least, their music... you know what I mean).
Short death metal phase.... you gay? Im joking. But its true the classics never die in metal. Cept metallica in 1991 when the goverment killed james and lars and replaced them with robots thats y u see kirk like wtf man on some kind of monster
